"Krav Maga is not a big flashy martial art," game designer Steve Masters adds, which may explain its relative obscurity. Turning to Wikipedia, we discover it has its origins in street fighting and literally means "close combat" in Hebrew, and that the Israeli Defense Force and Special Forces use the martial art to this day. Apparently, stabbing someone in the hand is kosher in a form that has "no rules."

As known years ago by those who've read the books.
Shit, I just admitted that I've read them.

Don't worry, you're not he only one. Nothing wrong with reading Tom Clancy, his books rule.

I was going to say the same thing until I saw your comment, J. Goodwin...no shame in that, they're actually some of my favorite Non-Clancy Tom Clancy novels.

I was about to say the same thing. Although I still have barely cracked the second one (had it for over a year) and didn't touch the third because people said it was full of spelling errors and stuff.

I haven't read the books but it's been mentioned at least once in every magazine article I've read about Conviction.
Yeah, I read magazines. I'm an old fogey.

My favorite Sam Fisher martial arts move is the "sneak up and throw off ledge" they were showing in the previews :)

Yeah its not new or anything ive known this for years by reading the books. Although I did stop when the 3rd book came out and it switched from a first person narrator to 3rd person. I couldnt stand that.

Krav maga is far from obscure. There are lot of Krav Maga schools out there. Krav Maga was developed by watching a normal persons instinctive reaction to various attacks and developing moves that went on from that reaction so it would be easier to learn.

Joystiq had never heard of the Bugatti Veyron, now they think Krav Maga is obscure ...
I'm beginning to wonder who exactly is writing this stuff now. Next they'll be talking about "obscure action movie star" Chuck Norris.

I'm a fan of the kung-fu meets gun style. Like in Equilibrium.

Not to be internet-tough-guy or anything, but I took Krav Maga for 2 years, and I can attest and it's pure distilled badassery to the core. One of my instructors spent the better part of a session teaching us the best way to stomp the head of a fallen foe.

Badass: The Game please hurry up and come out! This is turning into the new Uncharted 2 for me, looks incredible. I especially love how the devs have focussed on making you feel like a predator like in AA. Not just someone who hides in the shadows from bad dudes.

The Krav Maga scene that stuck out from the Tom Clancy novels was when Sam is in some foreign outback terrain surrounded by a few armed guys. Everyone is really close together. Then somehow Sam busts out some Krav Maga, taking down a couple guys, grabs a gun, shoots one more guy, then opts for the last close combat takedown. It was pretty descriptive and brutal. It proved that before you would think one guy could do it, but afterwards, it was completely plausible.
If given the opportunity once I've found a good career, I'd like to take Krav Maga on the side (along with learning advance driving maneuvers, just for fun). Anyone know a good Krav Maga training group in Canada?
