It was bad enough when Valve enabled pre-loading of the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, forcing potential zombicidal maniacs to stare at the game they have and yet don't for an entire madness-inspiring weekend. Now, the developer has begun allowing pre-loading of the full version of Left 4 Dead 2 through Steam. If you've pre-purchased the game through Valve's digital distribution platform (which still nets you a 10 percent discount off the price of the title), you can now put it on your computer, and just ... let it sit there until it finally unlocks on November 17.
In the immortal words of Tom Petty, the waiting truly is the hardest part. Except for the zombie apocalypse. We suppose that part is pretty difficult as well.

i don't hate zombies but i don't get why people obsess with them, they wish for a world apocalypse of a bunch of walking dead people, and not just in a video game, i mean they REALLY REALLY wish it happened IRL... because as you all know they think they will be the last survivor ever because playing L4D trains them to be tough.
i just generally hate those people, or any retard who would buy anything because it has "Zombies" on it

I don't like zombies, they seem pretty lame, so I'm totally passing this
I don't see why valve don't just release it now, everything is finished! there's been so much hype I don't see what they are waiting for.

Well then you're in luck! There are no zombies in Left 4 Dead. They have infected, and the infected differ from zombies in one key way. Zombies don't run.

I've heard the characters in L4D 1&2 call the "infected" zombies. There are different kinds of zombies from different fictions. There isn't a zombie standard that they have to always be slow.

Umm yeah there is, Romero said zombies don't run, so they don't. He created the zombie horror subgenre so zombies don't run sir. In fact when whatever director it was got the rights to remake one of his movies he expressed his distaste for the inclusion of "running zombies" which is in and of itself absurd because as you many know.. Zombies don't run.

@Silicon Siren
Romero popularized the modern concept of zombies in cinema, but he didn't create anything in regards to the subject itself. The term "zombie", the concept of the walking dead, and zombie movies in general pre-date both Romero's film and his birth. Lovecraft, Seabrook, Halperin, hell, even the original 1,001 Arabian Nights, a one thousand year-old collection of stories, all utilized the concept of humans turned into the flesh-eating walking dead before Romero did. Although to be fair, until vodou became more well known around the 1930s the common use term was "ghoul" rather than "zombie", but the creatures acted in the traditional manner.
Keep in mind that Romero was born in 1940, and it's inarguably a ridiculous claim to make. He can say anything he wants about how the zombies in his own films work, but he's no authority on the subject matter or genre in general, as he simply isn't responsible for their creation.

We've got some edgy, hip people folks. Nothing to see here except people who hate anything that is even remotely popular.

You're right. Now I need to find 3 other people to play this with. How about Francis, Louis, and Zoey (Bill died).

I got it in a 4 pack. For $33, it's a bargain. Everyone talked about how it should have been DLC for the first game, but at $33 it's probably cheaper than it would have been as 5 separate dlc campaigns. And you can kill zombies with guitars!

Preloads are awesome, but I is confused. In essence, it's downloading the entire game, correct? However, you still need authentication which comes on launch day, right?
I'm having a hard time believing someone hasn't been able to hack the game to work before launch day. Or, has that happened at least once already?

They let you pre-load like 9x% of the game's content, with some critical files missing or encrypted. One launch day, you'll be downloading those missing files.

Pretty sure that didn't happen for the orange box or L4D 1, so I doubt they really need to worry about it.

You could probably hack the encryption, but it would take much, much longer than the time you'd have to wait for the game to unlock.

Smart move but that's pretty torturous! Having to wait 10 days to play? Geeez
Still on the fence whether I will get L4D2. I loved the first one... For about two weeks. I thought it was really fun but the random zombie waves didn't add much replay value for me and the vs mode wasn't my cup of tea. Not sure if I can justify buying this one and probably going through it just as fast. Maybe it will be a Christmas present if I can't think of anything else to ask for.
