Xbox 360 port of 3D Dot Game Heroes 'possible'
My Game News Flash recently stopped by Silicon Studios to chat up producer Hiroyuki Misawa, who offered that a port is "possible," but that it's really "up to From [Software]." He added, "We're a developer, so if there's a call to make it, I believe we can do it." Hardly confirmation that a port is in the works, but should that be a future move for From Software, Silicon Studios sounds like it's willing.

Interesting...
Morgon @ Nov 8th 2009 11:07AM
Considering FROM has published a few titles on the 360 already, I don't see any reason why they would pass up this interesting potential.
Quite frankly, the platform could really use a game like this to offset the number of 'me-too' games already available (Despite the irony that is a 'me-too' game in every sense of the phrase). At least it's a different genre of 'me-too'.
Bubbameister33 (Confused by Fanboyism) @ Nov 8th 2009 2:10PM
What's a "me too" game?
Morgon @ Nov 8th 2009 2:39PM
Usually, you'd apply it to a game that just rehashes a popular theme or type of game without bringing anything new to the table. For example, any of the umpteen FPS' on the 360 that only exist on the fact that it's an FPS (which traditionally sell well on the 360) are 'me-too' games.
Tiptup300 @ Nov 8th 2009 10:43PM
See True Crimes series.
Shmil @ Nov 8th 2009 1:38PM
Wow I just want to explore the land in that 3d bit art style.
ripslymemc @ Nov 8th 2009 1:41PM
I love this game's camera angles, they're very fitting of the game. The game has a tilt-shift effect to it, and it adds to the whole toy theme of the game. It'd be nice to see 360 owners get it.
Anemos @ Nov 8th 2009 1:47PM
HOLY CRAP, THIS GAME LOOKS AWESOME.

Filthy Assistant @ Nov 9th 2009 4:32AM
Am I the only one that thinks it looks really mediocre? I like the style, but the gameplay just looks like a subpar Zelda clone.

Yes.

Awesome!

After seeing how how tear-tastic Heavy Rain was at EuroGamer.. along with rain 'hitting' two inches above where they should.. this maybe my new 'PS3-game-to-watch', but we'll see, they had best have full AA on this, or it'll be a jagfest
Aaroniero Arruruerie @ Nov 8th 2009 1:57PM
I dont think so, this game is aimed at the Japanese audience, Japan dislikes the xbox and jrpgs dont do well here on it, so not much i see to it

Look there is one of my stalkers, dont worry I already contacted them about you
Solace @ Nov 8th 2009 3:14PM
yes blame me and your "stalkers" for getting you banned. The writers on Joystiq do read the comments and ban people for behavior like yours. Next time before you make a comment don't try to make yourself look like a troll.

