Troubling news for pirates worried about their fearsome image today: In a recent survey of TIGA members, a majority of developers say that while piracy is a problem, it's not necessarily a fatal one to their business. While 90 percent of those polled think the issue is getting worse, only 60 percent call it a low threat with a mere 10 percent saying it represents a significant danger to their survival.
What are the other 90 percent worried about? Well, getting caught between Mega Shark and Giant Octopus, naturally.

Man, I fucking hate pirates. All my friends are pirates and they just refuse to buy even the greatest of games! They actually pirated Arkham Asylum! A game about crimefighting for fucks sake! Now they're all gonna pirate Dragon Age even though it's incredible and doesnt even have any shitty DRM!

Wow...that is pretty bad. After BioWare pushed to keep SecuROM off of DA, they still pirate it...
But you're the Goddamn Batman! Can't you do something about it?

I can assure you if they have consoles and you could pirate games on consoles as easily as PCs, they'd pirate their console games to hell as well. Its a real damn fucking shame.
I definitely reward PC developers who trust their audience and forgo DRM on their titles.

I said friends didn't I bradwart? All my friends are superheroes! But seriously i've tried everything. One of them claims to use them as "rentals" he'll download something, play it all the way and if he loves it he'll pay for it, but not if he loves it, and somehow that's justified. Even stranger is that this guy is a forsworn communist who gets into huge arguments with other much more republican friends about universal health care and how they dont care about anyone but themselves, and then he hasnt payed for a PC game since Oblivion. I tried to give him his own medicine by stealing some of his stuff and waiting to see if i loved it or not to give him some money for it, but he keeps pirating! The others arent communists just cheap lazy bastards.

I used to pirate games, both PC and PS2 with a modded system as a teenager but since have stopped. Back when I pirated, I didn't see the harm in what it would cause. But I can definitely see how PC gaming is hurting badly because of piracy.
I ask your PC pirating friends, if PC gaming died because of their actions, would they just move onto consoles and pirate those games or would they truly be sad over losing PC as a gaming platform and the unique advantages it offers?

@RKN I remind them all the time they killed the dreamcast! And nothing! Heartless bastards all of them! Only the communist is the one that only really PC games, and even then, he doesnt really even play games, he just plays the most important ones so he can be hip and topical, so i doubt he'd actually care! There's no resolution to this situation except.....MURDER!

People who pirate software use DRM as an excuse. In reality, they don't want to pay for things, but their conscious won't let them admit they're doing so, so they make themselves out to be some sort of freedom fighter.
If you're against DRM, fine. But don't use it as an excuse to justify why you're not man / woman enough to admit that you're stealing.

I know someone who has almost filled a 160GB iPod without actually buying any CDs.
He say's he likes Aerosmith, and has all their albums, but my point of view is that if you actually liked an artist, you'd be willing to pay for their music.
And I like to buy CDs. They look better, and have a higher quality than downloadable MP3s.

It's 90 percent out of 100, then 60 of that same percent, and 10 of those same people, it's very simple 8th grade stuff man.

It's 2 separate questions.
90 percent say it's getting worse.
60 percent say it's a small threat
10 percent say it's a big threat.
I don't see what's confusing.

piracy has been around since the dawn of pc's..you know charging $60-70 for games is really not helping things either, maybe if these people dropped the price they may see a better outcome, who knows...

I doubt it. Compare any price to Free, and Free is going to come out on top. When it's so easy to pirate a lot of these games, who's going to bother paying for them?*
*Storm Eagle does not participate in or condone the act of pirating.

Piracy is an epidemic that's not limited to the PC platform anymore. Modern Warfare 2's zero day 360 release before the PC pirated release just demonstrated just how potent console piracy will become. The days of proclaiming the PC as the exclusive platform of the high seas is over.

So now will consoles in the future get annoying, invasive DRM like the PC has had to put up with for years?
There's a chance it will. I'm a bit scared for the future of gaming, especially console gaming, as they try to milk you further with DLC and the like.
