Wal-Mart offering $100 gift card with purchase of Xbox 360 Arcade
Black Friday isn't the only day in November where prices are eviscerated and sweet deals are distributed like confetti at a Flaming Lips concert. Wal-Mart has begun posting ads for a batch of sales being offered this coming Saturday morning -- one of which will be particularly intriguing to the prospective holiday console buyers among you. While supplies last (and we assume they won't last long), anyone who purchases a $199 Xbox 360 Arcade bundle will receive a $100 gift card to boot.
A free Benjamin's worth of Wal-Mart products? That's enough to buy a couple of games for your new system! And it's only $35 short of the price of an Xbox 360 120GB hard drive! Or, you could buy two Xbox 360 Arcade bundles, and then have enough in gift card money to get a third one -- plus another $100 gift card -- for free! It seems we've beaten the system, as it were. Wal-Mart, consider yourself outfoxed.

Forget the 360 and its gift card.
A 42" LCD for $498!!?! Wowzers!!
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 1:24PM
There's also a Blueray player at 148.
So you could get a new Xbox for 199$ and use the gif card to get a Blueray player for 48 bucks, and it's not a lame ass blueray player either is a Sony one.
eNrique @ Nov 4th 2009 1:29PM
Or you could get 299 and get a better value console, that also is a Blu Ray player, with free online, a 120Gb HDD and built in Wi-Fi.
:)
Orion @ Nov 4th 2009 1:30PM
+1 for the obvious
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 1:31PM
But what if I want the console with the better online experience, better controller, better warranty, better multiconsole games and the sexy factor?
Autopsy15 @ Nov 4th 2009 1:50PM
Remember guys, opinions are just like assholes.
eNrique @ Nov 4th 2009 1:56PM
Then, get the PlayStation 3 winterfang.
;)
GiggMan @ Nov 4th 2009 2:04PM
Why not use the $100 dollar gift card towards a PS3 then....
Leish @ Nov 4th 2009 2:07PM
That same tv has always been that price at Walmart. That's not really a sale, so don't feel the need to rush into it this Saturday.
Leish @ Nov 4th 2009 2:11PM
Never mind, I was thinking of something else. Is there no delete button?
Temidien @ Nov 4th 2009 2:12PM
My girlfriend will be getting the 360 I pick up Saturday and the PS3 for Xmas as the $100 gift card just made getting both much more possible.
Totally going for Best Boyfriend of the Year achievement by throwing in extra controllers, Brutal Legend on 360, and Little Big Planet for maximum gamer couple time.
Those extra shifts I'm working are totally worth it :)
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 4th 2009 2:15PM
Why not apply the $100 towards a PS3 so you can stop the needless fanboying?
Shagittarius @ Nov 4th 2009 2:53PM
Second fiddle is better than the retard that plays the triangle. COUGH*Wii*COUGH
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 3:07PM
You might see the wii on third but that's because he is so ahead of the race that it's about to pass you for a second time.
Ballistic H @ Nov 4th 2009 3:11PM
@ The Pie Pieper: "If WINterfang followed your advice, he would have nothing to play."
I'd say those who have RROD.
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 4th 2009 3:14PM
WINTerfang was downvoted for saying the 360 > PS3.
eNrique was downvoted for saying the PS3 > 360.
I was downvoted because I encouraged people to buy both a 360 and a PS3 and not fanboy.
I'm confused.
deaftly (PSN,LIVE,STEAM) @ Nov 4th 2009 3:15PM
Cody, no point in getting that HDTV with a Wii mah man.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 4th 2009 4:21PM
@Winterfang
"But what if I want the console with the better online experience, better controller, better warranty, better multiconsole games and the sexy factor?"
Why the fuck is everyone STILL arguing about which console is better? Haven't you guys gotten it out of your system yet? It's only been what ... 2-3 years now?
I'll take the bait since thats obviously what you want. All you ever do is come online and talk shit anymore inbetween instances of stuttering broken english and complimenting your tiger tat.
"better online experience" what experience is that? The one that charges you to use any of it's features?
"better controller" I have this weird condition where both my hands are symetrical. Call me crazy but it feels pretty normal to hold a controller in the natural position of my hands. I know I'm some kind of fanboy aren't I?
"better warranty" The warranty that you need because of hardware failure rates? The warranty that doesn't cover all known material defects caused by overheating? The one thats about to expire for launch units?
"better multiconsole games" Multi-console implies they are on both. If it's not multiconsole it's an exclusive. That is unless you are talking about being able to pay for expansions and exclusive DLC on GTA. If you are talking about the disparity in quality then your grasping for straws. Do you think antialiasing on a vine that you have to blow up a still image to full resolution with side by side comparisons to tell the difference is going to have any effect when you play the game in motion? Play Arkham Asylum on the PS3 and then come and tell me the experience is inferior to the 360 version.
"sexy factor" Nothing screams sexy like cheap looking plastic with an ejectable tray, big power brick, loud ass fan and snap on parts! I got a boner dragon just thinking about it.
REACT TO ME!
CheeziePotato @ Nov 4th 2009 4:46PM
Well said, johnnynumber5.
As to the rest of you...arguing will get you no where.
CheeziePotato @ Nov 4th 2009 4:47PM
I meant arguing on the INTERNET will get you nowhere.
Joystiq needs an edit and delete button.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 4:58PM
Cry harder Johnny.
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 4th 2009 5:06PM
@johnnynumber5
Agreed. The fact is, today, both systems are about the same, and the only things we can really argue over is opinions (ie, which controller do you personally prefer). Why don't we just argue over which system has the better logo while we're at it?
