Dragon Age: Origins gets patched, tool set released
The still-fresh PC version of Dragon Age: Origins recently got a huge booster shot in two delicious flavors. The first came in the form of Patch v1.01a, which, in addition to fixing a few character corruption issues and display glitches, makes the game easier as a whole. The second, much beefier improvement came with the release of the Dragon Age: Origins tool set, which allows users to create their own adventures using the game's extremely adaptable (and powerful!) engine.
Check out the tool set's capabilities in the trailer posted above. To acquire these modding tools -- or the difficulty-reducing patch -- check out the links below.

YAY
Urza @ Nov 8th 2009 4:25PM
Not Yay.. why doesn't the built in downloader download the patch.
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 7th 2009 7:24PM
It's so nice when developers have at least some level of respect and support for the PC.
IGLAW @ Nov 7th 2009 7:27PM
"difficulty-reducing"
THANK THE MAKER
freaparn @ Nov 7th 2009 11:32PM
Yeah, my mage was getting ass-handed at a ridiculous frequency ever since I got out of the Circle tower. The warriors in my party are too low for aggro control, my mage's damage is ridiculous due to my "glass cannon" approach to character building, and the result is that I spend the first fifteen seconds of the fight cracking heads and the last 45 seconds staring at the ceiling until the melee guys mop up the survivors and scrape me off the floor tile. Not terribly fun, I'm afraid.
Hopefully they didn't just tone down the damage/health of enemies, as I could've managed that by opting for Easy mode...
Huey2k2 @ Nov 7th 2009 11:51PM
Why do so many people suck at this game?
I am past redcliffe in the storyline and I rarely have characters die in combat, you just need to play smart. Freeze enemies and crit them to shatter them. Get a rotation going for your stuns, especially AoE stuns. Crowd control in DAO is vital.
Napsterking @ Nov 8th 2009 1:16AM
Maker be with you!
Candlejack @ Nov 8th 2009 2:53PM
My biggest problem with mages was mana, but healthwise my party got good after I got Wynne.
Huey2k2 @ Nov 8th 2009 8:31PM
I got voted down because people suck at this game.
How bizarre.
RKN @ Nov 7th 2009 7:31PM
Thank you Bioware for giving the PC the respect it deserves unlike another company that shall remain nameless.
Now I can't help but wish for a toolset to come for the PC version of Mass Effect 2.
Dracard @ Nov 7th 2009 8:22PM
Surely you mean Gearbox? Sure are taking their sweet time patching that PC version of Borderlands, which might I add, was delayed for a week for supposed optimization and was surely supposed to be the best version of the three as it was developed specifically for the platform.
:)
Dracard @ Nov 7th 2009 8:24PM
I sound like a dick, yeah, but come on, some of the stuff is bullshit. Nearly two weeks later and it still cannot play stable for me.
Orchard Pear @ Nov 7th 2009 8:30PM
Strange.. my console version plays just fine..
Oh well. :)
Stridery @ Nov 7th 2009 10:27PM
Must be something with your system. My Borderland copy has been working flawlessly. May want to check your system drivers.
Riley @ Nov 8th 2009 2:01AM
I think he was talking about.. oh wait he said nameless.
Let's just say it rhymes with "Infinity War"

"for giving the PC the respect it deserves"
The PC doesn't deserve respect as the PC is a manufactured product, a tool, created for the benefit of human beings. You give people respect, not products. All in all, such ill-thought out statements indicate a slight detachment from the day to day travails of real life and, even worse, an irregular attachment to a cold machine. What's next? You'll notify teh common reader on how you converted your beige box to resemble something akin to a Love Plus love machine? It's sad, and your constant wailing about the PC as a gaming platform is making the site harder to read.
You know, some people should treat the internet like a magazine.
Kevin949 @ Nov 8th 2009 10:55AM
Oh please dude. The respect it deserves? If I'm not mistaken, I believe that most consoles get the red-headed step child treatment when it comes to games that are on the PC as well as consoles. Except for valves games, vavle completely shafted the console orange box owners (as of last time I checked) by not patching or doing anything with it, especially TF2. So please forgive me if I can't help but scoff slightly at your comment as if PC's have been ousted from gaming all together or something.
RKN @ Nov 8th 2009 12:17PM
I can't fucking believe I am hearing this from you guys. The PC has been getting shafted far more often than consoles by publishers and developers, I venture most of you do not own PCs so you don't understand. We have to put up with all this talk of PC gaming dying each fucking year, you never hear that about consoles do you?
RKN @ Nov 8th 2009 12:21PM
"I believe that most consoles get the red-headed step child treatment when it comes to games that are on the PC as well as consoles."
LOLOLOL.
Bull-FUCKING-Shit. Look at all the multiplatform games that are being delayed on the PC months later such as Assassins Creed 2, Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, etc. Look at how Activision has treated the PC version of Modern Warfare 2. Look at the many multiplatform games which receive collector's editions on the consoles but not PC, Arkham Asylum, Rainbow 6: Vegas, GTA4, etc.
Alan Wake was first shown on the PC years ago and thanks to lovely old Microsoft, will probably only come to the 360 now.
