Grand Forks, North Dakota is a small city with a population just over 51,000 -- a large portion of which are students at the University of North Dakota -- that's tucked within a much larger rural portion of the state. It's not the first city to come to mind when you think of prestigious national honors in the technology sector. However, according to online retailer Amazon, which has been vigilantly tracking the geographic location of Modern Warfare 2 pre-orderers, it's currently the Call of Duty-est town in America.
Amazon will continue to rank American cities based on per capita Modern Warfare 2 pre-orders until the game is released, and has agreed to ship a $5,000 gift card to a charity of its choosing which serves the winning town. We hope Grand Forks manages to hold its top position in the rankings, if only because it desperately needs something to put on its city limits signs. You know, something more inspiring than "Welcome to Grand Forks: We've Got a Pretty Good College, Here, We Guess."

When everybody comes back to the UND dorms at 3 in the morning from drinking, someone always yells "SYSTEM LINK!" Most of the time it's halo, but it's always a good time.

hey Griffin McElroy, what do you have against UND and Grand Forks? They already have something to hang their hat on, they won the NCAA D1 National Hockey tournament like 5 times, and UND is ranked #18 in the top 20 party schools in the U.S. in 2009. Go crawl back under that bridge you came from.

Yep, considering there are a lot of angry people, it is a smart business decision. Just like how DICE is handling the situation as well. They are using this situation to appeal to emotions of PC players. They are playing a tune and everyone is following, including me.

Unlike the rest of you ass hats, I actually find this article fairly interesting. You would think that the big cities with millions of people in them like New York and Los Angelos would dominate this list, but instead you find a bunch of littler towns that all have major universities in them. Really says a lot about where the most hardcore gamers are... not high-schoolers, not people in their late 20's or 30's (who seem to make up the majority of the people reading this website), but instead people in college. The ones with the most important stuff to do and the ones with (probably) the least amount of money to spend. Its really actually kind of interesting when you think about it.
Also, nice to see so many Illinois towns on the list. I'm only about an hour from DeKalb and an hour and a half from Rockford.
