Halo Legends Blu-ray dated Feb. 9, 2010; perfect fanboy storm approaches
A year ago, the following sentence would have been absolutely, totally, and in all other ways inconceivable: The Blu-ray edition of the Halo Legends anime project is scheduled for release on February 9, 2010. The impossible union of Halo and Blu-ray will not only arrive on the same day as the DVD release, but it will also contain an exclusive overview of the series through the events of Halo 3. As Blu-ray.com risibly puts it, "Soon you'll be able to play Halo on your PS3."
Now, we'd like to think that this generation of consoles is far enough along that this news won't ruffle any fanboy feathers. Then again, we'd also like to think that HD DVD, in all its awesomeness, is poised for a comeback. Just remember, Halo fans, Blu-ray discs are not your enemy. Cliffhangers are.

I don't think this will actually annoy anyone, they still have the DVD version.

GiggMan @ Nov 5th 2009 2:55PM
It's definitely going to annoy people after I tell everyone I know that it's going to be one of those Blu-Ray movie Game Demo combos. You know...just for the hell of it.
On second thought never mind I might just get stabbed.
Edge @ Nov 5th 2009 3:05PM
And why would I get the Blu-ray when I can download it on Xbox Live?
GewurztraminerX @ Nov 5th 2009 3:05PM
How convenient for you. I don't like paying for gas; where are you parked?
MrAlex @ Nov 5th 2009 3:44PM
Why did I get downvoted?
You all might not agree with edge but I do, its not like they can't buy a blu-ray or download the HD version.
eNrique @ Nov 5th 2009 3:46PM
Looks like the PSN community sent those 2 million messages to get teh haloz on Blu Ray.
The irony.
Maximiliano Guerra @ Nov 5th 2009 3:48PM
Just out of curiosity, why MrAlex and Chris were down voted ? o.O
BlackDove @ Nov 5th 2009 3:50PM
Yes, but the DVD version, because of the lack of space, will have a lower bitrate.
Meaning, for the highest quality Halo, you have to use the Blu-Ray. Meaning the highest quality Halo can only be seen on the competitor's console.
The irony is poignant.
Elranzer @ Nov 5th 2009 4:24PM
That's OK. I don't think PS3 fanboys have still recovered from Xbox 360 getting Final Fantasy XIII (and inevitably Final Fantasy XIV).
aristokrat @ Nov 5th 2009 5:02PM
I'm willing to bet that you will be able to download them to a 360 in the long-run, but in the extremely short-run (pre-Feb 10), you'll be able to watch them on Waypoint for free, with the first episode "airing" this Saturday. I'm pretty sure all the big time Halo fans will watch them first that way, and from what I can tell, they look to be pretty smooth (judging by the preview), though I imagine lower resolutions are probably much more forgiving to animations, so my eyes might just be deceiving me.
So in summary, the Xbox is getting preferential treatment in this situation, and the 'Stiq conveniently left that out so everyone'd argue down here in the comments.
Anti-Villian @ Nov 6th 2009 1:05AM
LOOK AT HIS LIL BABY HANDS THEY SO ADOWABLE
fffunfarm06 @ Nov 5th 2009 2:31PM
The irony!
Kinsey @ Nov 5th 2009 3:15PM
I'll actually look forward to watching this in HD on my PS3. My 360 that sits beside the my PS3 will feel like its been cheated on, but I like the Halo universe and the stories that it brings. This will be a welcomed edition to my BD collection.
CJLopez @ Nov 5th 2009 3:40PM
its delicious, isnt it?
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Nov 5th 2009 6:00PM
Is the Halo anime going to be as boring as the games?
skyzbig @ Nov 5th 2009 2:34PM
Well at least the movie will be in HD....
protofunc @ Nov 5th 2009 5:15PM
ZING!
blazinsmokey @ Nov 5th 2009 6:09PM
and will be ripped asap to a 1080p mkv and a day later to 1080p wmv-hd files and spread on the internet about as fast as the comment "is this better than halo?".
UNSCleric @ Nov 5th 2009 2:34PM
I don't see what the big deal is...it's not like the PS3 is the only Blu-ray player (good thing it's not, cause it's a horrible one).
WREturns [Planeteer I Power of The Final Countdown] @ Nov 5th 2009 2:36PM
The PS3 is not a horrible blu ray player. Oh, I just saw your name. Give that food back right now, troll!
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 5th 2009 2:37PM
Care to explain why it's a horrible BD player? Or are you just being that guy?
Granger @ Nov 5th 2009 2:39PM
PS3 is among the better Blu-ray players, what are you smoking? Its biggest *and as far as I'm concerned, only* caveat is the loading times (and if you're crazy, the lack of an IR remote).
UNSCleric @ Nov 5th 2009 2:41PM
It's painfully slow in every area and the connection issues with TVs are constant. I would be willing to bet the quality is also not too great either when compared to other ones by Samsung and Panasonic. It's a sub-standard player, just like PS2's DVD capabilities.
dj087drg @ Nov 5th 2009 2:49PM
Um no it wasnt. The ps2 was just as good as a dvd player you would buy for 200$ and as for the PS3 blu ray its one of the best and yes you can even look it up its faster.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 2:48PM
uhhh the PS3 IS one of the BEST BD Players for under $300
hell its the ONLY one that can EASILY do 3D BD movies with a simple firmware update
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Nov 5th 2009 2:51PM
I don't see what the big deal is, its not as if Halo is the most interesting game in the world, it's just a sub-standard alien shooter, nothing more, nothing less.
:)
Jack Tretton @ Nov 5th 2009 2:58PM
"[T]he PS3 IS one of the BEST BD Players for under $300..."
Was it one of the best for under $600? $500? $400?
Prof. Von Manifest (aka Dallas McCoy of the Cocaine Imperium) [PSN: Manifest37] @ Nov 5th 2009 3:02PM
Anyone unsatisfied with this release should start a petition for an HD-DVD version.
good luck.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Nov 5th 2009 3:02PM
Funny enough Jack, it was at the time, which was the arguement, but obviously, as the tech becomes more widely available, Sony's argument that it was one of the best for the cheapest price became....unarguable to tell the truth, as the price goes down so too does the argument stay in place.
tomlinson731 @ Nov 5th 2009 3:03PM
You clearly don't have any experience/merit on the matter.
I have a PS3 as well as a stand alone Sony, Samsung and Magnavox Bluray player and the PS3 is the superior one. The video quality is the same on all of them (with all hooked up via HDMI) and the PS3 actually hast the quickest loading times and ease of use. My least favorite is the Sony standalone bluray player, it has the slowest loading times by far but may just need a firmware update.
HeXeN @ Nov 5th 2009 3:04PM
It seems like a lot of 360 fanboys have been coming out of the dark lately while some of the PS3 fanboys have fade it away.

