Tales of Vesperia voice actor says game is coming to Wii [update: Oops! He meant Tales of Graces!]
[Update: Abyssal Chronicles has updated their story, reporting that Mr. Koyama has updated his original blog post with the following clarification: "When I mentioned being on sale for the Wii, I meant Tales of Graces, and not Tales of Vesperia! I truly apologize to everyone for the misunderstanding!!!!" Well, we can see how that would be confusing. You'll find our original post below.]
Lock the doors and board up the windows, folks. Considering the seismic backlash to the announcement that the (formerly) 360-exclusive Tales of Vesperia would be coming to the PS3, we fear for what might happen when this story gets out. Japanese voice actor Rikiya Koyama, who provided the voice for Vesperia's pseudo-antagonist Duke, recently mentioned on his blog that, "Tales of Vesperia is coming out on one thing after another: Xbox 360, then PS3, and now upcoming, goes on sale even on the Wii."
While this may deeply excite RPG-loving Wii owners, keep in mind that it's entirely possible Koyama meant to say Tales of Graces, the franchise's next installment which is, in fact, coming to the Wii. Just think about that before you start snapping the pieces of your already-snapped 360 Vesperia disc in protest. Those edges can get pretty sharp.

I'd take that over the last Symphonia game or the Tales of Grace.
(Avoids angry fanboys)
INNUENDO 64 @ Nov 7th 2009 6:28PM
do you mean last tales of symphonia as in the original for the gamecube or the sequel?
Vincent @ Nov 7th 2009 6:31PM
The "sequel"/re-hash. I mean it was good, but more meh than enjoyable.
PersianSpice @ Nov 7th 2009 6:46PM
Why Tales of Graces?
iofthestorm @ Nov 7th 2009 11:09PM
Hmm, I played Tales of Phantasia a few years back and ever since have been wanting to play another Tales game. I assume the original Symphonia is pretty good, right? I need to find a copy of it some time and play it.
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 3:50PM
you sound like you already played tales of graces.
care to share info on where to grab a copy? or try a demo?
Mr Khan @ Nov 7th 2009 5:45PM
Bandai-Namco lost money this past year, right? They might be into this to recoup some of those losses, if they didn't feel they accumulated enough sales with the multiplat release (though it's well over half a million between the two, should be enough for a game like that)
Symphonia 2, which was supposed to be rather mediocre by Tales standards, did sell almost as much as Vesperia, supposed to be much better, at least when Vesperia was bound to the Xbox, so they know there's definitely an audience there.
Jinsenken @ Nov 7th 2009 6:13PM
I own a PS3 and a Wii, but no 360. Either way, I just want the damn game already. Localize it and you've got my purchase.
fuzzynyanko @ Nov 7th 2009 6:19PM
I played Vesperia on the 360, and it's a fine example of a Tales game. I wonder if they are going to try porting the game engine over for further Tales games
Aaroniero Arruruerie @ Nov 7th 2009 6:23PM
Oh no sempai, this is bad really bad, oh what to do yah yah
RKN @ Nov 7th 2009 7:32PM
Go move to Japan you spawn of Sprinkles.
Ashitaka @ Nov 7th 2009 7:43PM
You've been watching too much Naruto lately.
SoshiKitai @ Nov 7th 2009 9:58PM
Dude, the Japanese would find you ignorant and offensive~ Japan would never accept you.

I guess he's not wanted anywhere.
I can see why.

let's send him to Antarctica.
oh wait, penguins have feelings too. i can't do that to them...
Anti-Villian @ Nov 8th 2009 6:18AM
As if the japanese would care, they would just see him as another fat american wanker who will buy all their shit in his isolate desperation.
Michael @ Nov 7th 2009 6:31PM
this does not please me
BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam] @ Nov 7th 2009 7:06PM
Good for you. Don't buy it.
Tha0racle @ Nov 7th 2009 6:33PM
Why would anyone care if the game is ported to the Wii? I mean to say why would anyone be mad about that?
Rob S. @ Nov 7th 2009 6:44PM
It's the Wii, people get angry at it for everything.
S. Tiger @ Nov 7th 2009 6:47PM
Because it will be a cruddy port of the 360 version with probably a lack of content and no DLC?
Arrowned @ Nov 7th 2009 6:55PM
As if we honestly need more "spend $10 bucks on a new alternate outfit" DLC.
Roto13 @ Nov 7th 2009 7:03PM
More like ´´spend x bucks to gain ten levels.´´
BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam] @ Nov 7th 2009 7:06PM
Aside from the graphics, is there really anything in Vesperia that the Wii couldn't do?