@CheeziePotato
Especially considering that we're arguing over something as pointless as video games. If one's life is that highly impacted by which system wins this gen, then either A) He or she works for Microsoft or Sony or B) His or her life is pretty pathetic. Let's hope it's the former.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Nov 4th 2009 6:24PM
CLEARLY, the PS3 has the best logo!
jynxycat @ Nov 4th 2009 1:20PM
Walmart's trying to avoid getting scammed with returned banned xboxes, by giving a good deal instead.
:T
Warlock @ Nov 4th 2009 1:21PM
Yeah, this is an awesome deal. Great gift for my little brother.
darthbob @ Nov 4th 2009 1:22PM
A $200 Xbox 360 + $150 Blu-ray Player - $100 gift card = $250 Xbox 360 w/ Blu-ray
$250 Xbox 360+Blu-ray > $299 Standalone PS3
Thanks Wal Mart for giving me a great gift idea.
B3astofthe3ast @ Nov 4th 2009 1:26PM
+$100 wifi. Ps3 still wins in value, even with a $100 gift card
jon.athan @ Nov 4th 2009 1:28PM
But of course, if you're choosing your system based on value than game selection isn't necessarily your priority. Cheap cars aren't better than luxury cars because they're a better "value."
Ballistic H @ Nov 4th 2009 1:33PM
+ ~$100 for Microsoft's hard drive.
joeybeast @ Nov 4th 2009 1:34PM
You forgot the hard drive.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 1:37PM
You might have to buy a new HDD later on but a new xbox for 99$ is one heck of a deal.
shibathedog @ Nov 4th 2009 1:48PM
Are you serious? What kind of dumbass plays games over wifi? Wired wins for everything every time. If you don't have a nearby jack it is extremely easy to install one. If you can't install a jack because you live with your parents your opinion is irrelevant anyway.
GiggMan @ Nov 4th 2009 1:59PM
Shibathedog.... What kind of idiot thinks that wired gives you more of an advantage then WiFi?
WiFi is just fine for online gaming and I would rather set up WiFi (not just for gaming, Laptop, Cell Phone, Portable Handhelds, etc.) then installing a bunch of jacks all over the house...... Just saying.
eNrique @ Nov 4th 2009 1:59PM
shibathedouche, you would be surprised about how many people play online over Wi Fi, some of them even pay 100 bucks (plus a monthly fee) just to it.
And it's lagless, don't bring that old argument here, I use it, It works, and it does it like a charm.
Ballistic H @ Nov 4th 2009 2:04PM
@ shibathedog: I have 2 desktops, a laptop, a PS3, and a 360. I don't think I'd want to wire all that. I have NO problem at all with my wireless gaming.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 4th 2009 2:32PM
"Are you serious? What kind of dumbass plays games over wifi?"
I sure hope you weren't on the other team when I went 35-3 in COD 4 using my "pathetic" wireless connection.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 4th 2009 3:24PM
@Winterfang
You aren't getting a 360 for $99. You still have to pay $200 in cash. You just get a $100 Wal-Mart gift card for doing so. You still have to spend $200 of actual cash. It's not like you can walk in there with $100 and tell them to keep the gift card and call it even. It's an important distinction to make. It's a good deal if you were already considering buying an Arcade but it's not a $100 360.
Eh @ Nov 4th 2009 3:51PM
A $100 gift card at Walmart is the same as cash to adults. They have groceries (which are much cheaper than regular grocery stores), every adult buys groceries, use the gift card on groceries.
eNrique @ Nov 4th 2009 4:10PM
Even with the 100 bucks giftcard and getting the Blu Ray player along with an arcade for 250, the PlayStation 3 still has a far better value, more reliable hardware and it comes in one box.
tabicat @ Nov 4th 2009 4:15PM
WINterfang: a WiFi connection is an order of magnitude faster than your Internet service, so speed-wise WiFi is fine as long as the connection is reliable.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 4:55PM
I haven't even mentioned Wifi in any of my post so far =/.
Riley @ Nov 5th 2009 2:11AM
It's not the bandwidth that matters with gaming, it's the latency, which WiFi adds quite a bit to
B3astofthe3ast @ Nov 4th 2009 1:24PM
Your move, ps3. Even though an arcade is useless
jayeffaar @ Nov 4th 2009 1:27PM
Sure, but $100 will get you the 60 GB starter pack. They sell those at Wal-Mart, don't they?
Temidien @ Nov 4th 2009 2:15PM
I'll get more use out of an extra 360 for another room of my house than I do out of my PS3. I log maybe a third of my gaming hours on the PS3, the rest to my 360.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 4th 2009 3:44PM
@Temidien
Cool story bro.
Arturo @ Nov 4th 2009 1:26PM
I wonder if the $148 bluray player is decent. I plan on getting one for my dad for xmas. hmm.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 4th 2009 1:35PM
I heard it's a Sony, so it has to be pretty good.
Johnny Neat @ Nov 4th 2009 4:28PM
It's the 2.0 spec Sony BDP-S360 player. Not bad for the money but at this price it's been sitting on Amazon for a good minute. Sad thing it doesn't have Netflix or Pandora etc that new players have.
Look, I'd always tell people to grab a PS3 for their Blu-raying needs which is only added to by it's gaming, internet browser, wi-fi & soon Netflix streaming through disk & easy updates blah blah blah etc but for the cheap money it's grab the S360 or wait for the Holiday expected deals of below $100 BP players, even a few $50 offerings are expected.
Arturo @ Nov 4th 2009 6:54PM
Yeah I was thinking I'd get a cheaper player for my dad since he would probably never use any of the other features, unless I ended up using the player every once in a while too lol.
