@Ballistic H - Civil War made me a Captain America fan, and also caused me to harbor an intense hatred of Iron Man.
I refuse to ever see an Iron Man film.
and I probably won't see the Avengers film, because I'll be in the back of the cinema screaming "Don't trust him, Cap! He's gonna try to kill you later!"

Much like Superman, it's hard to make a game about an indestructible man-god. I love Thor (especially Ultimate Thor) but a Cap game would be infinitely more interesting.

They could totally make a WWII/Crimefighter hybrid game!

But wasn't Ultimate Thor killed by Magneto who then continued his day by killing billions of people? Thats doesnt seem very god like to me.

actually a Thor game should be pretty easy to make. Instead of having Thor battle it out with street thugs and petty super villains like Spider-Mans electro or some weakling, set the game in Asgard, where everything is as crazy god like as Thor. Even for Thor it's not a simple thing to take down a family of frost giants. And really, given that the Thor movie is scheduled to take place only in Asgard, except maybe for an after the credits scene, this scenario is pretty likely.

@Rhamsey

DUDE! Spoilaaarzzz!

@Batman

Yeah you're right an Asgard game would be awesome! And a nice change of setting. I'm getting a weeee bit tired of wandering semi populated urban areas with the same five crimes happening over and over.

well, if it's anything like Segas last game efforts, despite theirs and marvels claims of only making good games, we'll probably still be flying around the same neighborhood with 5 crimes, only they'll be perpetuated by frost giants and dark elves rather than street gangs and super villains

With a Cap game, you could span different eras and have him fighting in the war and then being thawed out in present time to fight a new battle. His costume would be updated and everything. That could actually be pretty cool. His powers are not even close to Thor's - that's a good thing for a video game. It would make it easier to create enemies for him to fight and it would be a lot easier to swallow Captain America getting beaten down by a bunch of baddies than it would with Thor. It's the same issue they have with Superman that would apply to Thor - he's just too damn strong.

A Thor game could work, but it would have to stay in the realm of the gods. Make it some epic space game or something. I don't think it would look that cool if he was on Earth, present day, flying around with his giant hammer (that doesn't sound right) and yelling "by the beard of Zeus!" as he uppercuts a punk ass with pantyhose on his head.

actually what you described in the second half of your post is basically the Incredible Hercules comic, and it's fucking awesome. But yeah, the movie is going to take place exclusively in Asgard, so the game will almost definitely follow it there.

I'm looking forward to the movie. It will be a lot different than all the other comic book films. That's probably why I'm really pumped for Green Lantern, too.

Plus, respect to the cast! Thor definitely gets some serious cred for getting the talent it has signed on. I love me some Portman.

also, people involved with the captain america film have called it a "period piece" and that it will be similar to raiders of the lost ark, so I imagine that will take place primarily in WW2 as well. The dates they give for the games of course correspond with the films releases, but I really wish they could just do a Web of Shadows esque game where it's based on the comics and has it's own unique story. That way we might even be able to go from WW2 cap to modern cap, to Bucky Cap

Agreed, I get why they want to release the game to coincide with the film, but that shouldn't mean that they have to follow the same story as the film. Then it was the cursed, comic-book-movie-video-game, tag.

Man, I'd really enjoy a Thor game. Last year during the Secret Invasion event, there was one part in I think in the 3rd issue, where huge amounts of skrulls and their important facility's just started being decimated, preceded always by an entire panel of thunderbolts, and at the end of the issue, the Skrull Queen basically said "OH SHI-". I dont think id ever read anything more exciting in comics, and I can only imagine how awesome it would be to be Thor while doing that

If Sega tries to model the game after Viking: Battle for Asgard while fixing all the issues that game had, I think they could totally make a Thor game work. I enjoyed Viking, even though it got repetitive and had many issues.

I'm not sure. Thor could be awesome, fighting gods in Asgard, but Captain America has potential too. I guess Thor has a better chance of being a great game. I'm kind of worried that Captain America could end up as another WWII game with a shield.

But I'm really worried about the Green Lantern game, that has the potential to be a fantastic game or a massive failure. I really hope it's the former but it'll probably fail.

I would love to see a Call of Duty mixed with Crackdown style Captain America game set in World War II. You have moments where Cap is part of crowd just fighting alongside normal G.I.s but you then have him jump 10ft to scale a building and drop in on the bad guys from behind. There are a lot of things you could do with that setting.

I think an obvious God of War style Thor game set in Asgard could easily work if some one was willing to put money behind it.

I think a God of War rip off would have been a bad idea. They tried that with ghost Rider and it was pretty boring and generic. I think something akin to Brutal Legend would be best for Thor. Not the RTS' elements of course, but the wide open explorable fantasy world with hack and slash elements, hopefully deeper than brutal legends limited combos though

I just hope that they find good writers and learn from the success of "Batman: Arkham Asylum" (which I have in my gaming queue). As long as the controls are tight for Captain America (he's mostly hand to hand and shield stunts) and the story is compelling, I'm in. Thor never was a favorite of mine, but if done like God of War stuff then it could be interesting.

I prefer thor, i think the argument is that he is too powerful, but there is no real reason to give him that much power right at the beginning of the game, I start to think of more epicness to thor then cap, especially side by side with games like GOW