"I would be willing to bet the quality is also not too great either when compared to other ones by Samsung and Panasonic. It's a sub-standard player, just like PS2's DVD capabilities."
You first admit you don't know how its quality stacks up against other Blu Ray players, then you state that its quality lacks against other Blu Ray players. You can't even troll well - here, I'll fix this to be a proper 12-year old's troll:
"my best friends father works with Blu Ray players (he actually works at best buy part time LOL!!!) and he told me that the Ps 3 isnt' that great of a player copared to other players but stupid sony fanboys dont care all they care about is their lame uncharted which sux compared to halo uncharted has no good guns and my friend tried playing it online and it has no good grphics because those textures arent as smooth as those in halo lol !!!!!!!!!!!! add me on xbl biGMan1337"
psn: ijustw1n @ Nov 5th 2009 3:33PM
The "big deal" is that Blu-ray is Sony's format that they created and championed and the PS3 is its main product.
Are you stupid?
Punkrawk Bbob @ Nov 5th 2009 3:42PM
@HeXen
That's probably because PS3 users are actually engaged in their systems at the moment while 360 users got nothing but multi-platform titles.
Uncharted 2
Ratchet & Clank
Demon's Souls
Fat Princess
Trine
Plus all the good multiplatformers like Brutal Legend, Dragon Age, FIFA 10, Borderlands...
Then you have a few titles that are late to the party on PS3 finally getting there like all the DLC for Fallout 3 (which basically makes another game) and Castle Crashers. PS3 users are not without entertainment at the moment, I tell you that.
360'ers are waiting for MW2, L4D2 and AC2 off the top of my head.

The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 4:15PM
since you guys know so much about blu ray players, do you know how to get rid of the omnipresent black extras bar in the top left corner of almost every movie?

I am in tears right now.
Matt @ Nov 5th 2009 5:33PM
All I can say is that the PS3's Blu Ray player is better than the 360's :)
mahouneko @ Nov 5th 2009 7:17PM
@tomlinson:
That's... pretty awkward. I mean, a Sony standalone BD player being worse than the PS3. How old is the standalone player?
@Punkrawk:
As a PS3 owner, I'd prefer it if you'd stop trying to incite a flame war. If the 360 fans want to have fun with our games, they're welcome to join the PS3 club... so long as they leave behind the potty mouthed immaturity at the door.
Also, Trine is multiplatform. It's been out on the PC for a while now and I think will show up on XBL. I don't remember off the top of my head because it's been a few months since I last read the Trine article.

I had a good laugh just now and then I remembered what Ballmer said about Blu-Ray drives. Maybe he was referring to this?
Granger @ Nov 5th 2009 2:36PM
Welcome to 2004, a time when millions of Halo 2 Limited Collector's Edition owners watched their Halo 2 Making of DVD on their PlayStation 2s (which is still one of, if not the best, making of DVD to ship with a game).
Roger @ Nov 5th 2009 2:47PM
yeah but fallout 3 had a black out in it's making of disk.
BLACKOUT!

I was just talking about that documentary, actually. It really is a marvel.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 5th 2009 4:12PM
Yeah it really was great, still get disappointed by most other making of DVDs. And im also still disappointed at how awesome the starting city level would have been : (

I watched it on my xbox.. never bothered with the PS2
