MLG forum user (and MS Paint fanatic) ToM MoReLLo claims to have played Halo: Reach, and was somehow able to nab multiple blurry screenshots of the game as evidence. Now, when we say blurry we mean blurry. In fact, the classic images of Bigfoot were of higher quality than some of these screens. Perhaps our natural skepticism is taking over, but we're taking these images with a rather large grain of salt.
As for details, the forum post claims Reach will feature squad-based combat and perks, similar to that of Modern Warfare. Squad-based mechanics certainly make sense, considering former Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter creative director Christian Allen joined Bungie in 2007. But again, grain of salt.
Halo: Reach -- Bungie's final title in the Halo universe -- is expected to ship in 2010. Microsoft has yet to reply to our request for a comment on the images.

It KINDA makes sense. Not entirely. If Reach will involve multiple Spartans, then squad based combat would be necessary. And Bungie has stated that Reach would use an all new engine.
But if they're Spartans, where is the shield bar?

The Spartans did have shields at the time the Battle of Reach happened. They'd just received the upgrade to MK V armor.
Of course, the rumors that Buck will be in the game would explain the lack of a shield bar...

I really hate getting this technical, but I believe Master Chief was the only spartan who got a shield at that time. Remember he first got it on the ship at the start of the first game after he had already been separated from the other spartans? Unless I'm forgetting something...

It would only make sense for them to take a game, based on the novel (which is highly squad-based,) in this direction. The fact, well - "imaginary fact" is that Spartans on Reach and the outlying colonies were much less powerful than later iterations due to lack of shield technology and fine-tuning. Due to limitations, squad-based tactics were encouraged, if not mandatory. Most, if not all (to my aged knowledge) of the encounters in the novel are actually squads of Spartans.
In context, sure, seems like a good idea. But when you look at it through a finer scope you're left with them (Bungie) simply emphasizing what was already presented in other (newer, speaking of course of Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST) permutations of the franchise. They both had four-player cooperative play, it's just a matter of if you chose to take advantage of it or not. They're doing the same thing they did with ODST, they took Halo 3, and pushed it back a couple of steps in an effort to "humanize" the experience. Now what they're doing is simply re-skinning Halo 3: ODST, and adding an extra layer - so what, it's like Halo 3 again, minus some things? So it's like Halo 3: ODST - with benefits? I really don't like the attitude nor direction they're choosing to take these games. Of course we don't have the full story, and it's all merely speculation, there's honestly not many more places you can take this franchise and stay true to the First-Person perspective. I respected Ensemble's take on the franchise, though it was simply 'above average,' at least they had the balls to push in a direction with which they could spread their wings, not limit them.

no, it think they did have shields. if i remember correctly, some of the spartans were dropping down in a Pelican before it got shot up, and they had to jump out without parachutes. some didn't survive the landing, but i remember a line that said one of the spartans was falling into trees and saw their shields flickering from the branches until they smacked right into a trunk and the whole shield went out.

Uncharted 2 is one helluva game. Some of the best gameplay this generation. The improvements to an already awesome franchise were mind boggling.

Would it shock you to know I bought a 360 well before I bought a PS3, troll? Just because I defend a perfectly-good console in the PS3 doesn't make me part of the "Sony Defense Force". It makes me part of the "Defeating Idiots with Commonly Known Sense" force.

The Last Guardian leak was from a media only event. It wasn't intentional.

Halo is overrated. I played the first game recently and found it dull, repetitive and disorientating. It was so bad I simply gave up three quarters of the way through. From what I've read, the other games aren't too different either. I fail to see why this series is so critically acclaimed. It's mediocre at best. I'll give Reach a shot though, at least, but I won't be expecting much. It's a shame, because I really did try to get into it.
