If you're a Netflix user and haven't bothered to sign up for the free disc that enables
Netflix streaming on your PlayStation 3, you should
go do that. Like, right now. Netflix just sent out emails indicating that the discs are shipping today, and if you have yet to indicate your interest in the service, your disc is obviously not going out today.
And that means you may have to watch
The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep on your computer instead of on the television,
where it belongs. Do you want to be the one to break
that news to your family? Of course you don't.

Wow I just sent a tip about this...Anyways anyone thought they would get it this fast?
Brian B. @ Nov 5th 2009 1:08PM
Yep me too. Just got the email, sent in tip to Joystiq and already scooped. Mine will be in my grubby little hands tomorrow. Maybe this weekend I'll stream the same movie simultaneously to my 360 and PS3, you know, because I can.
gordo @ Nov 5th 2009 1:23PM
I just caved and signed up, so I likely won't be getting my big clean hands on it for a while.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:54PM
I knew it was coming this fast....
Black friday ads I have seen have Netflix as a bullet point under the PS3
(01) @ Nov 5th 2009 2:51PM
Mine says shipping today, arrival tomorrow. Guess I'll be watching a lot of movies this weekend...
SolidSnakeX @ Nov 7th 2009 9:42AM
Nope haven't seen it yet..Slow USPS.There supposed to ship the movies and games back to these companies right? No instead they send the same movie/games to your home address gezz what are they stupid?..Or better yet to lazy to do there job!?..Ridiculous!
GiggMan @ Nov 5th 2009 1:04PM
So you mean to tell me that there is a chance I could be watching The Water Horse by this weekend? On My TV? Instead of my computer?
YES!!!
myspaceisevil @ Nov 5th 2009 1:28PM
psh. the water horse is for kids.
be a real man watch the back seasons of Hannah Montana like me!
Chris @ Nov 5th 2009 1:06PM
I can't wait for the, "Netflix killed my PS3!" topics on the forums.
Mo @ Nov 5th 2009 5:06PM
well, played
SolidSnakeX @ Nov 7th 2009 9:48AM
Yeah no kidding lmao!..I rather have In Game Music/Cross In Game Chat with a Universal Ban/Friends List then this stupid idea..But for what?..I already have an account with BlockBusteronline.com....NetFlix?..Nah--.......USELESS CRAP FROM SONY!
WREturns [Planeteer I Power of The Final Countdown] @ Nov 5th 2009 1:08PM
I already ordered mine, although I already have it on the 360. Oh well, why the hell not, right?
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Nov 5th 2009 1:27PM
I already have on 360 as well. I'd definitely take advantage of streaming Netflix on my PS3 too, but the disc thing makes just say "meh" when I can do it w/out a disc on the 360 that's sitting literally 1ft away from the PS3. :P
Ashitaka @ Nov 5th 2009 1:31PM
Indeed. If it's free, might as well have it even if you don't plan on using it :P
And besides, you can now actually compare the two services and have the legitimacy to say which is better (my bet is that the 360 will remain the best of the two services, at least 'till the end of 2010 - I think that's the date - when the PS3 will no longer need this netflix disc).
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Nov 5th 2009 1:58PM
I'll be switching to Watch Now movies/shows on the PS3 so that my poor 5th 360 will be able to run less often, and maybe that will expand its life cycle.
Duke @ Nov 5th 2009 1:59PM
I'll try it on the PS3 too even though I already use it on the 360 - why not? More choices. Sometimes for no good reason I feel like using one console over another and this will give me more reason to get moody and treat one with more love than the other for a while
CaramelZappa @ Nov 5th 2009 2:32PM
Same here. I don't see myself getting up and putting in the blu-ray netflix when I don't have to put a disc in with the 360, but why not have the option?
pax copia @ Nov 5th 2009 1:10PM
I hope this works with the PSP via its remote play feature.
daaWick @ Nov 5th 2009 1:51PM
Playon works with Netflix through remote play just as a backup. It is nice to be able to get the Netflix anywhere I have a wifi hotspot and my psp.
Ruction @ Nov 5th 2009 1:14PM
Looks like its finally time that i sign up for netflix.
CtrlBurn @ Nov 5th 2009 1:54PM
Please do. The more subscribers they have, the more new titles they can negotiate for instant watch. :)
Jose [Steam & PSN: Assmar] @ Nov 5th 2009 1:13PM
I know I have my PC hooked up to my TV, but I just don't care. I have a PS3, I have Netflix, I'm getting the goddamned disk okay?
Confucius @ Nov 5th 2009 1:15PM
Awesome sauce, the gap between XBL and PSN grows ever so slender.
Reuben @ Nov 5th 2009 1:21PM
It has nothing to do with power. I believe this has more to do with Netflix's already in-place deal with Microsoft.
