Perhaps you've heard, but Demon's Souls is a hard game. Like really hard. Like bone-crushingly, soul-scathingly hard. Speaking to Game Informer, Demon's Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki explains why. According to Miyazaki, the difficulty was designed around giving players "a sense of accomplishment," specifically in regard to the soul collecting mechanic. For those who haven't played the game, souls act as currency and you lose all of them upon death. They can be regained, but only if you make it back to your bloodstain without dying twice more. Trust us, it's not as easy as it sounds.
According to Miyazaki, "If the Souls could be recovered anytime, there would be no suspense or sense of accomplishment." He added that he wants players to feel like, "I did it! I made it to my bloodstain!" Of course, Miyazaki fails to mention the sense of utter, despairing failure one feels when they don't make it back to their bloodstain (a frequent occurrence).
Regarding the possibility of a sequel, Miyazaki said he couldn't give a direct answer, but noted that the team learned a great deal on Demon's Souls and there were several things that didn't make it into the game. Given the opportunity, Miyazaki said he would "welcome the chance to create an even better game in the same style." Gluttons for punishment that we are, we'll take it.

ya, he killed a couple of useless guys to me in teh Nexus before I spoke to him again. He says something like "I'm an assassin that killed everyone in Boleteria and there is one left...YOU!" Then he fights you. Should of killed him earlier.

I bought Dragon Age collector's edition over Demon's Souls....
Because DA was available for purchase, unlike DS, none of my local chain-electronics/video stores carry DS !
Hey Atlus - try shipping some more DS to Canada for f'n sakes.

Demon's Souls is fair. You just have to not be a total idiot while playing it and you'll do fine.

I would love to see a sequel for this great game. I'm just about finished with my first play through, just have to start killing the NPCs and then get ready for the final battle before the NG+ begins.

I still need to give this game a try, although I doubt it is as hard as people say. Everyone said that vampire rain was hard and no one liked it due to its difficulty, however I beat the game with ease on both 360 and ps3, loved it too. I love a nice challenge... just need some money to get this game..... >_>

This game is awesome...I think it should be considered as a candidate for game of the year even though it wont win because of the other big titles. I jut wish this game was more popular to create a bigger buzz, it's sad that many people haven't heard of it or are even doubting themselves in buying it. This game is a classic and should get DLC soon. Great Job Atlus.

This game is great. I played uncharted and finished it and havent touched it since. Demons souls I cant put it down, Play it I die and play it again and agian and die over and over, But when im a strike or two from killing a boss my heart beats faster and i sit closer to the screen, If i kill the boss i feel a true sense of achievement and sit back in my seat and my heart beat returns to normal.
So far Ive put in over 30hrs and still cant play it enough, Done eight hrs straight yesterday.
If they make number 2 I dont think i will enjoy the wait until it is released.
For now this is the finest game ive played to date, Been playing since the Atari 2600, Owned almost every console made. And demons souls is number 1.

Man, just get the game. Sell your car if you have to, you wont need the car cos you will be playing demons souls. This game is fine. Its hard in a good way, but it gets easier as you play it over and over and over again.
Just buy it. dont worry about buying food for a week or two.

There are no cheap enemies. If you die, 99% of the time is clearly your fault because you didn't pay attention and bit off more than you could chew. The remaining 1% is usually because you died to someone else in PvP.
Pro-tip:
Don't lock-on and roll when near cliffs or anything that you can fall off from a great height.

People have been thinking that the 6th World might have been cut from the game. It's that World with the broken/crumbled Archstone on the map.
Other than that, the US version basically got all the fixes that prevents people from cheating the game (such as using Plague to kill bosses or hitting the PS button to force-quit the game to prevent a death or even the glitched soul-farming by killing yourself and touching the bloodstain).
The glitched soul-farming had a very specific process involved and the devs were informed of the glitch and patched it. Other than that, it's a very well-coded game that doesn't have any game-breaking bugs (aside from stupidly dying to the Dragon King AFTER you've killed the Dragon King).

Truly a masterpiece of gaming. I welcome a sequel. I never thought I would espouse the greatness of this game when I had my first few attempts. However, the game starts to open up once you learn its rules. After that, you see the sheer deph and it beckons you and beckons you.
Other games look like fodder in comparison. This game actually respects you as a gamer.

Can someone who's played both titles tell me: Is this game like, Monster Hunter hard? Because they both look the same and have similar concepts, and are both considered hard with a steep learning curve. I was just wandering whether this game has enemies that take time to beat and require Monster Hunter like strategy.

