Dragon Quest IX is Q3's top-selling game

Following Wii Sports Resort in the top five: Madden NFL 2010 at 2,612,000, Pokemon HeartGold And SoulSilver at 2,068,000, and Halo 3: ODST, which was only out for a week in Q3, at 1,847,000 copies. All these games have plenty more sales ahead of them as the holidays approach!

The same artist (Akira Toriyama) designed DBZ, but it's not very similar aside from that. DQ9 looks amazing... I wish I were the lucky owner of one of those 3.925 million copies.

No, but Akira Toriyama can only create the same characters over and over and over again because nearly all of his characters look the same. The bald dude at the very left is Tien without the third eye from DBZ basically and different clothes.

I hate the art direction, I'm sorry but these are some of the ugliest character designs I have ever seen. I really want to play the game though.

@Anti - I'm definitely not a Toriyama fan either and I think his characters are pretty generic but come on, those are totally not the ugliest characters you've ever seen.
Most character designs made outside Japan or Korea are uglier, for a start. Don't tell me you've never seen one of those 'we're trying to do anime/manga style but we hired some random guy fresh out of art school who's maybe seen a Sailor Moon episode one time' projects...

As obsessed with profit as Nintendo is, they sure have interesting views on what games are released in America. DQ9 would sell well here. And I'm still awaiting Earthbound on the VC...

You're right, Nintendo has a really twisted way of deciding what gets released in America what doesn't... I mean sure, Earthbound didn't sell well on the SNES in 1995, but if you figure in all the people its won over in the past 14 years, plus the ease of downloading it on the VC at the low price of $5... it's really stupid for Nintendo NOT to release it soon.

Sorry, I'm reading the Playstation Section of this site for a while like right now, but this article is related to a game on the Nintendo DS/DSI and not on any of the Playstation Systems, is going to be a port of Dragon Quest IX to PSP, or is just to show how amazing this game sells?

Is anyone else playing DQ9? It's absolutely fantastic and I highly suggest importing it-unless it's getting released soon in America. Just playing it for the character collection and treasure maps is rewarding on its own.
