Remember when Capcom conducted a poll asking how we wanted to receive the additional content being offered in Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition -- in a boxed version of the game or as a DLC expansion to the original? Turns out the questionnaire wasn't a pointless exercise. A majority of the participants answered that they'd rather receive the new features (including motion-control functionality) as a downloadable pack. After deliberating with the RE5 team in Osaka, Capcom has announced that the new content will come to the U.S., Europe and Australia as DLC for the core game.
Considering Alternative Edition is going to Japan in a retail box, this move is fairly surprising. Perhaps even a little upsetting, if you've gone ahead and traded your copy of the game in towards the cost of Horse Life Adventures. Even more upsetting if you did that today. Like, right before writing this post. Gah!

"Awesome. Injustice over injustice. I like the way you think."
Better than "Waaaah! Nobody understands me!"
Seriously, this is the comment section on a Videogame News Aggregator, so referring to getting downvoted as "injustice" is both comical and kind of immature.
Joystiq, and the Internet at large isn't exactly known for intellect or compassion so just think of where it's all coming from and take it in stride.

This is far from upsetting, because if they made this retail it would sell for a much higher price and I would refuse to purchase the same game again, this way everyone who purchased the original game pays a much smaller fee for the dlc. If only capcom was nice enough to do that with street fighter IV... just make those characters DLC as well as that attacking car mini game...... although most would prob just buy the characters....

Please do this also with SSIV, Capcom.

There was no need to start that poll up anyway. Its common fucking sense to release it as DLC.

I already own the game and would have sold it. Also I'm not such a fan of DLC in the age of RROD and failing HDDs.

Hrmm... This is no good for me. Hopefully they'll release an Asian version on PS3 on disc. I own the 360 version of the normal edition, but could care less about the "extra content" to download it. But on Disc, and with motion control ala RE4 Wii. I'd rebuy it. But not as DLC. Sorry Capcom.

Good news for you. The japanese re-release (at least the PS3 version, not word about xbox 360 -yet-) will be released in disc too.
Anyway, can't wait for the new content. There was a Famitsu interview on April last year and Takeuchi hinted at playable flashbacks. I was a bit dissapointed the castle flashback was only a cutscene, but now I'll be able to play it, yeah! Jill is my fave RE character too, so that's great news. I wonder what the other extras are going to be... hopefully some Jill/Josh missions, new costumes, cutscenes, etc.
