Tecmo dates Again, dusts off Monster Rancher DS

In addition, the company surprised us with another March 2010 release date for a Cing-developed DS game: Monster Rancher DS. Two DS games in Tecmo's once-massive monster generating and collecting series came out on DS in Japan in 2007 and 2008, featuring the ability to unlock monsters by drawing on the screen or talking into the microphone, but nothing was ever said about a North American release until now. Monster Rancher DS features both local and online monster fighting, and the return of many of the nostalgic monsters you may remember from the older games, like that one with the big eye.

Man, I LOVED the first monster rancher game on PS1. It was awesome how you could put in other cd's and get new monsters and stuff. That was cutting edge back in the day.

Monster Rancher one was awesome, but Monster Rancher 2 was perfection when it came to breeding. Only perfect breeding made the perfect monsters. Every item you gave to the monster affected their diet and health - and each one counted.
The first one, you could just feed them the same thing over and over (item-wise, not monthly-food-wise) and they wouldn't change too much compared to not feeding them those items at all. There would be a change, but VERY LITTLE.
MR2 was perfect. Perfect for snooty breeders, that is. Which many of us were.
MR3 is underrated. It's basic, but still a great Monster Rancher -very underrated just because it looked "kiddy".
MR 4 had something going for it but drifted too far from the personal-care-formula the other ones went for.
MR EVO... well... it was okay, but the entire gameplay just went TOO FAR from the original formula.
... I wish Monster Rancher Online made it to the US, though.

Whatever happened to that fps they were working on? It's been so long since I've heard anything about it, I forgot what it's called. I'd love to see a Japanese take on the fps.

I might have to pick up Monster Rancher for my girlfriend. Just so I have an excuse to play it.
Anti-Villian @ Nov 10th 2009 10:34PM
YES OH GOD I HAVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS

Wow, talk about unexpected localizations.
Now, if Konami will finally translate the DS Mystical Ninja game... then all would be right in the world.
Maybe.

Another Cing adventure? Awesome!
(Am I the only person who is really excited to find that out, but doesn't really care about Monster Rancher? Kind of seems like it from the comments here...)

As a kid i had hoped they'd make an adventure game like the cartoon, i could never get the hang of breeding.
Trying out every cd in the house was far too entertaining.
SoshiKitai @ Nov 11th 2009 7:09PM
MR 4 and EVO were pretty adventure-esque.
Exploring dungeons and having an actual storyline.

THANK YOU.
