EA's new Skate 3 trailer touts team-play as the stand-out addition to the franchise. The new element allows players to tackle challenges and compete against other teams online for popularity within the Skate.Feed community. Of course, it's just as easy to become unpopular, too -- just ask the guy in the short shorts.
EA Black Box is once again handling the development of the game, building on the, um, building features of Skate 2. The studio is working to greatly improve the film maker and skate park editor, as well as adding new features such as an in-game and web-based "social network," plus the ability to seamlessly share parks, board designs and other user-created content a la Forza 3's storefront.
Skate 3 is due in May 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

I've beat Skate 1 and Skate 2 but I've only truly "mastered" Skate 2. I should have the game down by spring though...

The last 2 Skates took forever to get an ounce of info on now EA's dumping it out a lot quicker. I really think this is to take some air out of the Tony Hawk Ride release.
If no one was interested in that game before definitely no one will be if the Skate 3 trailers keep looking better and better...

Another Skate...already?! Didn't the last one, like, *just* come out? You're burning that current-gen goodwill pretty quick there, EA.

I thought the same when I read this... Seems too soon.

May 2010 isn't that quick of a sequel release. At least they aren't going the Activision route and pushing out Guitar Heros every 4 months.

Had the same exact thought. I stopped buying THPS games because of the constant barrage of sequels, I hope that doesn't happen with this franchise.
I still have to work on the first one, it just fell behind some other great titles on my list of games to play. I never played it consistently enough to become completely comfortable with the control scheme. Since I haven't finished that one, I haven't let myself buy Skate 2, and with 3 announced I feel like I'm just falling behind...

Skate 2 straight up sucked. They focussed too much on adding more features. Game was not polished at all. The first game felt so much tighter and more solid. The second game felt like it lost almost all the magic that made the first one so incredible. I still play skate, skate 2 felt like 2 steps forward, 8 steps back. I REALLY hope they can bring back the charming gameplay of the first game because I really need an updated version of skate that holds up to the original

I dunno, i liked the first one the best, the second one didn't really seem to give me the same feel... and it seems like it's of more concern for Black Box to make a game come out every one and a half year, than fixing the god-damned frame-rate of the ps3 version... oh well, guess it's because of the competition

sorry, it's more likely that it's EA that has decided the release schedule... but still, Black Box should have done something about it. Don't go down the Activision road... it's not worth it EA, you've done it before and have been forgiven, i'm not sure we could take the heartache again

yeah skate was definatley the better of the 2, I think they're going down the same route as Tony Hawks. There's only so much you can do with skateboarding. Tony Hawk 2 was best, got 3 and lost interest after that.

They need to work on the clumsy control response of skaters for this one. The first two had some tragic gameplay flaw.

and another NOT THIS TIME for me... i bought the second part already just as a budget title... And now they really start like FIFA and THPS...

I don't know what to say to this game other then it's rushed.
Posted: Nov 6th 2009 10:26AM Spike Spiegel Humble Bounty Hun said
Don't understand why the "rush" comments. Bioshock 2 is taking 1 month longer than skate 2 to 3. Quite a few sequels actually that are around the same length of development. What makes skate so different? It's easier to build off skate 2 to 3 than a game like Bioshock 2 or Assassin's Creed 2, yet they are taking roughly the same amount of time. Are those games rushed too?

Assassin's Creed: Nov 14. 2007
Assassin's Creed 2: Nov 20. 2009
Skate 2: Jan 21. 2009
Skate 3: May 2010
AC - AC2 = 2 years
Skate 2 - Skate 3 = 1 year and 4 months
see the difference? 1 year and 4 months is actually the same time between Skate and Skate 2... And yes, out of experience i would have to say that is rushed.

So AC2 has a bit more to work off of, but still there are many others. Like I said Bioshock 2.
Bioshock = August 2008
Bioshock 2 = February 9th 2009
Bioshock 1 -2 = 1 Year 5 Months.
It's pretty well all the same with game development. I don't hear Bioshock 2 being a rushed game.

Fuck you, you dirty bitch. I made a mistake over dates. Cry me a
river, build a bridge, and get the fuck over it. Couldn't just be
nice and simply correct a mistake. Instead you have to try and be
cool to make up for your own short comings in life. Grow up.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of a sequel. I found Skate 2 to be very enjoyable. I didn't feel it was rushed. To me it's hard to feel a game is rushed when we have 19 installments of guitar hero in a matter of 3 years.

It would be a lot nicer if they had gone back and finished the second game instead of putting out a new one.

I'd say they need to update the graphics a bit, it looks like the graphics were downgraded in this, the truck they grind on looks horrible. Seriously, it can look much better than this.

Skate 2 sucked (in my opinion). And damn, EA... Skate is now one of those games that are released every year with like, more of the same? ¬¬

looks the same. that said, i'll be picking it up. hopefully they switch out the ridiculous 360 inward heels and hardflips with impossibles.

Skate was great when it came out. After playing Skate 2 I couldn't go back. More flow to the animations, more tricks, and a way better campaign / online aspect. The only thing I enjoyed more with Skate than Skate 2 is the world. The second was half new stuff, half old stuff... But somehow they took out the fun of finding a new spot or just skating from point A to B. Skate felt like it was an actual city, while Skate 2 feels far less real and more generated. Overall though I greatly prefer skate 2.
I'm... Not at all excited for this one though. It's not that it's too soon, but that the direction they're taking seems less realistic. The hang time on the tricks is absurd, and grinding across shit like a bulldozer feels like something out of jackass or the Tony Hawk series. Soon you'll be doing 900's off of a speed bump into grinds on helicopters if they keep going this direction.
