Konami forecasts 82 percent decline in net income

The company is hopeful for a climb into the black this time next year, forecasting net income to be around 16 billion yen ($177 million). Konami doesn't say what it expects to drive this rise in profits, but titles like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and PES 2010 will likely play a part in that. Next year also promises the appearance of a revitalized Castlevania, a portable Metal Gear Solid and -- maybe -- a Rising action star.

No MGS = less profits. And this is why we can't have nice things (i.e. Z.O.E 3).
Tiptup300 @ Nov 3rd 2009 11:01PM
No SoTN sequel, no income.
skyzbig @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:27PM
Konami have lost me this generation. PES has been stuck in its PS2 glory days, Silent Hill has been mediocre at best this generation, and MGS:Rising? No-one wants Raiden....a full blown MGS5 is what people want....even if Snake would be using a zimmer frame....

I agree with you to a point, but actually after the very disappointing PES2008 and only slightly redeeming PES2009, the gameplay in PES2010 is finally back to winning ways (although they seem to have lost the support of the reviewers!). Konami really needs a brand new triple-A IP to help it out in 2010, although I'm pretty sure a current gen release of Zone of the Enders would help considerably?

It just means they need to make more games that will be available on both the xbox and the ps3. Ps3 is way more powerful...However, it makes better sense to increase your audience so that you can make more money.
FNG @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:51PM
*both systems are very similar on power, and the main difference being the storage space on a single optical disk.
Fixed it for you...
NaeemTHM @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:30PM
You know what would make them a ton of money? Porting MGS4 to the X*gets shot*
Balloonfighter99 @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:35PM
Just use the Konami code for an extra $150 million.
Gaucho @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:46PM
Hey, I did my part to help out. I bought PES 2010. The sexy cover art didn't hurt in the purchase.
RedRaptor @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:55PM
A new IP or two couldn't hurt them...
Or, god forbid, a Snatcher/Policenauts remake.
SharinganEdward @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:55PM
How about a decent Yu-Gi-Oh game(the friggin card game not a crappy spinoff) for the xbox 360?
james @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:04PM
seriously?
John @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:05PM
If they need money they could always port or remix(which ever one) MGS4 to 360.
Lurkero @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:12PM
Maybe Konami should stop leaning on so few franchises
HotLimit @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:37PM
Konami has tons of franchises, if anything they're spread too thin.
golobulus @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:35PM
that's because konami isn't doing shit this generation. i can't ever look at silent hill the same...and if it wasn't for kojima productions...well, what else would we have to look forward to? i mean, castlevania looks ok...but i never trust a trailer...and that's only 1 game. if you need to take the capcom route, have no shame and go for it. do something...you don't wanna become the next atari.
Lurkero @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:53PM
Castlevania, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer
I don't think DDR and Yugioh generate enough money and anything thing else is minor
Mr Khan @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:57PM
It has been a poor year for them, but i thought the next PES was slated to do quite well?
gamerdad @ Nov 4th 2009 2:38AM
Maybe they should finally port MGS4 to the 360 and reduce their staunch support for the lowest userbase console. Honestly, it's Konami's damn fault for releasing too many big budget games on a system that's in last place and ignoring the leading consoles this generation. Maybe if they start bleeding red they would finally get smart and give their full support in making games for 360 and Wii. It's a tough lesson and hopefully Konami will learn from their mistakes!!!
sam @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:15PM
I hope Silent Hill Shattered Memories will be a big success (also hoping here that it's as good as it sounds from the initial previews etc) but it's a mature Wii game, so I don't think they should be banking on it just yet.
Oh, yes, and they're kindly providing a pirate version too - er, I mean, a PSP version. *That*'ll help.
PES, though? Safer bet.
jbentertainment00 @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:25PM
Thats what the dummies get for going ps3 exclusive in 2009
Like it or not MS has more consoles out there, and you cannot afford exclusivity in these days and times when you are the underdog
rells009 @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:55PM
Yea but no. The real issue is that Konami continuously relies on the same franchises repeatedly without strong creative forces behind them with the exception of Kojima Productions. They have many many many franchises that they could be leaning back on.
six @ Nov 3rd 2009 6:53PM
needs more gradius, then more profit
Dance Mofo @ Nov 3rd 2009 6:53PM
well port Contra 4 to PSN/XBLA and/or make another sequel
Simstim @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:32PM
Suikoden or Zone of the Enders, and a MGS4 trophy patch would boost sales.
darknite39 @ Nov 3rd 2009 10:33PM
Maybe they should get the rights back for TMNT games and make up for that TMNT SMASH-UP abomination.
fohf @ Nov 4th 2009 1:01PM
They need to stop making console exclusives. There is no reason for them to not whore their games out to every console (assuming the it can work on it). This is especially true for any downloadable games and remakes.