Why are you still here and not on N4G?
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Nov 8th 2009 1:59PM
yea, the 360 needs it. the only exclusive they've released is a gta expansion
Aaroniero Arruruerie @ Nov 8th 2009 2:00PM
Thats not true, ODST and Forza say hello
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Nov 8th 2009 3:46PM
@ Aaroneiro True, but one of those is, in all honesty, an expansion. A pretty big one at that, but nevertheless, still an expansion. Forza 3 is really great, but that's the only FULL game to come out EXCLUSIVELY for the 360. Kind of a disappointing year for Xbox exclusives, really...
2nd Lieutenant Gunther (PSN: helghast102) (Getting a DS :D) @ Nov 8th 2009 2:02PM
Who wants to bet that a 360 version would sell? I'll gladly take your money. Also im looking forward to this, i love 8-bit :D
Levi @ Nov 8th 2009 2:06PM
I got tired of having to worry about which systems get which games, so I got a 360. I mean, both systems have great libraries at this point, so I don't want to start some stupid flame war. But, while I know I was getting 3DDGH on my PS3, I was missing out on Shadow Complex on XBLA.
I really honestly wish they would team up and make a PS360 next gen to go up against Nintendo. The 360 and PS3 are such similar systems, it's just so stupid to have to buy both to enjoy all of the games. If you look back at ANY generation before this one, the systems had far more differences between each other than they do now. PS2 and XBox were definitely different beasts, graphically and feature-wise. The Gamecube was like a souped up PS2 with a far inferior game library. Now, we have screenshot comparisons of PS3 and 360 games, where the differences are so negligible that there are entire news posts about the subtle differences. If they are so close, why do we need to buy two systems??@!Q@#?
Or, instead of a PS360, we just get rid of 3rd party exclusivity, and have the actual system and services push sales. If the PS3 and 360 were priced the same from the beginning, and both had the exact same library, consumers could then choose between free online with slightly less features, or pay monthly for a little more.
What was this post about again?
Solace @ Nov 8th 2009 2:21PM
quick answer no..
Collymilad @ Nov 8th 2009 2:24PM
In a way I'd love to see that. A Sony + MS console venture would be a force to be reckoned with provided they actually worked together and respected each others ideas.
On the other hand, competition is good.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 8th 2009 2:45PM
No, I prefer competition.
Competition promotes excellence.
Levi @ Nov 8th 2009 2:59PM
Competition is good, yes, but competition has rendered two very similar pieces of hardware. If theybwere actually all that different, sure stay seperate. But when the biggest system differences at this point at cross game chat, game exclusivity is not fair to the consumer.
I'd rather see a model like that of computers. Exclusivity is gone, each platform has the same games, much like programs for Windows will work in a Dell or a Compaq. Then, the system features and services would sell the hardware.
It's just stupid that exclusivity does one of two things: makes the consumer poor, or limits the games we can play. I shouldn't have to buy another system to play a $15 game, when we all know both systems are perfecty capable of running the game.
Oh, and thanks for actually adding something Solace..
Slaziman (PSN ID: Slaziman) @ Nov 8th 2009 3:00PM
Sony could do the hardware and MS the software, that'd be great. And by software I don't mean games.
CaramelZappa @ Nov 8th 2009 3:56PM
No. The 360 and PS3 may seem similar but they have very different stratagies and architectures. The 360 was built to be easy to develop for, very closed off, and standardized from day 1. The PS3 is harder and more expensive to develop for but has more "potential" The platform is also more open for things like sharing PSN games, swapping hard drives, dedicated servers and mouse and keyboard support. Both consoles have distinctly different experiences despite being relatively similar in graphical prowess, and I like that the 3 game consoles are all aimed at slightly different markets. It allows them all to thrive, while competing at the same time.
If they made one console, a lot of our competition and innovation would be gone from the industry.
CaramelZappa @ Nov 8th 2009 3:58PM
Also, shadow complex is awesome.
Levi @ Nov 8th 2009 4:25PM
So then you see the issue I have. I guess I'm not trying to say I'd prefer a merger next gen, but rather just get rid of game exclusivity. As you pointed out, each system has some differences. However, I think Capcom has shown us that you can create a unified engine that creates nearly identical games on both systems. If we got rid of exclusivity, I wouldn't have had to buy another system to play Shadow Complex, and 360 owners wouldn't have to buy another system to play Pixeljunk games.
The games are really no different, aside from the various outliers, like Flower. This is why I think they should give it a rest with exclusivity. We know 99% of the games can be played on both systems. Let the features and services sell the hardware.
I also have to point out that it's a huge slap in the face to say this or that game is only available on this system, then it comes out for the other system shortly after.
This is just a rant about exclusivity at this point. I'll stop while I'm behind.
(ps - Shadow Complex was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I don't care about Halo, I bought the 360 for SC : )
CaramelZappa @ Nov 8th 2009 4:34PM
I understand where you're coming from, and it's a good idea. In the end though, I think consumers would lose. Exclusives like Uncharted 2 and Gears are system sellers, they are what really drive the competition between MS and Sony. If they don't need an amazing titles like Uncharted 2 to get you to buy their system, because it's the only modern system, why would they? Yea, right now you have to buy both consoles to get all the great games, but with one console you'd get fantastic titles that would have been exclusives half as often, if that. The competition is what fuels the industry. Without it, I doubt we'd see as many amazing games. I'd take more fantastic games over one less console to buy any day.
