Though Visceral Games' video game adaptation of the classic parable known as Dante's Inferno (which, fun fact, was actually a book adaptation of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey) won't see the light of day until next February, we'll be getting our dirty, sin-soaked hands on a demo for the game in December. In 'The Gates of Hell,' players will be able to traverse the entire first level of the game, taking them from the surface world to the titular portcullis, where they must battle (and presumably kill) Death himself.
We imagine the game gets much easier after, you know, there's no more Death.

Yeah, but God of War is not Dante's Inferno. They're two different games.
And yeah, the GOW 3 demo is killer. Got it from my amazon preorder.

Maybe im still half asleep and reading your statement backwards but you have it all wrong. the Divine Comedy was written in the 1300's. so it would be better said that Bill and Ted was a VERY loose adaptation of Dante's Inferno (all be it not very many similarities other than a walk through hell)

I just finished reading Dante's Inferno last week. I'm interested on how they're going to make it into a game (I have yet to see any footage).
There's a lot of walking, talking, questioning in the tale. Not so much fighting or vanquishing.
Nonetheless, great read.

ODST was based on Dante's inferno too, particularly the audio log story, 'Vergil' being the superintendent and all that, pretty random but cool non the less.

They should really have an "Ultimate Edition" of this game with a copy of the poem.

Why? the only thing in common is hell and dante, the rest..well nothing. Could have called it "Guy walks around with large sword" and it might have more to do with the poem...
Poem aside, it looks like a neat play..

if its a well done game (which i have faith since dead space was quality), i think itll do at least decent on the ps3. it will hold over a lot of people waiting for GOW3.

I dunno why people keep saying it's a GOW clone, different premise/atmosphere. I mean, ok, you have lots of violent action and combo moves, but then it would be like saying it's also a Bayonetta clone.

Not quite - Bayonetta is a Devil May Cry clone. :P
But I digress, people need to stop comparing games to other games so much and start looking at them for the differences they bring - not the sameness they include. If we were going the route of the former, then every game would be a clone of everything else - since many of the games we see draw on inspiration or the groundwork of previous titles.
Needless to say - just like Dead Space before it - this one has piqued my interest.

Because it's exactly like God War down to the mini-games and red and green orbs that come out of chests when you open them. You could replace Dante's character model with Kratos and you woulnd't know the difference. EA and Redwood know this and that's why they are releasing this demo A.S.A.P. It's an obvious attempt to curb the upcoming onslaught of God of War propaganda.

Several flaws with your impeccable logic.
a) The DI demo comes out after the GoW3 demo - kinda defeats the purpose right?
b) Aren't there several other games in which orbs come out of chests? Ninja Gaiden, Devil May Cry...I guess they're all clones of each other then? And Devil May Cry came out first - so I wonder....does that make GoW a clone then?
c) Trying to obfuscate the GoW3 demo is like trying to stop a freight train with a 4-door sedan. GoW3 is already out there - with demos, gameplay and trailer hype. Everyone knows it exists, everyone who wants it will get it, and those who might not get it certainly know about it. So it's silly to even make that argument.

if we are going to talk about clones, or who are based on who, then take this into account:
All Hack and slash games are games where the main combat system is close combat and the first game using this system is Zelda.
So yeah, if we are going like this, all close combat games with an adventure feel are zelda clones!!!!!
stupid isnt it????
GOW wasn't the first game to use that system. its a game named Chaos Legion which can be considered a beta version of Devil May Cry (bout games from Capcom) and for real, GOW is more of a clone of Rygar (ps2 game) and Dante a clone from GOW. The games uses the same system for battles, so what, Rygar and GoW use a similar mythology and enviroment while Dante's Inferno is compleetely different. And i never heard a complain when the first GoW was announced. Either that or Rygar went waaaaaaaay to under the radar to ever had noticed.
Deal it, if you consider dante to be a GoW clone, then your future in the game world is doomed. Nowadays its pretty hard to not have a similar gameplay from one game to another. You are better off to choosing 1 game for each game type. Its pretty hard this days to come with something new and fresh, and most of thetime people with complain with the dev effort and find faults more than accomplishments. (men, i feel like i just went back to 2006)

I thought we were through with all this talk of clones around the time we stopped calling urban sandbox games "Grand Theft Auto clones". It's called genre. Find a dictionary. Look it up.

The game looks fantastic. Doesn't look anything like God of War, but it seems to be just as epic as it, but in another mythology altogether. Can't wait to play the demo!
