Twelve months, one million community levels, and a PSP spin-off later, some are wondering if it's time for Media Molecule to begin working on an honest-to-goodness sequel to PS3 platformer LittleBigPlanet. The answer seems to be a very clear no. "We'd never want to do that," level designer told Danny Leaver told Critical Gamer. "That'd be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think."
Certainly, the release of a sequel would splinter one of PlayStation's most dedicated online communities. Would user-created levels be compatible with a future game? Would DLC costumes carry across into a new title? These questions, thankfully, won't need to be addressed. Instead, Media Molecule plans on supporting LBP with additional downloadable content. "I think what you've seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that's the way it's going to continue." said producer Martin Lynagh. We already know of two major patches: water and support for the PlayStation Motion Controller. However, Lynagh explains that there's much more to expect, especially in 2010. "We have a lot of stuff coming out, especially next year. We can't really talk about specifics for a lot of it at the moment, because a lot of it hasn't been announced."
One of Media Molecule's unannounced expansions may be similar in execution to the Metal Gear Solid pack from earlier this year. "We're looking forward to some really good original content, and some really strong brands we're working with," Lynagh teased.

Some people's lives including being creative and artistic. Sometimes it's also their job ;) as with me. Designing levels helps prevent my skills from fading away, and most of the time inspires me to do more, and come up with new ideas for work :)
For others it's just a hobby and there is nothing wrong with that. Some people like to draw, write stories, paint, sculpt... and others like to create levels for LittleBigPlanet.
(which is in a way similar to how people enjoy creating Mods for PC games, which coincidentally helps some to find jobs.)
Creating levels is a very productive thing to do if you ask me :)

I'm not saying that this type of content isn't beneficial, as are the benefits of keeping the creative mind active. I also work full time in the creative field and can find it difficult sometimes to keep the flow going outside of the day to day design work.
I spent many a year doing mod work for quake and counterstrike, but unfortunately these days a lot of my spare time is spent on freelance/contract outside when I'm not trying to get in my gaming. And that's my own doing.
Just saying that they seem to have neglected what is potentially a way of keeping the game 'new', not only for current owners, but new ones as well.
There is a growing number of people who feel "left out". and it's unfortunate that they feel that way. Especially for a game of this type.

Sounds to me like you just need to find some lists in places like Little Big Planet Central. They put out bi-weekly lists or so of spotlight levels. Many of these levels are new episodes in series, 4-5 levels long.
If you can put the time into following a news site like Joystiq, you can put a few minutes into looking up some good levels. (Or just use Most Hearted, Highest Rated, or "Cool levels")

I'd hate to see a littlebigplanet 2, we've got some great tools and a strong community to build on already.
you could easily have expansion packs every few months/years to keep the game fresh, once the online create and extra bits and bobs are installed
bring it on :)

I got to say, I've only seen two posts of yours so far on Joystiq and you seem to be a pretty big shithead. Ending every sentence with "fail" is the lamest thing since "woot" or even going back to the 90's where you would say something, pause, and then say "NOT!".

I wish people would just stop bitching about this...they've not forgotten about it.
it's been bug tested and tweaked and they're now moved their focus on the water beta..bug testing takes ages, what would you want..something that's buggy as hell that crashes the ps3 or a brilliant new way to play the game?
it'll be out when it's out...

Hasn't online create been around since the LBP beta? Haven't there been more than one beta for this? Other developers make games faster than this. The videos I saw from the LBP beta in online create didn't seem that buggy, and the water DLC is getting ready to release this year? It doesn't add up.
It reminds me of Killzone 2 and adding vehicles to multiplayer - which has never been spoken about since the release of the game.

Game just needs an expansion pack, just new levels and story stuff created by the devs not even really a new game. Just tons of fun new non-user created levels.

There's level designers at Media Molecule? I figured they quit after the MGS4 pack was released last December, lol.
But seriously, I wish they'd get to work on more levels. Having a new level pack come out so soon after the release of the game got my hopes high for seeing more great content, alongside the community levels. Buuut one year after release, still no packs... in its stead, a crapload of costumes.
Which is all well and good, some are cool, don't get me wrong... but I'd like to see some playable content, too.

Is about time we get some strong dlc. And I mean level packs, not stickers or costumes, How long has it been since MGS Level Pack came out?

Why would they make a sequel?
They make way too much money off the suckers who buy every single overpriced sackboy costume.
If they start making a new game, it's going to be something completely new and if they're smart they're going to make sure they will make sure it's a game that will also allow them to release a steady stream of low-production micro-transaction dlc packs like they did with LBP.