Sadistic Freek @ Nov 8th 2009 11:18PM
Umm... to all who declare that one console is bad because competition is good, and then spout off some game name, like Uncharted 2... you're wrong. In a one console universe games are still going to be good, mediocre, and bad. The competition for games are other developers, not other game consoles. Developers want their games to stand out from other developers' games so that their games will sell. The good thing about multiple consoles is that you good different features with those consoles. Xbox Live, PSN, Achievements, Trophies... those are all a part of competition between consoles, not the games.
CaramelZappa @ Nov 8th 2009 11:31PM
Sadistic Freak,
This is true for most games, but the reason why Microsoft and Sony put so much money into big name games like those are because they want to sell their console and promote their platform over their competitors. That's why you hear about a platfomr having a "killer app", so people want to buy it. If they make a PS360, they don't really need to compete like that, they can sit back and make all of their money off of third party developers, who usually don't have the resources to make games like Uncharted 2. Sure, they'd still make titles like this, but without having to compete with another platform year after year, I doubt they'd make nearly as many.
On top of that having one console would mean no price drop wars. Sony and MS have been constantly dropping their price, sometimes even at a loss, just to compete with each other. If you had one console, it would be the only real option and you'd see a higher price tag on it for a long, long time. Look at the wii. The other consoles don't really compete with it, and it maintained the same price point for 3 holiday seasons despite being overpriced from the get-go. Meanwhile, because sony had to compete with microsoft, they've cut their console's price in half in the same time period.
Levi @ Nov 9th 2009 9:04AM
That's not necessarily true. Nintendo has made it clear that they are in competition with Sony and MS despite the fact that they have almost completely shifted their demographic. MS undoubtedly dropped the Arcade originally to become the cheapest console. If there was no Wii, the 360 may have stayed at $300 until Sony dropped. Point here being that a PS360 would still have to compete with WiiHD.
In reality, I think a PS360 vs WiiHD could go either way with pretty much every aspect of business, including the price drops.
I really think there is as much possible benefit here than possible negatives. Nintendo and Sega competed pretty well without Sony getting in the mix. I didn't have a problem with those systems being separate, because the outcome, the games you played on them, were very different due to the hardware. Most of the games I play right now are multiplatform, and the ones that aren't could likely either be ported, or could have been made with extremely similar results using a good multiplatform engine like RE5's.
I tend to agree mostly with Sadistic Freek here, but Caramel has a good point. 1st party and 2nd party (studios that have a deal with the 1st party, think Rare in the N64 days) studios are really only able to churn out such expensive titles because of the support from the first party. Guerilla Games might not have had the resources to complete such an impressive looking engine had it not been for Sony's support.
Look, I'm just sour because I didn't want to have to buy another system XD
Orion @ Nov 9th 2009 11:47AM
Sony and Microsoft? I'm sorry, I wouldn't want that type of contamination. Also, both are profitable right now, so I don't really see the need for either of them merging.
What's with everyone thinking companies should merge to form the ultra mega super destroyer company ..thing? First it was Sony and Nintendo to get rid of Microsoft, now this? It's never going to happen, it's not even conceivable for it to happen.. so just let it go already guys.
Levi @ Nov 8th 2009 2:10PM
From Software.....DO IT NOW!
1251 @ Nov 8th 2009 2:23PM
Why do I have the gut feeling that when this was purely a PS3 exclusive(which it still is, atm), you all ignored it and/or said "fail"???
mahouneko @ Nov 8th 2009 3:10PM
I'm not sure if it's a timed exclusive or not (I doubt it's a timed exclusive, but I could be wrong). It seems more likely that the decision to publish the game rests entirely with From Software, which has been getting excellent reviews with Demon's Souls.
CH3BURASHKA @ Nov 8th 2009 2:30PM
I honestly doubt it will happen, even if it's possible. As a rule, quirky, 'sophisticated' games tend to be PS3 exclusive, except Braid, which took the opposite path. If it does happen, I'd be interested to see a percentage comparison: what percent of 360 owners got it versus PS3 owners. I'd be willing to bet it would be higher for the PS3 audience.
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Nov 8th 2009 3:42PM
Well, considering that a huge portion of 360 owners are gore-obsessed, immature generic-shooter fans, your assumption could be correct.
Sorry, I sound like a Sony fanboy don't I? I'm not, I love all systems, but I think it's a fact that there are a lot of idiotic 360 owners out there. And that goes for all systems, but still, take a trip to XBL, and you may in fact know what I mean.
lee @ Nov 8th 2009 2:39PM
wait was this the game that the 360 fanboys said sucks and that its just a zelda rip off?
oh so you like it now?
ok then...
Shadowbender (Nelson Is Behind You) @ Nov 8th 2009 3:38PM
Where are you getting this from?
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 8th 2009 4:12PM
Well if that is the case it is better than PS3 fanboys hating a game because it is going multi-platform.
OLDMIKE @ Nov 8th 2009 7:38PM
not so PS3 fans hate games going multi do to the fact NO multi game
has been 1/2 as good as most of the games only made for the PS3
if you go muti then your caped at 9GB and are not made for the SPUs
Giroro @ Nov 8th 2009 3:05PM
It's awesome. It's like they're trying to see how closely they can copy Zelda without getting sued, and that isn't a bad thing.
