We all know that home console Zelda games take longer to develop than most small, fledgling nations -- still, we'd secretly hoped that Nintendo would pull a hat trick next year, releasing new Wii installments in the Metroid, Mario and the aforementioned Triforce-centric series. Sadly, a recent quote from Reggie Fils-Aime has made us doubtful that this scenario will be realized -- speaking on GameTrailers TV, Fils-Aime explained that Nintendo hasn't "committed to Zelda for 2010."
So, feel free to keep that hope in your heart that you'll be Ganon-thwarting once more within the next 365 days -- but don't get too upset if it doesn't happen. Much like a college-aged Lothario, Nintendo's remaining non-committal. You might say the company's as free as a bird, darling -- and this bird, you cannot change.

Right now I hoping for that, then the wii would be just one big fat beta test

This would not be such a bad idea. I think most gamers (that cared) have had their fill of the Wii and there are many other iconic IPs Nintendo can release before their next console.
Moving Zelda to (I assume) launch with their next console will not only guarantee sales for their new hardware but will afford them more time and options in their development of the title.

Well, they gotta get something out before Dec. 2012, or we'll never get to play it!

This is good news, as long as they're putting their genius into the game to make it better, that fine with me, as long as their not wasting time on realistic sword flinging...

I hope they get it out next year, cause I only know of 1 wii game that I will definitely get next year and that's galaxy 2. It would be nice to have more than 1 great game to play...

I agree that really good Wii games are few and far between but Metoid Other M looks like it will easily be one of the best games on the system.

Take your time N. Just make sure you get the gimmick usage / actual gameplay ratio right on this one and I'll be happy. If the realistic sword combat thingy is too much of a time eater (as in keeps you busy until wii2 releases), just drop it. I don't think many people would be too upset about that.
Looking forward to this game!

Maybe they will release the new Zelda when the new console is ready, and port it to the new console.

I think it's the whole pokemon thing from the Nin10doh series and they're out of original ideas that may be on par with any of the other zeldas. I can't remember where it was but the writer was quoted as wanting a zelda at least as good as the Oot game.

lol I'd bet on that. That zelda game along with Mario 64 paved the way for 3 dementional games and showed how it could be done without being too complex. To top that off Zelda had a day and night system that worked in a 3D environment. That's the imersion effect that people are stuggling with today; there's no more road to pave, only road trips among them.

Every proper gamer know that nintendo only releases their big games like mario and zelda "when they are ready"
What this means is that nintendo "hasn't commited on delievering the zelda on 2010" in the same way they didn't commited on delivering zelda anytime =P
If in may 2010 they see that the game starts to feel ready and they can release in november 2010 ... they will release it then =P

Somewhat doubtful, since their next console is going to be in a league much further ahead than Wii, if their own commentary is to be believed. It would do the next console no justice to have a game with Wii graphics as a launch title
That half-generational thing was a once-in-a-lifetime shot, a unique opportunity due to the similar technical capabilities of the two devices.

They never said it would be ready on 2010. If they thought it would be they would have showed it at E3. So far the only things we actually know about it is that it exists and uses motionplus.
That said, it COULD still make the holidays next year, but 2011 is more likely

Here's the thing, it takes Nintendo forever to develop a new console zelda, this is a fact. It is for this reason that pretty much every zelda that comes out is a quality title, I'm even willing to go as far as to say they are some of the best games ever made.
So will it take a long time for a new zelda? Yes, but it will be well worth it I'm sure!

Nintendo needs to stop focusing on their soccer mom games and get to the titles that made them so magnificent and sensational in the first place. Putting out more "Let's Get Active and Fit" games is not gonna help their current image they have with the hardcore gamers. The people who have stayed with you since the very beginning are starving for more spectacular games, and yes, that means "Zelda" titles. I still haven't gotten the full "Zelda for Wii" experience, and that's just awful. With only two worthwhile games that have come from Nintendo in the year 2009, I can safely say that Nintendo is losing their touch, which is a painful, painful thing to say, especially when you look back at the days of Super Mario 64, Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and of course, Super Mario Galaxy (Which only came out two years ago). I await the release of what will be an amazing game from Nintendo: Mario Galaxy 2. But will their be anything to tide my starvation until that release? Maybe. But we're still in the hurricane of Nintendo only putting out these "casual games" (Yes, I know THEY don't make them), and it's difficult to see what we'll see from the Wii that will finally make us say "Hey, I'm gonna play the Wii." I love the Wii. I really do. But where is the compelling element Nintendo consistently had only a few years ago?

Maybe he is just planning ahead using the information from this year. It is cool to move your game into Q1 and Reggie is cool so Zelda must be moved to Q1 2011. Simple mathematics.

They won't commit to it until they've committed to it, like every. other. damn. thing. that the media tries to ask them about that they themselves aren't ready to reveal. It was foolish of Keighly to ask, and expect an answer.
I do believe it will be for 2010, though, they will have had 4 years to work on it for that period of time, and Shiggy's been talking it up a good deal as of late, which means they have to be making progress on the gameplay front. Plus the fact that there was a character other than Link in that concept art means that they have resolved a central theme to the gameplay, which is what Zelda games always get delayed about (the kicker for TP came with the addition of the Wolf)

I think it's pretty obvious that they are committed to the one thing that will be better than Zelda on so many levels of gameplay and player interaction:
Wii Music 2.

Screw you reggie. He probably wanted to tell us all it was coming out in february but decided that with his field history (telling us Twilight Princess was going to be out a year before it actually was, and Brawl coming out 6 months before it actually did) it was best that he said he just wouldn't commit to telling us. His job was probably on the line depending on what he said.

I don't really mind the wait. They never said it was coming out 2010 in the first place. Anyway, this happens with every Zelda game. There's a "delay". Everyone online goes crazy like it was the first time Nintendo's taken a long time to make a Zelda game. Hopefully they can bring back some of the fun in a 3d Zelda again. I just finished Twilight Princess this weekend. Took me about 3 years since I started. For some reason I just wasn't having much fun playing it and kept putting it down to play anything else.

The lack of HD and wading through piles of shovelware titles has made the wii so disappointing. I still love Nintendo made games, but i really wish they'd step it up a notch.
It's been 3 years, and boy-howdy waggling has gotten really old. Bring back a controller based Nintendo system - something to blow us away like the n64 did.

Keep drinking that kool-aid Mr. Khan. Drink away as you always do sipping every last little bit of that stuff. Sometimes you just sound so out of touch with reality and you have your head shoved so far up Nintendo's ass you can't even come up with an original thought. I love you man but damn is it hysterical to read some of your stuff sometimes.

Khan is correct in this assessment. Each console launching next gen will have, at the center of its focus, a motion controlled, tracking, etc etc device.
Dual analog is dead (thank god).

Honestly a zelda game on the Wii, not counting twilight princess as I count that as a gamecube game that got ported, Is one of the reasons I haven't gotten a Wii to date.
I hope they get one out soon because between a new metroid and zelda title I don't think I will be able to put the console off any longer.

We're going to look back on Zelda Wii the same way we do with OoT. This game is going to be the first to show the potential of 1:1 gameplay, and will be just as influential as the first round of games to introduce 3 dimensionality. The only thing that'll hinder the gravity of this game is Sony or Microsoft getting something similar on the market first. This is the VR race!
