Modern Warfare 2 is GameStop's most pre-ordered game ever

Some may have been up in arms about arguably disturbing material and unarguably juvenile advertising in and for Modern Warfare 2, but it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of stifling anticipation for the game. In fact, GameStop told Game Hunters that Infinity Ward's baby is the most pre-ordered title in the company's history. Like ... ever. GameStop VP Tony Bartel told the site, "As of today, the number of pre-order reservations we've taken for the game is the highest for any title we've ever sold in our 6,200 store network."

So feel free to grouse all you want, but unless Activision replaces the FPS gameplay with first-person putting puppies into a wood chipper and renames it Osama bin Laden Pushes Jesus Christ Down a Flight of Stairs Made of Baby Skulls, we're not sure there's any amount of controversy that's going to slow Modern Warfare 2 down.

Hilarious alterno-title.

I preordered last night from Amazon, $20 buck credit comes with it, what did gamestop offer?

they'll let you rent the game for $20 if you preorder online.

I can't believe people still shop at GameStop's. They never, ever, have a good deal on games and there trade-in value is the worst. But they are convenient I guess for most but Amazon has won my business as well.

I preorder from gamestop because they are the closest video game store to my place, and most of the time they have new releases before my local Best Buy or Future Shop (doesn't happen too often, normally everything is out the same day, but some times BB or FS get stuff a day or two later).

Also the prices for standard, deal-less games are the same in all those stores here, so unless another place has a better deal (like Borderlands for $40) I got to gamestop.

I will admit that their trade-in stuff is shit though.

Wait are you telling me people did gamestop for the "we'll let you give it back to us in a month for $40, resell it for $55 knowing the multiplayer and devs will keep it alive for years to come"? That's moronic!

I plan on selling it after a month. sure the devs will keep it alive but damn I get bored of any game after a month. I'm already bored of uncharted 2. there are just too many games to stick to just one.

if you don't get this game...fail.

Can you really say that MW2 is over-hyped before it even comes out? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

Yeah, I've been playing the leaked copy on 360 for a few days and I can assure you this game is NOT over-hyped! It is amazing and I'm still keeping my pre-order for the PS3 verson so I can play Spec-Ops online with some friends.

Whether they are money grabbers or not, there is no denying that Infinity Ward are amazing developers.

Yes the game may be over hyped - but is still in my opinion one of the top ranking multilayer shooters of all time.

Oh cmon, the multiplayer is shit. The only reason people like it is because it tricks you in to thinking your good. It's ridiculously easy to get kills and because the shit people get 5 or 6 kills they think they're good despite having been killed 10 times.

Team Fortress 2 is a better multi-player game. Yeah I said it.

Team Fortress 2 is by far a better multiplayer game than Modern Warfare or World at war.

the game is over-hype because is fucking good. trust me when u get it u will see why, the to let u know. they are 2 types of air strike, stealth and one that u actually control. bang!!!!!!!.

Not shocking at all.Gamers can complain all they want and IW can continue taking features out till their face turns blue but it still won't stop it from outselling GTAIV and any other game this gen.

Are you kidding? The game is published by Activision, Robert Bowling is an arrogant prick, they are turning off party chat, they are dropping dedicated servers, I am not touching this game.

At least until all the reviews are coming in.

GTAIV isn't the highest selling game by a long-shot, hell, it's not even the highest selling game that came out the week that it did. That title belongs to Mario Kart Wii. Two other such titles are going to out-do this, in all likelihood: Wii Sports Resort and NSMBWii will, in the long run, flatten Modern Warfare 2, though all three will pass the 10 million mark with ease

I'm not getting MW2.

But from working at GameStop....

360 pre-orders are over 200, PS3 pre-orders are under 100.

Honestly, I think that could sell pretty good. Not that I would buy it.

In semi-related news, I had a dream that me and some naked chick were running from terrorists.

If all the other publishers hadn't delayed their big games in fear of MW2, maybe this would be more impressive. I for one cancelled my preorder from gamestop due to their PC version antics abd bought Borderlands instead.

This kind of news makes me feel a bit bad for PC gamers. Even after all that, they still can't get what they want using boycotting since, well, this game makes Infinity Ward money regardless. It's a beast.

Oh well. I'm still on the plate deciding whether or not I want to buy this (I'm a PC guy) and what system to get it for if I do buy it.

I wasn't aware of the two controversies mentioned. I pre-ordered this game from Amazon because MW was so damn good. All this noise surrounding the game is lame PR and whiny internet bullshit, the only thing that matters is that the game is solid. And IW has the track record to back that up.

He was probably referring to the general MW2 controversy, not the specific PC issue. He never said which platform he preordered it on.

Yep, I agree. I will buy games if they are GOOD. I don't care if they are popular, I don't care if they are hated by one platform or another. I play games that are good, and are well made.

People think just because they are not buying a copy means they are going to make the game fail. Sorry to disappoint you but people really don't care what you have to think, if the game is solid, and a good experience, then they will get it. Period.

This game is beyond over hyped but i'll still pick it up. I will also go to the midnight launch so i can laugh at all the people who wasted their money on the over priced fisher-price my first night vision goggle set.

Puppies into a wood chipper would be a great game just don't tell Activision because they'll make the game and come out will twelve sequals in one year.

Controversy never slows a game down.

I hear manhunt 2 sold twice as many copies just cuz it was rated AO at first. Thats right folks, Manhunt 2 actually sold close to a dozen copies.

I wish New Super Mario Bros. Wii released the same day as MW2 or a few days before just so I could show up at one of MW2's midnight launches and be the only person there to buy something that's not MW2.

For the record I don't really care about the game and the First-Person Shooter genre in general has gotten incredibly stale to me.

Pretty obvious that this game is going to sell a ton. It sucks because no matter what IW do their game will sell very well. I mean, why bother giving a damn about some customers when you're still going to sell millions of copies?

Ah well, I was already on the fence before all the contreversy started, and I do think that all the petitions are pretty useless as well. Still you can defentivly count me down for not buying the game, especially when Dragons Age, Borderlands, Left4Dead2 and others are on my list to play.

I guess everyone can't find anything better to play than what Activision force feed us every year.

I will be playing MW2 so that means i wont be playing Assasins creed 2 or borderlands? or forza 3 ..... oh wait i will and i allready am its just another game and just because its widely popular doesnt mean your cool if you say somthing like that *face palm*
