One poster at Hachimaki didn't keep us waiting at all for a custom 3D Dot Game Heroes version of Metal Gear Solid 4's Old Snake. The game isn't even officially released in Japan yet! But this artist got hold of a pre-street-dated copy and set immediately to work on an Old Snake avatar in the game's character editor.
Snake will have No Place to Hide in the wide-open, blocky expanses of 3D Dot Game Heroes' kingdom, but he'll presumably be able to compensate with a combination of Close Quarters Combat and Long Distance Swords. Update: See a video after the break.
this game looks so good I love the endless possibility's for retro characters anyone know if there's a level editor cause that would make this my most wanted game of 2010
How does the character creator mode understand what is an arm and what is a leg for animation purposes? I mean, the Link has a shield attached to him.. does that count as a "limb" or is it stagnant?
The entire character shuffles without any individual limb movement. Kinda like if you were playing with a toy. There's a video of it at the end of the embedded vid (it's called "Link gameplay")
There are multiple "frames" for animation. the guy that made Link just didnt bother to use more than one frame for his walking animation, the character does naturally shift back and forth as it moves but it's also supposed to cycle. There's also poses for weapon use so you can draw it to beholding out the sword. I assume the character will get a shield (since it's clearly heavily Zelda inspired just listen to the music or the way it handles the map) so the one drawn in is just a place holder and not defensive at all but a real shield will probably go there.
