This is Modern Warfare 2's official launch party
Funnily, a good percentage of people waiting on line already had a copy of the game. Why bother going to the launch event, then? Perhaps the swag proved too enticing: XL Modern Warfare 2 t-shirts and the chance to oogle at IGN's Jessica Chobot were more than enough reason to wait on line for upwards of an hour.
Considering this is arguably the biggest game release of the year, the event ended up being a bit underwhelming. Other than the dozens of Xbox 360 demo kiosks (with nary a PS3 in sight), Activision didn't offer much else to see or do. For the sake of this blogger, a more "ridiculous" marketing budget would have offered a far more spectacular launch party, one filled with fireworks, ninjas and dedicated servers.

Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:07AM
Hate to break it to you (I already tipped Joystiq) but the Steam version won't be unlocked until the 12th...
This is the one time that Steam is worse...

its also available on the internet for free
brian @ Nov 10th 2009 12:20AM
nah, i decided against that.
either it proves that it doesnt suck, or i dont play it.
RKN @ Nov 10th 2009 12:22AM
Even if you buy a retail copy of the PC version, you must activate it on Steam, same goes for a few more PC games. I don't like it that much, but it does help against piracy I suppose and helping against PC piracy is okay in my book as it helps the battered platform.
phinnvr6 @ Nov 10th 2009 12:40AM
It's just a video game... this is dumb. Besides, Bad Company 2 will own it.
Bobby Kotick @ Nov 10th 2009 12:36AM
Hey phinnvr6,
Die monster! You don't belong in this thread!
brian @ Nov 10th 2009 12:39AM
maybe you havent seen videos of bad company 2, but it definitely looks better that MW2 to me, at least for PC.
i see nothing wrong with the console versions of MW2, basicalyl just upgrades, no real losses.

Quoting the jokes of other people is almost as bad as holding up your copy of Modern Warfare 2 like it's a trophy.

Sorry to tell you but it's pretty brutal on the PC, I wouldn't buy it on the PC if you are a multiplatform gamer (get it on the 360 or PS3 instead). There is literally no reason to buy on the PC.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/11/pc-modern-warfare-2-its-much-worse-than-you-thought.ars
Gimped beyond all reason when compared to other shooters on PC/Steam.
Omega2k3 @ Nov 10th 2009 7:18AM
Wow. I wasn't going to buy it before, due to all that crap, but I hadn't actually read the chat's content:
"Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings."
What a slap in the face to us PC gamers...
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 10th 2009 11:39AM
Funny, Battlefield Bad Company 2 doesn't look bad and I'm buying it but most are just on that bandwagon to spite IW. Too bad the games multiplayer won't last over a month. You guys are sooo cool for liking a less popular game.... not you guys just look like douchebags.
Omega2k3 @ Nov 10th 2009 10:55PM
Or, you asshole, we may like the game, but HATE what IW/Activision are doing to those of us who have been loyal PC gamers since IW's inception. All the things they've done, no matter how much I like the actual game, cripple the online community, and their statements further their obvious abandonment of the people who made them who they are.
You people keep saying "Oh hurr hurr it's so cool to not like it because it's popular hurrrrrr."
When has that EVER been what we're saying? It hasn't, so stop suckin' on IW's dick and think for a goddamn second before you say random shit.

Why must it plague my screen like so.
One does enough damage...
Bobby Kotick @ Nov 10th 2009 12:19AM
You must not have seen a lot of his posts. He is definately the Star Wars kind of guy (I'm not saying that's a bad thing). One time, he wanted me to apologize in a Empire Strikes Back kind of way. I don't remember how he wanted me to apologize specificly, but I assume it had something to do with chopping off the hand I masturbate with.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:23AM
No, Bobby. It was the scene where Vader Force choked Captain Needa, who had come to take responsibility for losing the Falcon. Vader kills him, drops him and says "Apology accepted, Captain Needa."
Bobby Kotick @ Nov 10th 2009 12:25AM
I kinda liked my apology better, though I could just use the internet to become a lefty...

I just HAVE to give props to the guys here who helped make this game a reality. They've done an excellent job here for what may be one of the best FPSs of 2009. I especially have to thank the one who is the mastermind behind it all and absolutely the greatest person involved in the game.
ME!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:07AM

Bobby Kotick @ Nov 10th 2009 12:10AM
You know all that money Infinity Ward didn't accept for the game's developement?
Check the video.
Inevitably Bored @ Nov 10th 2009 2:30AM
You're the guy who went through the files while Infinity Ward slept and deleted half the features, then left Bowling a note on his desk in the morning on how to spin it, eh?
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 10th 2009 12:06AM
Embargo has been lifted. Starting to see a whole mess of green on MetaCritic.
Sigh... And I can't pick up my copy until Friday.
Oh well, guess it's back to Borderlands / Uncharted 2. Poor me. Wait...
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:09AM
WHAT? The PS3 version has five reviews and is at 100 percent, but the 360 version has four and is at 99?
Consider me shocked.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 10th 2009 12:11AM
Who cares about point tallying? It's pretty obvious that the reviews are positive.
+1 or -1 doesn't mean a thing.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:12AM
I'm saying I'm shocked that a shooter that is pretty much built around the 360 is getting a lower review...
brian @ Nov 10th 2009 12:16AM
why would you think it is built around the 360?
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 10th 2009 12:18AM
If anything it is built around consoles, not just the Xbox 360.
The only reason you think it's built around the 360 is because Microsoft has a lot of money and they like to waste much of it on promo events.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:20AM
It's built around 360 because it was originally a PC title, which means it was ported to the 360.
But IW does do a good job of PS3 versions.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 10th 2009 12:24AM
What are you talking about?
The original Call of Duty was an original PC title. All of the other games have been built around the consoles with the PC as an afterthought. The support for hacking in CoD2 was atrocious and the only real push CoD4 had was the higher player cap, but it didn't have any sort of prestige mode.
They have separate teams working on the PS3 and 360 builds so that they can both be as great as possible. Technically CoD4 had the edge on PS3 because it would at times look a bit better in terms of visuals, but obviously could not overcome the community of Xbox Live.
I think you need to update your wikipedia.

i checked the scores, it wasn't reviewed by all the same people, so you cant compare on till reviews from everyone are in.
i didn't even see IGN or gamespot up there
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 10th 2009 12:27AM
I meant the original game, sorry. I'm well aware that MW2 PC is a pile of bad code.
Marius Returns @ Nov 10th 2009 12:27AM
yeah the embargo has not been properly lifted
