Time lapse videos were all the rage back in -- actually, we don't think they were ever rage caliber stuff, but in the case of this GTA IV video that shows 15 days go by Liberty City, it's at least reached "oh, that's neat!" territory. The video comes courtesy of DigitalFoundry (you can watch it over at Eurogamer) and reminds us just how much life there is in the virtual sand box, as cars drive along to their respective destinations, pedestrians shuffle about doing their own thing and, in the case of that one lady around the 32-second mark, loaf around the riverside all day and night. We just hope she's not doing what we think she's doing. It'd be such an unbecoming thing of the purest city in all of gaming, amirite?

The GTA phone's service provider must be AT&T for its reception to fluctuate so much standing in one place.

San Andreas was a lot better then GTA:4
Actually GTA:4 was the most lackluster of all the GTA games. Who cares about better graphics if the game isn't as good.

@Freedom Town
I think the reason why people think GTAIV's so lackluster is because some people were expecting the city to be larger, instead GTA IV made the game more of a complete package so they can have a good base to build the sequels. But GTAIV is nowhere near disappointing.
GTA IV broke a lot of grounds for this Gen. It set the bar for graphics, A.I, physics and various other things. Before GTA IV came out there were a lot of o.k games coming out that we as gamers settled for because there was no "bar" for what a game should be before GTA IV. After GTA IV came out with a massive sandbox cover system almost off of everything, A.I NPC's on a massive scale that acted more lifelike than we ever seen and graphicly more impressive than any other game that came out around that time. GTA IV was the complete package for this gen.
If you really think about it what game comes close to the realism GTAIV displays. There's none close. Just think about the little touches that games have yet to copy from GTA. From going down stairs to how NPC's interact in the world. GTA IV to me seems to be a game that's ahead of it's time and there's no way I feel that it's a "lackluster". It's just games are coming out so fast and so quick this Gen to keep playing online with friends we sometimes forget what makes our good game "good" to begin with.
I really felt the same way until I picked up TLAD DLC and saw everything months after GTAIV came out that have yet to be mimicked. Now I'm playing through BOGT DLC and still there's a ton that I see where GTA IV is a truly a technical feat that no game has yet to get close to.

Well, we had a past GTA (Fable II).
Don't believe me? You can nail prostitutes, steal anything, kill anyone, take out criminals and take their place, kill kids...and you even have Muttley along for the ride!

I've played it. I've experienced it the best way possible, on the Xbox 360 of course.
When you're playing the game I don't always notice how alive Liberty City really is.

okay, hear me out...
everyone could tell that gtaIV doesnt look even close what new york looks like over the passing day. they're the same amount of car flow throughout the entire day, the planes that work 24 hours, or gangs of city folk just walking out at 3 in the morning. if they fixed that, the game would have gotten another .1 to their .95 metacritic.
fuck im high

Umm...their metacritic score is 98, not 95. I really doubt that minor issue caused them to lose an entire percentage point.

This video reminds me that GTAIV might have worked better as beautiful tech demo rather than a successor to San Andreas in terms of straight up "fun".
GTAV I'm ready for you to be that game.

Man, this almost makes me want to break my Borderlands addiction for some Liberty City love! NO! 19 more levels! Well, if anyone needs some gaming filler for 4 days, I don't think you can do much better than GTA4. Now that $50 millions gone and spent (F- XCLUSIVE ADD ONS!) maybe we can see some real DLC! Win/Win4R*
