Video: 15 days in GTA IV's Liberty City
Time lapse videos were all the rage back in -- actually, we don't think they were ever rage caliber stuff, but in the case of this GTA IV video that shows 15 days go by Liberty City, it's at least reached "oh, that's neat!" territory. The video comes courtesy of DigitalFoundry (you can watch it over at Eurogamer) and reminds us just how much life there is in the virtual sand box, as cars drive along to their respective destinations, pedestrians shuffle about doing their own thing and, in the case of that one lady around the 32-second mark, loaf around the riverside all day and night. We just hope she's not doing what we think she's doing. It'd be such an unbecoming thing of the purest city in all of gaming, amirite?

What a majestic and peaceful city.
Muckrak3r @ Nov 6th 2009 8:08AM
At the 50 second mark.... The two smoke stacks are blowing the opposite way of the clouds.
Daniel @ Nov 6th 2009 12:54PM
The GTA phone's service provider must be AT&T for its reception to fluctuate so much standing in one place.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 1:06AM
Even with all of it's faults, I'm kinda craving some GTAIV now...
And that Tekken 6 ad before the video has me somewhat interested.
Well played, Eurogamer.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 6th 2009 1:07AM
Yeah, that actually is pretty damn cool.
Dave @ Nov 6th 2009 1:11AM
Reinforces its place as one of the best games of all time.
Solace @ Nov 6th 2009 1:41AM

kojo87 @ Nov 6th 2009 1:46AM
San Andreas was so much better
Dan Davis @ Nov 6th 2009 1:55AM

CheeziePotato @ Nov 6th 2009 1:58AM
San Andreas was so much better and bigger.

rusty123 (PSN) @ Nov 6th 2009 2:10AM
Agreed
Freedom Town @ Nov 6th 2009 9:46AM
San Andreas was a lot better then GTA:4
Actually GTA:4 was the most lackluster of all the GTA games. Who cares about better graphics if the game isn't as good.
Platinum_Skeet @ Nov 6th 2009 10:44AM
@Freedom Town
I think the reason why people think GTAIV's so lackluster is because some people were expecting the city to be larger, instead GTA IV made the game more of a complete package so they can have a good base to build the sequels. But GTAIV is nowhere near disappointing.
GTA IV broke a lot of grounds for this Gen. It set the bar for graphics, A.I, physics and various other things. Before GTA IV came out there were a lot of o.k games coming out that we as gamers settled for because there was no "bar" for what a game should be before GTA IV. After GTA IV came out with a massive sandbox cover system almost off of everything, A.I NPC's on a massive scale that acted more lifelike than we ever seen and graphicly more impressive than any other game that came out around that time. GTA IV was the complete package for this gen.
If you really think about it what game comes close to the realism GTAIV displays. There's none close. Just think about the little touches that games have yet to copy from GTA. From going down stairs to how NPC's interact in the world. GTA IV to me seems to be a game that's ahead of it's time and there's no way I feel that it's a "lackluster". It's just games are coming out so fast and so quick this Gen to keep playing online with friends we sometimes forget what makes our good game "good" to begin with.
I really felt the same way until I picked up TLAD DLC and saw everything months after GTAIV came out that have yet to be mimicked. Now I'm playing through BOGT DLC and still there's a ton that I see where GTA IV is a truly a technical feat that no game has yet to get close to.
Extinction @ Nov 6th 2009 1:17AM
Can we PLEASE have somewhere new? How many games have they had in this city?
PS2/XBOX, PSP (stories), GBA, DS/PSP (chinatown), PS3/PC/360 (IV) and now this.
How about a futuristic GTA?
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 6th 2009 1:19AM
Crackdown?
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 1:26AM
Well, we had a past GTA (Fable II).
Don't believe me? You can nail prostitutes, steal anything, kill anyone, take out criminals and take their place, kill kids...and you even have Muttley along for the ride!
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 1:27AM
All it was missing was jumping...
0.5/10
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 6th 2009 1:30AM
you couldn't kill kids in Gta or Fable
brian @ Nov 6th 2009 1:31AM
futuristic GTA?
would that really be GTA?
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 1:48AM
You could kill kids in Fable II prior to one of the patches.
Extinction @ Nov 6th 2009 1:53AM
Crackdown was awesome in so many ways
CheeziePotato @ Nov 6th 2009 2:17AM

pibs @ Nov 6th 2009 2:40AM

Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Nov 6th 2009 8:50AM
Yeah, I really don't think it would be a good idea to pull a, GTA.....IN SPACE!!!!!!! move. I don't think it would work as well.
uncle jesse @ Nov 6th 2009 9:15AM
If GTA in Space = Alien prostitutes
Count me in.
Caveman @ Nov 6th 2009 1:19AM
That was totally amazing.
It seems very realistic.
brian @ Nov 6th 2009 1:26AM
are you saying that you have never played the gaming sensation that is gta4!?
Are you living in a cave or somet...
nvm
Caveman @ Nov 6th 2009 1:56AM
I've played it. I've experienced it the best way possible, on the Xbox 360 of course.
When you're playing the game I don't always notice how alive Liberty City really is.
RogerFH @ Nov 6th 2009 2:02AM
Me too, i'm always too busy jumping off an helicopter (damn, Euphoria is amazing! I love to commit suicide on GTA IV)
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 2:10AM
By "best way possible" I assume you mean PC.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 6th 2009 1:20AM
Advertisements are tough.
fffunfarm06 @ Nov 6th 2009 1:26AM
okay, hear me out...
everyone could tell that gtaIV doesnt look even close what new york looks like over the passing day. they're the same amount of car flow throughout the entire day, the planes that work 24 hours, or gangs of city folk just walking out at 3 in the morning. if they fixed that, the game would have gotten another .1 to their .95 metacritic.
fuck im high
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 1:28AM
Umm...their metacritic score is 98, not 95. I really doubt that minor issue caused them to lose an entire percentage point.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Nov 6th 2009 1:30AM
fuck you're high
brian @ Nov 6th 2009 1:39AM
Fuck, i think that guy might be high
Ombre @ Nov 6th 2009 1:49AM
You've obviously never been to Manhattan past midnight.
kojo87 @ Nov 6th 2009 1:49AM
.95 + .1 = 1.05
are you suggesting this game get a 105%? high is right lol
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 6th 2009 1:49AM
Obvious troll is obvious...
fffunfarm06 @ Nov 6th 2009 1:57AM
wow cut me some slack kojo i meant 9.5 and add .1 but it got an 98 so nevermind.
kojo87 @ Nov 6th 2009 1:59AM
i know what you meant. its just funny. you know cuz you're high lol
fffunfarm06 @ Nov 6th 2009 2:13AM