Jimmyjimjim @ Nov 5th 2009 1:24PM
Dammit. I've been a Netflix subscriber for years and I never even got a notification that you needed to sign up for this. Way to go, Netflix. At least they figured out a way to get the service on the PS3, too bad they didn't tell people.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:26PM
Uhhh They DID tell people....
just that you are one of the people who DOESN'T look at the Devices section of the site.....or ya know....read press releases on their site OR Gaming/Tech Blogs....
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Nov 5th 2009 1:29PM
@Chris: Going and researching online =/= a notification. I didn't get A NOTIFICATION either, but yes I knew about it because I read about it on other sites.
Jimmyjimjim @ Nov 5th 2009 1:32PM
OK, let me tell you where the breakdown is.
When I went in to Netflix right now to see how I missed it, there's no notification on the "Member Home" page, your queue page, or the "browse movies" page.
If you are logged in on your computer, when you go to Netflix you go straight to your "Home" page. So why isn't there a notification in any of those places?
Sorry, for as much as I go to Netflix, for me not to see it is a breakdown in promotion.
gulpo @ Nov 5th 2009 1:38PM
Yeah I had found out about the disc online but never got an email or anything sent to my address. I finally found it on their site by going to Watch Instantly -> Instantly On Your TV -> Instant Devices. Then I finally found the link for the PS3 disc. This is what a regular netflix user would have to stumble through to find that they now have it on PS3. Where as a quick email would probably get more traffic.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:50PM
really??
I saw it on the Netflix.com main page last week....sure they didn't send out emails, but there is a reason for that.....it doesn't affect EVERYONE...so why send an mass email? sure they could have sent it to people that have Blu-ray rentals....but not ALL of those people have PS3's either....I think they went the route they did to make sure they didn't have disc shortages. and after they get those out they will send out an email to people in their quarterly newsletter....no biggie tho
Jimmyjimjim @ Nov 5th 2009 2:03PM
It actually makes me wonder if they didn't make it hard to find in order to avoid having to send out too many copies.
Duke @ Nov 5th 2009 2:02PM
...cause sending out a mass email to all users saying " Hey everyone, look at this new feature!" would have broken them financially right?
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 2:04PM
of course not Duke....but you would be surprised by how many people get pissed over getting email about shit thats not relevant to them, even if they ARE signed up for those
Young_Nastyman @ Nov 5th 2009 1:23PM
I can finally take my xbox to rock band parties without my dad bitching about not being able to watch Netflix!!!
The downside is now I have to show him how to work the PS3, lol
Ashitaka @ Nov 5th 2009 1:58PM
Not that hard. I bet that it will be even simpler than in the 360. In the 360 you have to go through a menu (already TOO simple) but with this disc I bet that all you'll have to do is insert it and Netflix will automatically start.
Young_Nastyman @ Nov 5th 2009 2:00PM
you have no idea, my dad used to be computer savvy, now hes like a caveman
Fane [Grammar Police - Power Of Pedantry] @ Nov 6th 2009 5:39PM
Don't let Caveman hear you say that, or he'll get mad like he does in the Geico commercials.
(hopes people know that one of the contributors here uses that nickname)
Jimmyjimjim @ Nov 5th 2009 1:24PM
I hope you're kidding. Joystiq's been talking for months about how it's a loophole around the 360 exclusivity deal.
Christ-ian @ Nov 5th 2009 1:24PM
Awwwwwwww Yeah! Yanks win and Netflix coming.... good day.
Suck it Kotic-... Philidel-... Microsoft!

Why are people asking dumb questions like "does it support remote play"
what Blu-ray disc Movie does??
Martin @ Nov 5th 2009 1:36PM
uhh stop asking stupid questions
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:40PM
my question is no more off the wall than them asking that
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Nov 5th 2009 2:01PM
So you are no better than them. :P j/k
gordo @ Nov 5th 2009 1:26PM
Yeah walmonte79, I know!
The PS3's "power" can't even circumvent a wimpy little exclusivity clause.
lorderk @ Nov 5th 2009 1:27PM
Is this going to be a Bluray 'game' or 'movie'? I ask this because I want to know if it's going to tell everyone I'm "Playing Netflix" or if it will be like a movie and tell my friends nothing at all.
gordo @ Nov 5th 2009 1:28PM
I think its going to tell them you're watching porn
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:29PM
uhh it uses BD-Java....so I'm Guess a Movie based format....
wait on the software next year to say all that....
Raider197 @ Nov 5th 2009 1:33PM
I'm pretty sure it won't tell people, it'll more than likely sign you out of PSN, like a Blu-Ray movie does
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Nov 5th 2009 1:28PM
"Months" Jim??
scroll down under the article a bit and what do I see?
