Remember when Capcom conducted a poll asking how we wanted to receive the additional content being offered in Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition -- in a boxed version of the game or as a DLC expansion to the original? Turns out the questionnaire wasn't a pointless exercise. A majority of the participants answered that they'd rather receive the new features (including motion-control functionality) as a downloadable pack. After deliberating with the RE5 team in Osaka, Capcom has announced that the new content will come to the U.S., Europe and Australia as DLC for the core game.
Considering Alternative Edition is going to Japan in a retail box, this move is fairly surprising. Perhaps even a little upsetting, if you've gone ahead and traded your copy of the game in towards the cost of Horse Life Adventures. Even more upsetting if you did that today. Like, right before writing this post. Gah!

I sold mine back in April, I thought I beat it and got all the weapons and that would be it :/
It looks cool, but its not worth another buy for me.

Gamestop actually gives you $20 for that game? That's actually a decent price considering you can buy it for $20 on gamefly, and gamestaq.com

Isn't this the Director's Cut? I doubt they would have an Alternative adition and a Director's Cut, or are they different things, inform me.

I sold my copy and don't regret it. 3rd person action/adventure is my favourite genre and between Uncharted 2 and Splinter Cell in a few months, I've got all I need and won't be rebuying this. Oh Resident Evil, what happened to you? :(

Yeah I agree. RE4 was really cool at the time and I was addicted but RE5 made virtually no improvements and I just didn't enjoy it as much, plus third person games are becoming more popular there's real competition now. I hope with RE6 they push into some sort of new gameplay styles and can refresh the series.

The Resident Evil series, pre 4, changed very little from one to the next and yet was very successful. Many people bought RE5 even with all the complaints of not being able to move while shooting in the demo, a limitation that has been in the series since the first title. I see no reason why they should need to constantly reinvent a successful series. My only complaint would be that they should work on the atmosphere and the difficulty of the game such that it seems more like a survival horror and less like an action game, which is essentially what it has become. Either way, hopefully we'll get a Dead Space sequel.

problem is, if they keep doing this, they will lose sales. Everyone bought 5, most everyone knows it's not as good as 4. If they made the same game for 6, it would surely get less sales than 5. I remember how excited everyone was for the reboot. Previews for 4 had everyone really intrigued. Now that everyone knows another game with the same engine will be less interesting, they have to reboot it.
Anyway, they said they were gonna, so. Yup.

Great news, I didn't think Capcom would actually go through with it.

I just traded mine for the deluxe edition of Horse Life adventures, which comes in a collectable stable bag containing a brush, a locket, and a gigantic syringe full of ketamine. Now if anyone needs me, I'll be passed out on the floor.

As a PS3 owner who owns the game, I hope they give us the option to pass on the motion controls and just use the existing control scheme.

It's cool I suppose. I hadn't picked the game up as of yet and was just gonna wait until the new version was released. Looks like i'm gonna have to spend the $40-$50 for the game and then another $15-$20 for the DLC...thanks Capcom! While your at it, why don't you release Super Street Fighter IV for DLC also...I already have THAT game!

So...somehow spending anywhere from your projected $55 - $70...is worst than $60?
Here's an idea...how about buying the game USED and save even more money?

Re5:AE is just re5 with extras. Super Street Fighter 4 is basically a brand new game. Reworked balance, new characters, new moves. I would rather pay full price for SSF4 to support the fighting game genre. But back to RE5, if the motion controls are just as good, and if the alternative editons replaces retail copies, I wouldn't mind buying the game for ps3 since I already own and beaten the game(not 100% though) on xbox 360.

Is this just motion control? Add the RE4 stages and chars to Mercs as DLC and I'll buy that!

The name is also a throwback to the first RE, as it got a Director's Cut release about a year or so after it's release. So it makes sense in that regard.
If I was going to complain about it, I might complain about the fact that a DC usually refers to a director recutting a movie because he was dissatisfied with the version released to the theater and wants to show people more of what his vision was. That's really not the case with these.

Won't happen. Wii lacks the graphics processing power and would take Capcom considerable effort to downgrade the textures and resolution so the Wii could handle something that would look decent.
If Wii HD is ever released, I would guess yes, RE5 would have a good chance of coming out for it.

I've been holding out on this game, and collector's edition should be $40 by now.
Life is grand.

"Awesome. Injustice over injustice. I like the way you think."
Better than "Waaaah! Nobody understands me!"
Seriously, this is the comment section on a Videogame News Aggregator, so referring to getting downvoted as "injustice" is both comical and kind of immature.
Joystiq, and the Internet at large isn't exactly known for intellect or compassion so just think of where it's all coming from and take it in stride.
