Video: Censored Left 4 Dead 2 right 4 classification
Footage allegedly taken from Australia's censored version of Left 4 Dead 2 has made its way online ... and we feel it's inadequately preparing citizens down under for the future! Though the game will get Aussies used to facing down a charging zombie horde, it does nothing to desensitize them to the revolting gore that inevitably follows.
The censored version lacks exploding heads, dismemberment (courtesy of the new melee weapons) and burning corpses. Sadly, for those of us who have built up a considerable hatred for the undead scourge threatening our civilization, the fallen undead just fade into the ether. Check out the full video after the break and pray for Australia's survival when the zombie apocalypse comes.

I dont want to play a zombie game where i cant cut off three zombie heads in one swipe of an electric guitar
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:29PM
I want to see them switch it up so that the chainsaw is actually just a turbo-charged tickler...seeing the infected dying from laughter would make me lol just a bit.

Ouch... I think the thing I like the most about L4D2 is the fact that the dismemberment and intestine loss is so graphic. This is... blah. Sorry guys.
snowleopard233 @ Nov 3rd 2009 4:26PM
This does seem bland but it could have been a lot worse. I envisioned something like penny arcade's parody of Gears with the profanity filter on.

That's not so bad.
I mean, it's still the same game. You just don't get some of the extra junk.
(That wasn't a pun towards L4D2 / L4D)
Kulahan @ Nov 3rd 2009 11:25PM
Dees game ees now dildoes.
Nicodemus @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:31PM
Any one else notice that there are still zombie bodys all over the place? So the only ones that cant stay on the ground are the ones the player(s) kill.... intresting
Kyle @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:02PM
I was just about to say that. Weird.
just a guy @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:32PM
There's no way those guys are going to survive.
michas_pi @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:34PM
What is this garbage? This is not Left 4 Dead 2. No blood splatter on the frying pan? No riot zombies? Really?
I feel bad for gamers in Australia.
Kyle @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:03PM
They're not allowed riot zombies? Why the eff not?
MonkeyHood @ Nov 4th 2009 10:17AM
They're not allowed to be in the game because it represents violence against authority figures.
Marco le Polo @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:35PM
Well that's kinda lame. Australia will be the first continent to fall when the Zombie Apocalypse begins. I blame censorship. They'll shoot them and expect them to disappear and when that doesn't happen they're going to realize that they've been tricked. Sry 'mates.
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:38PM
And to think, all of this loss of life could've been avoided...
david @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:13PM
Actually, you're right, it WILL be the first to fall. Just look at the history of Australia's gun laws.....
ThePengwin @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:37PM
I for one will still be prepared. I have played House of the Dead: Overkill, which they didn't ban here.
However im going to be using catch phrases with copious F-bombs and MF-ers as per the way HOTD has taught me to slay the undead hordes.
Nikonov @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:41PM
Am I the only one that thinks the frying pan makes the most irritating sound effect possible?
Vcize @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:14PM
If by irritating you mean irritating then yes, you're the only one.
If by irritating you mean awesome then no, you're not alone.
CheeziePotato @ Nov 3rd 2009 5:23PM
You are not alone, for I am here with you
Though you're far away, I am here to stay
But you are not alone, for I am here with you
Though we're far apart, you're always in my heart
But you are not alone
ChuckBartowski @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:41PM
Poor australia, theyre going to be terrified when they kill a real zombie, and realize that they have blood.
jsut @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:45PM
Maybe Australian zombies don't have blood, and the Aussie government _knows_.
*tinfoil hat*
Shagittarius @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:59PM
Who's to say zombie blood isn't coagulated to begin with?
Really I think they are a bunch of confused pussies though...
kyle @ Nov 3rd 2009 3:03PM
The Australian government must have some kick ass Intel that shows their zombies don't have blood. Also they don't hunger for brains, just candy and other sweet things. They really just wanna be your friend.
Giroro @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:42PM
Your guns shoot balls of pure joy and every time you kill a zombie it disappears into a puff of rainbows, sunshine, and fluffy kittens.
michas_pi @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:49PM
Just like party mode in Team Fortress 2.

lol, kinda like Grunt Birthday Party. love it.
warrenEBB @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:50PM
they should replace the riot gear zombies with australian politicians (shooting them in their thick heads could have no effect, so you'd have to get them when their backs are turned)
Alternately, they could just add Aussie Politicians, who show up randomly like witches. perhaps with their heads stuck in the ground. And if you don't sneak past them, they just end the game.