It is kind of Monster Hunter hard, but its not cheap like Monster Hunter. (This is from someone who has over 300 hours in Monster Hunter Unite!)

I'm really excited for the sequel and where they can go with it. The risk/reward sensation was definitely strong in my first playthrough of Demon's Souls. Something I just can't say for most games nowadays like a certain persian prince game that came out last year for example.

Forget farming the reapers in 4-2, if you have Black World tendency, go for the manta rays in 4-3/4-4 with Avarice and Storm Ruler equipped. Each drops 2k+, you'll get 200k in no time, suicide/repeat of course. This made the game much more easier than it needed to be, but it did help out with successive play alot.

Reuban and the others on the fence about this game and Dragon Age. (I own and play both)
Dragon Age is a traditional RPG. Good story, same RPG combat, big expansive world, lots of different quests, Cool character interaction. If you are looking for a great traditional RPG experience, then this is your game.
Demon's Souls is a TACTICAL Action RPG. Tactical as in you have to think about every motion that you take. Every sword swing, shield bash, spell cast or roll. A false step will leave you open to attack, and probably a one shot kill. There is little story, though there is some. If there is a flaw to this game it is the story. They had some cool themes going on, but they didn't expand on them. Im sure it was a design call, but still... Favorite boss fight was the one at the end of world 5...suprising and very very cool. So we know the developers can expound on the story if they want to. There is also a little story when you check out the info on unique weapons you pick up.
That being said, it is completely and totally badass. The atmosphere, the awesome online (for me anyway, I hate deathmatch or some 12 year old callling me a dbag), and of course the utterly delicious viseral combat.
So think of what you want. If you want something off the beaten path that is unexplainably addictive and awesome pick Demon's Souls. If you want a tried and true formula and a solid traditional RPG experience then Dragon age is for you. Before playing both, I would have said I want the traditional RPG experience, I love a good story, but I would have been wrong in this instance...
For me personally, Demon's Souls is probably my favorite game this generation.
I hope they don't do a direct sequal. This game is getting alot of the attention that it deserves from its refreshing difficulty and innovation. It goes against everything developers have been trying to do for the last 5 years (make games more accessible and appeal to a wide range of gamers). A "Demon's Souls 2" would lose a step with its originality.
"welcome the chance to create an even better game in the same style."
This is what I want. Something that is like a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls. Take this kind of combat with the steep learning curve and no hand holding, but put it into a solid story (doesn't even have to be great), some cities you can walk around in and NPC's to talk to, then it very welll could be one of the best games ever. (Demon's Souls is in my top 10 best games ever anyway).
Last point that I just want to say again. The fact this game does you no favors and doesn't treat you like a 11 year old kid and refuses to hold you hand (if you tried it would cut it off) is one of my favorite things about this game.

There is a huge story, but it's not just handed to you through the game. You have to seek people out, unlock them from cages, free them from a pit defended by a black phantom and then you speak with them and they tell you parts of the story, convert demon's souls, or sell you things. They give names, and accounts, they tell about how people are related and associated. The more people you talk to the more you realize there is an intricate story at play with all the characters and even the bosses. You can also read about every single item, as it has its own story and will also fill in some of the blanks about the big picture.
Not to mention the voice acting is superb, the music, the sound fx all come together in such a way that it's hard not to be engulfed by the game. It is engaging, and sophisticated; and it requires patience and your undivided attention.

They should add DLC to the first one. They could restore the broken archstone in the Nexus or something.

Demons Souls is ripe for DLC. Those 2 Dragons for example. You kill them and you get 2 souls (Red soul and Blue soul). They do not do anything, but they could add 2 unique weapons as DLC.

I love this game, they better make a sequel or they won't be making it back to their bloodstains!
I'm already on New Game+++ and I'm just about done beating it also, just have to beat the false king again and I'm done the game again! Already soul level 250, I was like, nobody was high as me yet, so I looked at the stats! They are already people leveled at 710 the highest you can go! DOH! But I am almost ranked 37th if I keep farming for pure blade stones again with soul thrist and soul sucker some more.

There were some great dark mature themes about human nature going on in the game, but the developers didnt expound on them. It teased me just enough to get irritated. I wanted more. Again, another testement to how makes you beg for more of it.

Regarding a possible Demon's Souls 2, I got curious about the events previous to the Fog and the Old One, but at the same time i believe that wouldn't be a Nexus and gameplay would have to be severely altered in order to accomodate that.
If only Oblivion had combat and dungeon design as good as Demon's Souls, it would be my perfect RPG.
