Splinter Cell: Conviction collector's edition seeks revenge on your wallet

click to revenge-size
In Splinter Cell: Conviction, superspy Sam Fisher is seeking revenge for his daughter's murder. In the Splinter Cell: Conviction collector's edition, you'll find a varying degree of bonus items -- some cool, some silly -- that Ubisoft is seeking $79.99 for.Due to arrive on the same day as the standard edition (February 23, 2010) the set will include a comic book prequel to the events in the game; an art book with illustrations from all the previous Splinter Cell titles; a DLC weapon and player skin; a credit-card-sized USB drive filled with art and a making-of featurette; and two stickers: one of the Third Echelon logo and another that looks like those fake bullet holes people slap on their cars to make it appear that they live in a warzone.
Ubisoft's sell-sheet for the CE thankfully displays the game disc and manual, lest you worry they're not included. They go inside the DVD steelcase, which we'd say might be good for deflecting bullets, but appears to already have been used for just that purpose.

wait what?

Steelbooks are the best thing about most collector's editions these days.
I think Bioshock is the last CE I remember that had a really good quality pack-in.
Sly @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:26PM
didn't a lot of bioshock CEs have broken big daddy figures inside?
pacokorn77 @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:24PM
The only bad part about SteelBooks is when that's the only thing they do for a CE.
Look at Quantum of Solace.
Cj @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:53PM
Im still shocked we haven't been shown anything on the multiplayer portion. After the disappointing DA multiplayer you think they would try and 1UP Chaos Theory's.
Anthony M. @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:56PM
Chaos Theory was a lot of fun. I loved the movie theater level. :)
Cj @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:14PM
Vaporware? Seriously? This thing is almost done. Hell, its probably being printed next month or something.
Cj @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:15PM
God damn reply system.

I miss the co-op from Chaos Theory the most. Sigh...don't know if I want this title or not...
Meh @ Nov 4th 2009 11:18AM
"Hell, its probably being printed next month or something." You mean the money?
kyle @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:56PM
I wont pre-order this. Not because I don't want it, but because its subject to at least one more gigantic delay and then it'll probably become vaporware.

From the gameplay we've seen, it looks like its set release date (February 23) is becoming more of a reality.
bluetev @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:56PM
The collector's edition seems pretty decent, rather than some useless piece of junk added on to justify the extra cost, the comic book and especially yhe art book sounds like what someone who is a fan of the series would love to have
Mark @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:59PM
It looks like that case doesn't actually work all that well for deflecting bullets.
PSN: John-Paul-Jones (click for last.fm profile!) @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:00PM
Really cool collector's edition, but since Conviction is also coming out for the PC, is there a collector's edition for the PC?
RKN @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:03PM
Given with many other multiplatform games such as Modern Warfare 2, Arkham Asylum, Rainbow Six Vegas, GTA4, Mass Effect, etc, where the PC doesn't get the CE, I'll be surprised if the PC version here gets it. The PC seems to be missing out on them constantly, is it the piracy rates so they say, fuck it, just give them the SE and they'll just pirate that anyways?
RKN @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:03PM
By SE I meant standard edition, not special edition.
Shagittarius @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:24PM
But I would think piracy would be a reason to pack add-ins and sell a special edition , including some extra stuff that didn't cost you much but offers a more compelling reason to own a legit copy.
RKN @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:28PM
Your right Shaggitarius. But PC gamers wouldn't be happy if they only offered the game in a $100+ special edition. But they should give us special editions and regular editions with even a tiny extra to encourage pirates to purchase the game.
How can you tell pirates that they are killing the PC platform? What, if they kill the PC platform, they'll just move onto the consoles and pirate from them?
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:01PM
Cant believe this doesnt come with Night Vision Goggles
Enosoma @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:08PM
I'm disappointed it doesn't come with a fake gray beard to wear while you play.
"This time, you ARE Sam Fisher..."
CheeziePotato @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:11PM
If the Conviction CE came with the Splinter Cell night vision goggles, I'd actually spend $150 for it.
james @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:12PM
ya really, goggles make way more sense for this than MW2
arkweld @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:27PM
I Conviction CE actually came with night vision goggles it would have an advantage over Modern Warfare CE.
Because that cheap plastic toy headset doesn't count.
RKN @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:01PM
Once again with a multiplatform title, the PC version doesn't get the CE eh?
Do PC gamers just not purchase CE versions of games whereas console gamers purchase them in droves?
CheeziePotato @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:08PM
Hey, you guy have Steam.
RKN @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:10PM
That could be it, more PC gamers are purchasing their games digitally and probably just don't care about special editions with extra physical goodies inside them.
I just wonder why for most multi-platform games, the PC doesn't get the collectors editions at all? Some rare exceptions I know of are Call of Duty: World At War, Fallout 3, Oblivion, etc.
sonicspike41 @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:32PM
Well even steam and digital distribution shouldn't stop a company. They could offer such a "package" on steam, where if you pony up the extra cash they mail you the goodies.
I imagine it could be $70 +tax, so $75-78 total. They'd probably lose some money on shipping, but with tax and shipping it would cost a lot more than it would for the console version, which isn't very attractive either.
Of course that's assuming they care enough to absorb the cost of shipping so that the customer gets a slightly better deal which more closely matches the pricing of the X360 version.

Why was this man Down voted?
RedRaptor @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:01PM
Gonna need a demo first, Ubisoft, especially after I threw down the money for Double Agent LE and ended up seriously regretting it.
Once bitten, twice shy and all that.

RedRaptor... reminds me of a book I once read, called Raptor Red. Look it up.

chris.rackley @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:22PM
I usually hate it when fanboys let out mindlessly negative banter; but I can't help myself here:
What a sucky, SUCKY CE. How in the world are other regions in the world getting a Sam Fisher figurine, and the US gets art books (that nobody looks at more than once) and stickers. Mother fricker!
It is nice to finally get SOME mention of the multiplayer beyond "it'll have it."
NOOK @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:22PM
What? Compared to recent CEs, like the FM3 one, this is awesome.
chris.rackley @ Nov 3rd 2009 6:16PM
I'll take issue with that:
The FM3 CE, I would contend, is far better.
* USB Drive (similar to Conviction's)
* 10 extra cars (far more extra gameplay content)
* VIP Status (there have been questions about what this is . . . but among other things, that gift VIP's cars from time to time. They're sending out the first two VIP cars later this week.)
* Collector's Keychain (which is actually really good quality)
Between the two - I'd say Forza 3's is better. The extra cars it offers are quite awesome - not throwaways (they're not "skins").
Artbooks and comic books, to me personally, are throwaways.
I guess I'm just jizzed that we're missing out on the Sam figurine that other regions are getting - similar to the figurine that Assassin's Creed 2 CE is getting.
Vii @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:32PM
If I had a 360 I would totally buy this game. Having said that, this collector's edition looks a little lackluster for a triple-A title.
ChomskyKnows @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:43PM
Chaos Theory LE Tin was rare and awesome...it had the soundtrack....
RedRaptor @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:53PM
Pretty sure it didn't have the soundtrack, at least not the one I got. I had to buy the soundtrack separately.
Totally worth it though.

Deja vu anyone?

Finally! A CE that is worth the money and not priced too high! I also want some deets on the Multiplayer come on UBI you sitting on a game that could be top 3 on XBL.
