Star Trek Online shipping on Stardate 63554.5 (Feb. 2, 2010)
Star Trek Online officially beams into retail on February 2, 2010, keeping in line with what an unearthed Atari financial document expected last May. Players will boldly enter 2409 and continue "the story of the latest film installment," according to the press release. Huh, and here we thought it took place after the poorly-received Nemesis and not the "latest" Star Trek movie, which was actually the acclaimed reboot.
We contacted Atari to find out which layer of the sci-fi series' multiverse we'll be playing in and a representative apologized for the confusion, saying , "Events in the movie that happened in the prime timeline -- the destruction of Romulus, and the disappearance of Spock and Nero -- have affected STO. You can learn more about the aftermath of these events in the Path to 2409 and in STO itself."

Wii only has kiddy-games
360 only has shooters
PS3 only has JRPGS
PC only has MMORPGS.

Thanks for the [fucking retarded and completely fucking incorrect] comment.
nriveraexpress @ Nov 9th 2009 4:15PM

My troll senses are tingling.
JEV4 @ Nov 9th 2009 5:57PM
Hell yeah! Downvote him for giving his opinion!
RKN @ Nov 9th 2009 6:09PM
I was joking.
I wish the PC had less MMORPGS, give that shit to the consoles.
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Nov 9th 2009 6:40PM
Someone should make a FPSMMOJRPGRTSBBQ game.
And they should call it...Huxley. It will suck. Royally.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 9th 2009 4:06PM
See, I'm a big Star Trek fan. But if they really wanted my money, they'd let me be Kirk. I don't want to be some pansy Klingon!
Blank-Mage @ Nov 9th 2009 5:02PM
You'd need a gameplay mechanic centered around his oddly timed speaking pattern, though. That's something I want to try.
Ignatius @ Nov 9th 2009 7:56PM
Here comes the fleet of ENTARPRIZEs.
Young_Nastyman @ Nov 9th 2009 4:13PM
umm...Alex? Did you actually figure out the stardate? Or did you just pull a number out of your ass?
Ignatius @ Nov 9th 2009 7:59PM
He used a stardate calculator, or he is just that awesome. February 2nd, 2010 at 12AM is indeed 63554.5 with a calculator though.

The correct star date for the release is: -313087.69

I bet you're a stud with the ladies.
Ben @ Nov 9th 2009 4:38PM
Groundhog day fits perfectly as the release date for an MMO.
mattg @ Nov 9th 2009 4:41PM
The destruction of Romulus? Don't you mean Vulcan?
NekoDaimyo @ Nov 9th 2009 4:48PM
Prime timeline. The one Spock went back in time from. Vulcan is still in one piece there, while Romulus got popped by the super nova.
Matt G @ Nov 9th 2009 4:53PM
Ah, right. Damn time travel...
LaughingTarget @ Nov 9th 2009 7:12PM
It wouldn't be Star Trek without the confusing time travel.
John @ Nov 9th 2009 4:53PM
Can you captain a Romulan Warbird in this? Or can you only play as the federation?
Blank-Mage @ Nov 9th 2009 5:04PM
I get the feeling all ships in the series will be playable, but that's not based on actual evidence.
Dr. steve brule @ Nov 9th 2009 7:23PM
not sure about the romulan warbird, but defintely birds of prey. we will see, if not surely dlc will come out for it one day.
at any rate, definitely going to get this game.
RogueEnterprise @ Nov 9th 2009 7:24PM
AFAIK, the launch factions are the Federation (Starfleet) and Klingons (Klingon Defense Forces). Other ships you might be able to fly on a mission by mission basis (ie, hijack a Romulan ship and use it to attack such and such)
dogmaticatheist @ Nov 9th 2009 6:44PM
I might try this game. I will immediately /quit if I get a stupid fetch quest.
Ignatius @ Nov 9th 2009 7:59PM
Sounds more like a /ragequit to me.
KaBob799 @ Nov 9th 2009 8:54PM
A lot of episodes take place during "fetch quests" so I think your gonna be dissapointed.
Ryo @ Nov 9th 2009 8:00PM
They should have it were you only play one guy and it takes a whole crew to fly a ship. And levels 1-30 you can only run around the hallways during a red alert and try not to be killed by explosions, blow in space or assimilated.
Ignatius @ Nov 9th 2009 9:01PM
Oh yeah, that'd be fun, floating dead in space because your helmsman decided to doze off at the keyboard.
And your tactical officer decided to take a sick day. And the first officer is at work.
While a cool idea in concept, the multi-faceted lives of people make that impossible.
matt @ Nov 9th 2009 10:44PM
They're not in beta yet, and they're shipping Feb. 2?
Yikes.
Ignatius @ Nov 9th 2009 11:29PM
It's been in closed beta for a few weeks, actually.
This does seem too soon though, unless it's shaping up as awesome. Or they just want to drop the garbage out the airlock.
I think I'll wait for some impressions after the NDA is lifted.
SaintStryfe @ Nov 10th 2009 12:34AM
No Mac version, no sale.
Sad, I'd love to give this a try while waiting for Cataclysm.