DLC? Wii has DLC (Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Animal Crossing, etc.). And was there really any worthwhile DLC in Vesperia, anyways?
Don't like it? Don't buy it. Stop getting mad at video games.
Suichimo @ Nov 7th 2009 9:39PM
Hell, Tales of Graces has DLC from what I know.
bm @ Nov 8th 2009 10:35AM
For me, lack of DLC is a plus rather than a negative. Means the developers made the game as complete as it can be at launch, and when I take it out some years later to replay it, it will still all be there right on the disk. In fact, I'm rather disappointed to hear Tales of Graces will have it. Is this confirmed?
DLC and patches have not added anything to gaming, they have merely made developers content to release buggy and incomplete games on consoles, like they have on the PC for years. There is no arguing this fact, because it is the undeniable nature of corporations.
ColorblindMonk @ Nov 7th 2009 7:19PM
It's a rare occasion down to a miracle that a PS3/360 port does a decent job on the Wii. I already have the game, but I don't have very much high hopes for it on the Wii.
Dv8thwonder @ Nov 7th 2009 9:19PM
Namco shot themselves in the foot by ignoring the Wii userbase and now they want us to bail them out? No dice.

bm @ Nov 8th 2009 9:42AM
Uhh, darth, mentioning SC Legends and ToS2 does nothing to help your point, in fact, quite the contrary. Those games shows exactly how they've been fucking the wii userbase over.
Obi-Habby @ Nov 8th 2009 11:37AM
Pac-Man Carnival??? Sign me up!
samfish [wants to know: do midgets have night vision?] @ Nov 8th 2009 11:57AM
The only game actually worth a damn on that list is Taiko no Tatsujin. Maybe Fragile and Klonoa, but that's debatable. Everything else is either shovelware or a budget release.
BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam] @ Nov 8th 2009 1:24PM
What I would do for another US release of Taiko Drum Master...
And for Konami to do a real US Beatmania... and while we're at it, Pop 'n Music...
The Klonoa Wii remake is definitely a good game. Even for the $30 new price tag, it's worth it (but if you have a Fry's Electronics nearby, get it from there; they have it discounted to about $12).
Fragile... I've heard good things about it. And while Namco isn't bringing it to us, at least XSEED is. It has been renamed to Fragile Dreams, though. I'm guessing that will also change the pronunciation of it from Italian (frah-JEE-lay) to English (frah-JUL),
And I've heard a lot of good things about Sky Crawlers. Flight games have never been my cup of tea, but I might give that one a try.
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 3:55PM
what amusses me more, is the fact that Wii is the perfect house for onrails games, just look at house of the dead 2&3 return, resident evil: umbrella chronicles, dark side chronicles and overkill (i'm no counting dead space. Its and awesome game, yeah, but it would had been even more awesomer being a TPS with true cooperative gameplay) and yet, they refuse to bring us a museum of Time Crisis to us.
For gods sake, Wii want TIME CRISIS!!!!!!!! Dont beef up graphics, just make it work with Wii architecture!!!!!!!!!
BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam] @ Nov 8th 2009 8:56PM
Yeah, that puzzles me, too.
A Time Crisis Collection (1-4, Crisis Zone, etc.) for Wii. With optional support for the Balance Board to replicate the pedal. That would be perfect.
Diodax @ Nov 7th 2009 11:01PM
I already have both a Wii and a 360, so I'm getting the 360 version anyways because its already out by now... but those are good news still for Wii owners, more platforms = better for us
Wardo @ Nov 8th 2009 12:50AM
In any case Tales of Vesperia was a great game and the more people who play it, the better. As long as they don't make a half-assed port of course.
Zorak000 @ Nov 8th 2009 11:54AM
I am fairly certain he meant Tales of Graces. ToV PS3 at least made sense. this does not.
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 3:58PM
Its good to see they are giving us wii userbase more games to play, but still i'm getting ps3 version.
My ps3 needs more love and more jrpgs, now, if they add more content to the wii game, i might grab that one also un the long run as i'm grabbing tales of grace for wii.
I'm gonna laugh though if wii version has more content and maybe ps3 version has some bugs that come fixed on wii version, that migth put things like this
360: alpha
PS3: beta
Wii: final
xDDDDDDDD
that'd be epic, xDDDDD
S. Tiger @ Nov 8th 2009 5:59PM
*Cough*
You don't know how big a Blu-ray disc is, do you...
