Assassin's Creed: Renaissance sneaks onto book shelves Nov. 26
Tied into next week's Assassin's Creed II, Ubisoft is looking to expand Ezio Auditore da Firenze's 15th-Century Italian playground through a new book titled Assassin's Creed: Renaissance. Written by Oliver Bowden and set to be published by Penguin books on November 26, the novel will follow the formative years of Ezio and -- along with the Lineage short films -- build upon the game's universe, the Guardian reports. If you're looking for a sneak peek before the book clambers, dives and stabs its way to retail, the Guardian has put up a fairly long bit of prose from the upcoming tie-in. It deals with Ezio's mother and some paintings she commissioned from a rather famous painter. There's possible spoilers involved, so click over at your own risk.

This trend worries me. Dragon Age did their whole book thing, and that was great, it fit in really well with the game's story and it helped give an idea of what to expect.
The problem? Reviews.
Far too many reviews have given spoilers that have to do with the story following the book. That's in no way their fault because they most likely haven't read it, but it's just kind of a bummer anytime a story is given away.

Don't get me started on movie trailers that give away the entire plot... What are they thinking? Thanks for ruining the whole point of going to the theatre.

Speaking of stories being given away, watch this trailer of Passengers and tell me if it doesn't give the whole plot away: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qj2pXJPNAW4
It's like the worst trailer I've ever seen xD
And speaking of Renaissance, I love that band:

Don't forget the leap of faith. Gosh, I love the leap of faith.

If you were too lazy to read the excerpt, it's Ezio meeting some guy named Leonardo Da Vinci to pick up paintings while the narrator takes a demolition crew to the fourth wall.
"Next thing, thought Ezio, is that he'll [Da Vinci] tell us he's involved with music and poetry as well!"
"'It would be good if you could cultivate a man like Leonardo as a friend. I think he has a promising future ahead of him.'"
"Ezio baulked at this a little: was a fledgling artist really worth such deference?"
Bash bash bash!

I wonder if this will be any better than the old Doom books?

Anything with the title of "Assassin's Creed" on it is awesome. So for this book, I say "Heck yes."

I find it confusing that they'd make a book about Ezio. Shouldn't we be worried about Desmond and his predicament? What about the whole brainwashing conspiracy? It just seems silly that they're focusing on before Ezio instead of after Ezio.
The only way I can think of it being worth a read is if something in it will end up in AC3, much the way that the Mass Effect books always had something that would end up in the games (Sovereign and the Collectors).

I've been wondering that same thing. They seem to be pretending that the sci-fi elements no longer exist. I realize that they were tight-lipped before the first one came out because they wanted it to be a surprise, but now of course everyone who has played it is aware of Desmond.
I'm going to hold on purchasing it until I know a little bit more about that.

don't be surprised if this book turns out better than the game.

I wish I could get paid to write convoluted sentences that abused adjectives and adverbs like filthy whores. I'd take to the task with glee, I would.
"Some, like those of Verrocchio and the rising star Alessandro di Moriano Filipepi, who'd already acquired the nickname Botticelli, were large, busy places, where assistants and apprentices were busy grinding colours and mixing pigments, others, humbler."
The author must have been well chuffed when he dumped that 'others, humbler' on the end.
