Do you want your copy of
Mass Effect 2 to have more
mass? EA has you covered with the newly announced
Mass Effect 2 Collector's Edition, available for $69.99 on Xbox 360 and $59.99 on PC. It includes pretty much what you'd expect from a collector's edition: a tin box, an art book, a DVD with making-of footage, and Issue 1 of the
Mass Effect: Redemption comic. It also includes some unique weapons and armor for the game that are limited to this package.
Of course, if you've bought
Dragon Age's collector's edition, this will be the
second set of exclusive
Mass Effect items you'll have earned from fancy game boxes!
Mass Effect 2 (and this classy variant) will be out January 26 in North America and January 29 in Europe. Check out the full box art and the armor in our gallery.

I'd almost pay the ten extra bucks to avoid that terrible cover art.
Temidien @ Nov 5th 2009 10:15AM
That was my first thought. $10 to not be embarrassed by the crappy box art not to mention the new art is oh-so-sexy.
LaughingTarget @ Nov 5th 2009 10:22AM
Unless you're putting the box out in a Marquis out in front of your home whenever you play a game, the box art shouldn't embarras anyone (frankly, if you put the box out front, it's embarrasing no matter what it looks like).
Disk goes in console (or installed on PC), box vanishes to gaping maw of my giant ottoman/storage locker never to be seen until I switch out to a different game. The
box is what keeps the disk from being scratched, not a decorating accessory.
borland502 (SDF Macross) @ Nov 5th 2009 10:57AM
"....The box is what keeps the disk from being scratched, not a decorating accessory."
Eh Sonny? Some of us jes remember the days when a little box art wert t'only thing purdy. Before these new fangled MP3's and AAC's records wert mighty fine t'look at on a self.
Well and besides that, I generally have the box on my coffee table or computer desk while I'm playing the game. It's not the end of the world to have ugly cover art, but I appreciate it when they've taken the time to make it look good. Or at least have taken the time to make the art not look bad.
Temidien @ Nov 5th 2009 11:17AM
I'm sure there are plenty of us out there that, after putting the disk in the tray, leave the box lying around nearby for when the inevitable switching of games occur. Considering ME2 will likely be in my 360 for quite a while, I'd rather not wince every time I walk by my TV and see the box.
Kamal @ Nov 5th 2009 12:18PM
I understand the tin box, action figures, making of, etc in collector's edition but it really chaps my a$$ when in game items are included with such editions. that is so bogus. it's like you are not getting the complete experience unless you pay extra for the cr@p that should have been in the game to begin with. I.e. $60 does not provide a full game experience.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Nov 5th 2009 9:11AM
Tin box? Check
Art book/comic/other miniature leaflets? Check
Making-of DVD? Check
Collector's Edition DLC? Check
I always eat this stuff up like the sucker I am, but I do wish somebody out there would bring new, special items to the Collector's Edition table.
Joe @ Nov 5th 2009 9:19AM
Well, looks like I'm getting this. ME2 is definitely my most anticipated game of 2010
Deezul @ Nov 5th 2009 9:20AM
I already pre-ordered at Gamestop for the Gamestop armor/weapon bonus. I wonder if it's a different set, and if GS will let me get the CE edition instead.
Ethan @ Nov 5th 2009 9:22AM
I'm glad to not be a collector!
Mazrael @ Nov 5th 2009 9:24AM
....Want! ..I'll be upgrading my preorder..
Ninjalawyer @ Nov 5th 2009 9:25AM
Making a collectors edition for the sequel to a popular game? Shocking. The only point of collectors editions this gen is to sell gullible gamers an extra $3 worth of merchandise for $10 and to take up twice as much shelf space. I wish companies would actually focus on putting interesting things in collectors editions rather than just cramming a cheaply made tin full of worthless shit.
Temidien @ Nov 5th 2009 10:17AM
For being a "ninja lawyer" your comment was neither subtle nor well-reasoned.
NOOK @ Nov 5th 2009 11:20AM
Really? I got my GoW2 CE for 17 €, my Fallout 3 CE for 30 € and my Far Cry 2 CE for 15 €. So i got 3 games for a lot less than their street price (69 € each for the standard edition) plus a few artbooks, some making of DVDs, a bobble head figurine, a T-Shirt(!) a metal lunch box, a steelbook and a ...uhmm ... ikea wood box.
You really just gotta compare prices.
Vadrix @ Nov 5th 2009 9:26AM
Of all the games coming out within the next few months (MW2, AC2, L4D2, BC2) Mass Effect 2 is by far my most anticipated.
Its looking gorgeous and they seem to have improved on the main issues of the first game. Hopefully they designed it to take better advantage of a hard drive install to avoid the long elevator rides and texture pop-in.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 5th 2009 9:26AM
That box cover looks "edgy" or at least looks better than the regular edition one.
Premature ejaculation man @ Nov 5th 2009 9:27AM
EA should announce that they're sending me a full release copy right this second.
Michael Paul @ Nov 5th 2009 9:27AM
My plain copy of DA:O had armor that would be shared with ME2, so is that a 3rd set of armor or not?
Someday I'll have to get back to Mass Effect. I won a copy of the Collector's Edition in a sweepstakes and had no real incentive to force my way through it to justify the cost...
anexanhume @ Nov 5th 2009 11:57AM
Originally it was announced that only the CE of dragon age would have the ME2 bonus. Then they announced that all versions of it would have the code. So, it's blood dragon armor from DA purchase, plus terminus or inferno if you pre-order and dependent upon your retailer, plus this new armor with any new CE purchase.