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 6:24PM
*cough* you dont know about compression do you???? *cough*
besides, who confirms that vesperia fills the 25gb a single layer blue ray can handle. remember one thing, this games was first released on 360. And guess what, bout Wii and 360 uses the same DVD compact disc to store the game data!!!!!!
S. Tiger @ Nov 8th 2009 8:25PM
The Wii version wouldn't have near as much content as the PS3 version does, and the processing capabilities of the Wii aren't that great in comparison to the 360.
If you're going to go on about compression, though, take MP3s into account. They are by far the shittiest quality audio format. The more you compress something, the worse it becomes. It won't be a good port.
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 8:55PM
Wii version would use less polycount models, lower resolution textures and about audio, they could alway go ogg which could compress any mp3 to even more than 70% withouth losing quality. Ever wondered what audio format does the guitar hero games use??? ogg
given that, the size of thing would be less, meaning what enters on a dvd for 360, on wii would take a lot less of space, leaving a lot of free space to add more content. and that withouth going for data compression, which, by tha way, compression its not about loosing quality, its about making the size of a file lower and when needed its decompresed into memory. Ever wondered why do we need ram memory when we already have hard drive??? take a guess
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 8:56PM
ok, this was supposed to be a reply yo my previous post......
talking about improving the comment system, xDDDDDDDDD
S. Tiger @ Nov 8th 2009 8:59PM
I give up. You know absolutely nothing.
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 9:00PM
nice way of saying "i cant prove you wrong"
JBGUY2K @ Nov 8th 2009 9:27PM
Hmmm... you seem to be chockfull of information regarding how computers, and henceforth how video game systems seem to work. So, tell us oh great CJLopez. What DO we have RAM when we already have a hard drive?
Could it be because processing ANYTHING from a hard drive would take nearly forever? As to where uncompressed, RAW data is temporarily stored on the RAM for near instantaneous processing?
The Wii's DVDs can store as much as the 360's DVDs. However, if what you're wanting to have is have all of the enormous new media content of the PS3, you're largely mistaken. Audio compression does indeed count for quality loss, like it or not. The graphical items, however, may also need to be lowered in quality so that it abides to the Wii's hardware limitations.
Please note that the Wii has much lower RAM capability than that of the 360 or the PS3. Nay, it is minuscule compared to those. One of the biggest smacks to the face for the Wii is going to be the resolution of the textures to be used in the graphics. To make the game run the fastest, they have to use raw data as opposed to compressed textures because it takes off stress from the processor for each frame drawn as decompressing compressed data takes more cycles than is necessary at times.
Listen, the whole process behind making, compiling, then finally running a game on a system is a whole lot more complicated than it seems. Just know that from what you have shown here, you don't seem to know much about it. Go to school and learn a bit more about what programmers have to go through when creating a game within certain limits of a system. You'll see how much harder it is than it seems.
S. Tiger @ Nov 8th 2009 9:30PM
Hey look, I was right!
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 9:46PM
lol, we are fighting over something it hasnt been confirmed, xDDDDDD
@JBGUY2K: been there doing that. right now i'm taking a degree on video game development over here www.gameinstitute.com, taking the course of
Graphics Programming with DirectX Module I, so i'm fully aware of all what you had stated, i was just lazy to state it all.
If ya were thinking leaving the as it is on the ps360 for the wii, looooooooooooooooool, will never happen.
A good programmer would make it work like it should, even if it has to lower way more the quality of things and besides, its not an abysmal ammount of new things that were added on the ps3 version, well, besides the full voice acting, which..... ok, thats a lot of new content, xDDDDDDDDD. Still, they can always go 2 disk DVD-DL to bring us the game and still be able to add more content. Hey, we were so used to change disk in the middle of the road when the psx was with us, and there are quite a handfull of 360 games that are like this, FFXIII for 360 has been confirmed to be a multi dvd game, if they want to add more content for the wii version, they always have this option, dont they? and i'm pretty sure most of us here (i'm talking about the game community in general) had ben through 1 or 2 multidisk games that we love and always be (metal gear solid, anyone?). Else..... there's always DLC, and we know Wii can handle it, Tales of Grace comes with DLC, some of which BTW are outfits from Vesperia i might add
CJLopez @ Nov 8th 2009 9:49PM
forgot to add. Been fooling around with some homebrew engines that had spawned for Wii for a while and i'm already playing around with unreal engine 3. man, thanks EPIC for making this awesome tool free!!!!!!
i might show later around here what i had accomplishes, which, is not much, but a think for a 1 man team work is quite something, xDDDDDDD
