Eidos is now merely a memory, much like
Midway,
Brash and
Atari ... what do you mean Atari is still around!? Anyway, Square Enix announced today that the Eidos
reorganization is complete and the company has been reborn as Square Enix Europe, which we still haven't come up with a clever nickname for: Le SquEnix? Der Europa Enix? SEEurope? Eh, still working on it.
SEE will
oversaw watch over development studios
Crystal Dynamics,
IO Interactive, among others, but the company brand will show up on the box as either Square Enix, Eidos or Taito. Bon Voyage, Eidos (the company), may you find peace in the afterlife. Now, can we talk about how positive you all are that Atari still exists?
Update: Noted the brand "Eidos" still exists, even if the company doesn't.

Thank you muchly.

Le Carré Enix has a nice ring to it.
Phil @ Nov 10th 2009 5:06PM
Does this mean that we'll get Soul Reaver released on PSN soon?

Eidos Montreal will shortly become geographer's nightmare. Is it Europe or is it Quebec? We don't really know.
Meloche @ Nov 10th 2009 6:04PM
Eeeh... it won't be Europe, for sure. Square-Enix Montréal sounds good enough I think.
JeezWhiz87 @ Nov 11th 2009 6:10AM
I think to be considered part of Europe you have to be in Europe...
Unless your Greenland.
Or India.
chaos123x @ Nov 10th 2009 5:36PM
never in my life have I heard of Brash.
Who the heck were they?
Dale @ Nov 10th 2009 5:58PM
They were a company that focused on spending lots of money on dubious licenses and making games out of them. Had they not gone out of business, they would have published SAW, for example.
Rob47 @ Nov 10th 2009 5:55PM
Does this mean Europe will get more SE love like more of their anime brands an some other bits and pieces like quicker localisation on games. Or maybe if we're super lucky they might pick up demon's souls and publish it here :D
don't mock my faith.
xordok @ Nov 10th 2009 6:17PM
What about Eidos Montreal ???
Wiil it be renamed Square Enix Europe Montreal ?? lol
Woul be nice to have Square Enix Montreal!!
Ryan Hamilton @ Nov 10th 2009 6:27PM
A company bought the rights to the name and logo of Atari, but it's not the real Atari.
charlie b. @ Nov 10th 2009 6:33PM
ZOMBIE ATARI!
Hiro @ Nov 10th 2009 7:15PM
May I suggest Squrope?
BigD145 @ Nov 10th 2009 7:24PM
I like Syrup.
The Good Soldier Svejk @ Nov 10th 2009 10:24PM
While this name change doesn't actually mean a whole lot it is a shame to see the Eidos name go. Since the sale of Eidos Codemasters are the only remaining large UK based publisher.
Ah well.
Keir@Eidos @ Nov 11th 2009 5:49AM
Fear not old bean - the Eidos name will live on in games you'd traditionally associate with it.
I'm Keir, Eidos Group Community Manager.
It's like this; Eidos is now a label owned by Square Enix Europe. So your Hitmans, Tomb Raiders, Thiefs, Deus Ex's, etc will all have Eidos splash screens and Eidos logos on front of box.
Hope that helps.
The Good Soldier Svejk @ Nov 11th 2009 9:28AM
It does actually.
You also just reminded me of new Deus Ex and Thief games. All of this makes me happy :)
Urza @ Nov 11th 2009 2:09AM
Darn.. I was hoping Eidos would find a way to put Lara up against zombies before they were put in line. Guess not.
Here's hoping for a good tomb raider game soon.
Keir@Eidos @ Nov 11th 2009 5:51AM
As I posted elsewhere, Eidos will live on as a label owned by Square Enix Europe. So games you'd traditionally associate with Eidos will still have the splash screen and logo.
And we all know who the first lady of Eidos is ;)
JeezWhiz87 @ Nov 11th 2009 6:05AM
OBJECTION!

Ugh, this comment system is awful! It took me like 5 tries to reply to the right post after this miserable failure. Please downvote this. I am ashamed.
