Ooh, ooh! A game with graphics and game play from the 80's and half the (already tiny) screen filled with a controller interface! Pass.

This ^

Took the words right out of my mouth. If people still wanted to play C64 we wouldn't have current gen systems. I don't get it, but I guess people will speak with their wallets on this one.

For what it's worth, you can rotate the device and have the game fill the screen 100%.

Really?

Have you guys never heard of retro gaming?

Have you never listened to music or watched movies from the 80s? Why not games?

Sweet. Now, we've just got to get Apple to unblock the other billion apps they keep stopping.

Whoever made it is probably upset by all this meandering around, but must be thrillied by all the free publicity over it!

It would have been nice if they had re-approved this while my iPod touch WASN'T A FREAKING BRICK. Grrr.

As a first-gen Touch owner...I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Apple has consistently screwed owners over, out of a desire to force owners to upgrade. They'll keep doing it to the next versions soon enough.

I'll be looking at other options when I replace this thing.

@Bradwart: I like the device well enough. What pisses me off is the fact that it bricked while I was trying to transfer my iTunes folder to my external hard drive. I still need to get around to visiting an Apple store or something to see if they can replace it, since I think it's under warranty.

@Darth

I just needed to throw this out there for those who do not study law. Apple has to impose these prices on the major software updates because of Tax laws. Any update that extends the software beyond it's original scope has to be taxed, period. So Apple (like everyone else) passes this price onto their customers.

I wasn't talking about the software updates-I knew that was a GAAP issue-I was talking about blocking app installs, despite the fact that the hardware is better than the original iPhone, about not enabling features that it has, etc.

third time lucky, honestly joystiq, if this doesn't go to where it's meant to I will rage.

"Also your bricking should be fixed with a basic factory restore, have you tried that?"

Weasler, that is a falsehood. Sony has put out numerous feature packed system upgrades to its systems over the years at zero cost to their customer. Apple is simply making you pay to play and now that some questioned their ethics have spun that out. Truth.

1. There's a reply button you know. :P

2. I looked up every possible method to restore it I could find and tried it, no dice. It hangs up on "waiting for iPod" and does nothing for hours. Apparently it's a common problem that doesn't seem to have any fix except sending it back to Apple.

So....I can't use this to play anything other than the programs that come with it, as opposed to, let's say, my vast collection of original retail Commodore 64 disks that I will, let's say, make images of - right? I mean, I can't somehow load an mount disk images...right?

As with any gaming platform, the real test is going to be whether they ever release any great games for it. They say they plan to sell most individual games for $1 each.

Are the games he is including his own, or has the copyright expired on them?