NeoK-182 @ Nov 5th 2009 9:39AM
tin case and cover art thats 1000 times better than retail? worth the 10 bucks regardless of what the other stuff is. good shit EA.
Really love the cover art on this.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 5th 2009 9:51AM
I was thinking about getting the collectors edition until I saw what was actually in it. Who the hell wants to pay $10 extra for an art book and all that other pointless crap?
Throw in some meaningful (aka, not crappy weapons or armor) DLC, maybe a book that details part of the lore...something substantial.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 5th 2009 9:54AM
I do want to add though, after buying Metroid Prime Trilogy, I've become a fan of tin game boxes. They're kind of cool
LaughingTarget @ Nov 5th 2009 10:14AM
The making of DVD is the worst pack in. Same shaky cam, same sweaty geek talking about the same technical thing in front of an obligatory PC monitor showing a wire frame animation, same "ooh, look, BioWare office cublicle" shots. Making of is interesting only the first time, but not interesting enough to pay for and surely not interesting enough to see it over and over again.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 10:37AM
id say issue 1 of the comic counts as something that details the lore doesnt it?
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 5th 2009 10:40AM
No, because it's a comic book and those are stupid. Oblivion's CE came with a big book with all the lore in it, that's more along the lines of what I'm talking about.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 10:42AM
comic books arent stupid : (
uncle jesse @ Nov 5th 2009 10:51AM
"No, because it's a comic book and those are stupid."
Whoa, whoa whoa! You better take that back!
Silicon Siren @ Nov 5th 2009 11:00AM
tmacairjordan87 - ultimate douche
I for one love the art books, game comics and the tin cases. Making of DVD's are always pretty lame but I look forward to standing it next to my CE version of Mass Effect 1.
Rocket Raccoon @ Nov 5th 2009 11:06AM
I'm excited for this comic series! I would also be happy with more Mass Effect books. I love everything about this universe!
Babel @ Nov 5th 2009 11:09AM
Urgh, yet another thing Tmac doesn't think has any merit...
Hopefully it was just a throwaway comment, and he didn't really mean it.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 5th 2009 11:22AM
I mean everything I say, since I'm not acting anymore. Comic books and standard collector's editions are stupid and a waste of money.
ytilanigiroon @ Nov 6th 2009 12:44PM
Don't listen to anything tmacairjordan87 says, he's probably just doing another "assignment for school".
petey @ Nov 5th 2009 10:02AM
I never buy this collector's edition stuff, but Mass Effect is awesome enough to justify the departure here. If that's the cover art, it looks almost Criterion-like, which is most awesome.
rv @ Nov 5th 2009 10:06AM
My top 3 games from this gen have sequels/addons
MW2
Ballad of Gay Tony
Mass Effect 2
I am very happy.
Beagles @ Nov 5th 2009 10:10AM
You don't need the collector's edition of dragon age to get the Mass Effect 2 Dragon Armour.
All new regular editions come with it, as well as the stone age prisoner DLC (1200 MS points)
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 10:36AM
right, the collectors edition gets you the cloth map, the tin case, and 4 other items; bergens honor, a helmet, something reason a staff, grimore of something that levels you up and another book that levels you up
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 10:35AM
That's a pretty badass cover, way better than high school art project that is the regular one
Kibbles @ Nov 5th 2009 12:28PM
Hurray for a male-free cover!
Shepard = Jennifer Hale
always. :)
Granger @ Nov 5th 2009 10:43AM
Looks a lot better than the traditional cover, and the original CE for that matter. The making of DVD on the first Mass Effect CE was one of the better ones out there though, so I hope this isn't just some MTV-cut 18 minute documentary.
And where's RKN? He finally got his PC Collector's Edition!
RKN @ Nov 5th 2009 5:15PM
I was at work and how did you know I wanted the CE of the game? I guess I must have said it in my previous comments, I forget easily.
Now if Bioware would release the first game on the PC with a CE, the first game never got the CE on the PC.
Hell, even the Platinum Hits version on the 360 has the extras like artwork, developer interview, etc from the CE. : 0
Samuel Vimes @ Nov 5th 2009 10:46AM
I want this!
Throw a shepard figure in or something though. Figures/Trinkets always wins me over 100%. Ah well, tin cases are so worth it.
uncle jesse @ Nov 5th 2009 10:52AM
ME figurines would be awesome!
Cerixus @ Nov 5th 2009 12:58PM
I would sell my soul for a quality Normandy model.
Geebs @ Nov 5th 2009 1:22PM
Not gonna lie, I'd like a little Wrex doll. Or maybe some Hanar silly putty...
hallowhero @ Nov 5th 2009 10:50AM
You should actually get the N7 armor. That new cover art really makes me want it. When I saw the official I was like "Huh? That's the poster they used for E3!" It was very lazy on their part.
embassy @ Nov 5th 2009 10:53AM
So If I buy this collector's edition I'll get to play as Ryu Hayabusa? Dope.
Dirty @ Nov 5th 2009 11:07AM
Seems like the armor looks a lot more badass than the first game. I always hated the helmets and just kept them off.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 11:32AM
I always hated my face and kept the helmets on
uncle jesse @ Nov 5th 2009 11:48AM
I think you're beautiful, Wayne.
Don't hide....
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 4:20PM
if i dont then everyone will know bruce wayne is Batman!