And you fuckers are complaining you get treated badly? You have the GALL to do that!? Far as I know, only Valve puts consoles as an afterthought, pretty much everybody else is vice versa.
faemir @ Nov 7th 2009 7:34PM
Much the opposite of MW2. Thankyou, Bioware.
Orchard Pear @ Nov 7th 2009 7:38PM
Well, good.
Maybe that'll dry up some of the PC gamer tears, and we can have some peace and quiet for a change.
RKN @ Nov 7th 2009 7:48PM
You are not a PC gamer, and I know you don't care for it at all, so you have no idea what they are even complaining about.
Marmot @ Nov 7th 2009 8:20PM
As a PC gamer I can say that I'm getting tired of the whole furore.
Collymilad @ Nov 7th 2009 9:12PM
Haha. Indeed, indeed.
Cheesus Crust @ Nov 7th 2009 8:22PM
YES! PC Only news! I never thought the day would come!
And thanks for this, been too lazy to download.
Mongo @ Nov 7th 2009 9:40PM
I'm having problems with this patch though. After I installed it, I can't even press play anymore.... WTF
carmaction @ Nov 7th 2009 10:45PM
I was having the same problem, but if you download the x86 update on this website it fixes it. Well, it fixed it for me, at least:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2&displaylang=en
It's a security update for C++. I mean... duh?! Who DOESN'T think to update C++ when a game isn't running? Right?
Tony @ Nov 8th 2009 11:41AM
Unplayable for me 2 after the patch. The play button wouldn't work. The sysconfig tool ran but also had no option to play either. I had to reinstall before I could play again.
carmaction @ Nov 7th 2009 10:35PM
I love patches that make your game completely unplayable.
If I have to uninstall and play an unpatched version to fix this... I'm gonna throw a tantrum that will solve nothing. Just you watch. I'll do it.
fred @ Nov 7th 2009 11:44PM
NO! YOU HAVE SO MUCH TO LIVE FOR DON'T DO IT
Huey2k2 @ Nov 7th 2009 11:57PM
Your game is unplayable?
Mine works just fine...
carmaction @ Nov 8th 2009 2:16AM
OH MY GOD! CONGRATULATIONS!
What's wrong with people? It WAS unplayable, but I found a security update for C++ that resolved the issue. "Yours isn't working? Well, mine is, so neener neener neener." Freakin' douche.
iHavepants {SteamPSN: Arkanti} @ Nov 8th 2009 7:39AM
u mad?
Misfit Toy @ Nov 8th 2009 12:12AM
The 360 version could use a music audio glitch fix.
Xenuxenu @ Nov 8th 2009 1:25AM
As a PC gamer I'm getting tired of all these entitled bitches that's being associated with my main platform. You will not see console owners bitching and whining why they're not getting a toolset to create their own adventures. And yes it can be done, you can easily enable mouse and keyboard on consoles just like what Unreal Tournament III did.
Azerael @ Nov 8th 2009 1:32AM
As a person living in America, I am getting tired of all these entitled bitches being associated with my main country. You do not see the People's Republic of China bitching about having their rights taken away.
Hint to Xenuxenu: Why would they bitch about something they've never had in the first place?
zodduska @ Nov 8th 2009 1:59AM
You sound retarded, do you by any chance work for Infinity Ward?
Steam:Lennoko| Whats PC Gaming? @ Nov 8th 2009 10:28AM
You mad?
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 8th 2009 10:55AM
@Azerael
Wow did you just bring politics into videogames? Not only that did you compare what IW is doing to PC players to what the Chinese government does to their people? Overreacting much?
Steam:Lennoko| Whats PC Gaming? @ Nov 8th 2009 11:09AM
I thought his comparison was clever, and im sure it wasnt meant to spark any Political debate.
RKN @ Nov 8th 2009 12:39PM
Considering how many developers and publishers wouldn't care much for PC gaming dying, why don't they enable more mouse/keyboard support and mods for games to drive more nails into the PC's coffin? The console makers don't like it?
Aerothorn @ Nov 8th 2009 6:02AM
Wait....isn't easy mode supposed to be ridiculously easy? Why are they making it EASIER?
iHavepants {SteamPSN: Arkanti} @ Nov 8th 2009 7:09AM
Because the people who play on easy are really bad at games.
Ark Angel @ Nov 8th 2009 3:01PM
Damn.. Knew Ishould've bought the PC version of this game.. I loved Neverwinter's toolset.
Oh well :(
Fillem @ Nov 8th 2009 3:54PM
So, any people that have experience or fiddled about with the toolset? How is it? User friendly?
Hibiscus @ Nov 8th 2009 7:24PM
The nerf to Normal difficulty is more than welcome. I spent nearly an hour the other night trying to get past a random encounter of wolves.
Seriously, Dragon Age's wolves make the darkspawn horde look like a bunch of ninnies in comparison.
MikeO. @ Nov 9th 2009 12:11PM
I got stuck on a pack of the dogs in Redcliff castle. Malibri? Whatever they're called. The trick to beating them was to simply funnel them in a door so I only had to fight a couple at a time. Otherwise, they had my team wiped in under 10 seconds on normal difficulty, it was ridiculous.
DCD @ Nov 9th 2009 3:23AM
A quality game, takes forever to play through, has immense replay value, no wretched DRM, support for PC... worth every penny you should be paying to play it!