Matt C @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:46PM
Saying that, I actually never saw any Witches in that play through. Every time I play there are always Witches.. have they been censored as well?
profeteer @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:50PM
This from the country that brought us Mad Max? Color me confused.
AUS_JD @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:44PM
Because of a non binding agreement between the state attorney generals, just 1 man does this. Just 1 Man.
Everyone else, 5 out of 6 state attorney generals want R18+, but it's not a big enough political issues for them to tell Michael Atkinson, the Attorney General from South Australia, to get fucked.
I wish they would.
Adam M ONeill @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:37PM
What the hell are you talking about? Non-binding agreements? If you really are an Aussie you should know that the problem is that the constitution (you remember that right?) can't be changed without the unanimous (you know, all of 'em) consent of both the Commonwealth AG and the State AGs.
Non-binding agreement?
uncle jesse @ Nov 3rd 2009 1:55PM
L4D without the gore is like a PG rated Die Hard movie... oh yeah, they did do that.
And it sucked.
yenrab @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:05PM
Just wait till this idea sails across the sea...
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:07PM
Australia has about 90% of the world's most poisonous animals, so if anything, they should be getting a more violent version to satisfy the indwelt lust for death that continent has.
Vcize @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:12PM
Foster's. Australian for pussy.
AUS_JD @ Nov 3rd 2009 7:46PM
Pro tip.
No one in Australia drinks Fosters. Seriously.
It's mainly for export, cause no one buys it here.
Crayfish @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:15PM
I feel sorry for the aussies but I kinda wish these games would just refuse to release a censored version, instead of pandering to their crappy ratings board.
Like sure, the commission gets some heat now, but imagine if all these AAA titles were blocked. Not only would the gaming outrage be a lot more significant (which they may not even care about), but the gaming stores would also start kicking up as fuss over all their lost profits, putting more pressure on them to develop a higher rating classification.
... Or I suppose they could just be dicks and continue to not do anything
AUS_JD @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:07PM
Unfortunately none of the groups you mention have any political clout, neither gamers nor any business in the Games industry.
However I agree they shouldn't make a censored version.
Most Australians will simply order from overseas, Illegally, and hardly anyone will get caught bringing in non-classified material. The local retail industry will die, neither the Publishing companies who rip off Aussie consumers, nor the Government will care.
End result of this censorship = Aussie consumer trained to look overseas for all future purchases, kills local industry, does nothing to stop people getting access to non classified material.
Adam M ONeill @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:41PM
It's not actually illegal unless you're bringing in more than one copy. That doesn't mean that a couple of self-righteous customs officers won't confiscate peoples copies.
Shadow Hog @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:30PM
While we're on the topic of L4D2, how about that there Bill's Hat for TF2, eh? The only thing missing is voiceclips of all the classes screaming out "PIIIIILLS HERE".
Also probably the only time I've ever seen where pre-ordering a game gets you a bonus in a completely different game.
Timerider @ Nov 3rd 2009 9:20PM
I've already been in a game where instead of someone micspaming "Pills here" they were micspaming Ellis's "WUBUBUBUBUB".
Shadowfax (PSN: u2fan4894) @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:41PM
I know gameplay is more important than graphics, but jeez, that looks like a multiplat game.
qliphah @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:45PM
On the plus side with all the corpses gone the game will run much smoother.
On the other hand, hows that nanny state working out?
Enosoma @ Nov 3rd 2009 2:52PM
So... zombie movies are banned in Australia, right?
AUS_JD @ Nov 3rd 2009 8:11PM
Nope. They can be R18+.
Adults can watch someone else eviscerate Zombies in full, totally realistic graphic detail, but we can not take part in a much less realistic simulated experience.
Insane much?
