Well, if you have Steam for an example, and choose to download your games there, you will have the games on your harddrive. Dismount the harddrive from your pc, and your currently holding a hard copy of the game among your other games in your bare hands.

"Digital acquisition strategy"? Sounds like someone is in the market for an already-existing digital distribution service. Like Direct2Drive... or Steam

I was thinking about buying a digital download from GS, till I found out that they charge 4 bucks for you to have a copy available for 18 months for redownload...and after that will have to rebuy the game again! Bastards!

I get ripped off by Gamestop IN store. I doubt I'll be purchasing anything from them that isn't even tangible. That just sounds like a recipe for disappointment, to me.

"power to the players"
That slogan always makes me laugh. They sure have given me power to go to other stores to buy my games.

After playing games for nearly 30 years now: digital distribution can't come fast enough. But then again my goal is to play my games forever and never sell any of them.

I simply don't trust Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo to understand that my license to play some game remains despite their need to produce new platforms. All three of them have shown signs of fleecing the consumer with double dips and BS micro-transactions.

At least with Steam I know where I stand. The consoles, however, have not disclosed their future plans in regards to my digital games. Everything should transfer over seamlessly come next gen but they could just as easily vaporize like the promises of backwards compatibility past.

Why would Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony want a middle man selling there downloads and taking a cut of the profits. I mean who really thinks that any company would let that happen?

GS is done once downloads become the standard way to buy games. The only way I see GS having a good digital download store is if they stick to PC and emulate what Steam is doing right now.

The reason is simple. There's still a huge percentage of Xbox 360s and PS3s that never log into the online service. Both offer free services and some people aren't interested or don't know how to set them up to play online.

If I download A PSN, WiiWare or Xbox live arcade game the only middleman is the console maker for 3rd party games.

Why would they let GS in on the profit?

How does amazon have anything to do with console downloads?
