MAG Beta now pre-order exclusive, servers running 24/7
The MAG beta program is getting one final, well-timed push before Zipper Interactive gears up to launch the impossibly oversized shooter. The game has officially moved onto Beta Phase 4 -- a shift which not only makes 6,000 changes within the game (including modifications to the skill tree and an increased level cap), but also makes the beta exclusively available to those who've pre-ordered the online FPS at GameStop.
Yes, if you've been playing the beta using one of the other promotional access codes, you'll be shut out of the proceedings. However, as a side bonus, Zipper is now keeping the game's servers open all day, every day. That's right, you no longer need to sacrifice your nightly Murder, She Wrote viewings to adhere to the beta's odd schedule. Thanks, Zipper!

Minus the fact a lot of users who did pre-order are having issues connecting.
Solace @ Nov 11th 2009 11:28AM
this game seems like it still needs alot of work though beta testing apparently, I only played the Beta maybe 10 times at the most because of the ridiculous and confusing time schedule. Zipper did the right move pushing the game back but now they're stuck between MW2 and BFBC2. This is going to be interesting how the game is received and how the final product will compare to the two games stated above.
PuBeLeSs @ Nov 11th 2009 11:28AM
how long are the servers going to be up? till the game comes out? i mean i think i could burn my self out quick on this game. i dont want to pre-order just because of that.
Hyams @ Nov 11th 2009 11:33AM
1) Pre-order
2) Play game
3) Burn self out
4) Cancel pre-order
Solace @ Nov 11th 2009 11:50AM
If you go to GameStop.com and look at the MAG product page, once you pre-order the game and receive your beta code you can NOT cancel your order.
lochack @ Nov 11th 2009 12:02PM
@ Solace, but you don't have to put any money down when you pre-order from gamestop. I always pre-orders games from gamestop and never pick up from the store and still get the code.
robert @ Nov 11th 2009 12:52PM
if you don't pick up a pre-order their site says the will charge a $5 restocking fee to your card

@ Solace
Why not? It's not like you're supposed to register your phone # and address to GameStop for pre-ordering.
Confucius @ Nov 11th 2009 4:23PM
U know, u could just walk into a gamestop store to pre order it; then cancel it about a week later at that same store and b sure to bring your recite.
Thats exactly what I did and I'm still in the Beta.
koehler83 @ Nov 11th 2009 11:28AM
So, no positive feedback so far then?
Confucius @ Nov 11th 2009 4:24PM
Well I like the game, It has an epic feel to it, but at the same time it is kinda intimate because your in your own 8 man squad and stuff.
tensider @ Nov 12th 2009 10:01PM
Working together with a group of snipers, medics, heavy and light machine gun troopers can be really a rewarding experience - IF you have a squad that cooperates. I hope a dedicated community forms and stays around.
kb @ Nov 11th 2009 11:36AM
I like it. I wish they would let you play against 256 players, instead of 64. The bet finishes on the 20th. *KICK* ROADHOUSE!!
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 11th 2009 11:34AM
I thought this is a great game. There are of course still issues, and the graphics aren't exactly good. But I imagine it's pretty difficult to put out a game of 256 players with no lag (I haven't experienced any), so they deserve credit for what they've done/been doing.
sohcahtoa @ Nov 11th 2009 3:35PM
The game is called "Planetside"
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 11th 2009 11:35AM
Oh, thank god. Now Angela and I can solve murders again!
ToTheMoon @ Nov 11th 2009 11:40AM
Ahhh Cabot Cove, the town with the highest murder per capita ratio.
Hyams @ Nov 11th 2009 11:43AM
In before random douche tells Darth to stop posting.
darth has no life @ Nov 11th 2009 5:48PM
stop posting!
Solace @ Nov 11th 2009 11:51AM
weird..
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 11th 2009 11:52AM
Oh, odd...it's back. Like a bad smell...
rickjamess04 @ Nov 11th 2009 11:56AM
The best episodes were the ones that had crossovers from other Donald P. Bellisario--in particular the ones with Magnum... Because, lets face it, Magnum is the shit.

thats kinda fucked up considering I pre-ordered from Amazon...
but whatever....I can wait until January to play with that highly powered sniper rifle again
Jabra the Hutt @ Nov 11th 2009 12:36PM
But Amazon pre-orders are easier to cancel, right?
Anyhow, I thought the beta was great. I haven't played in three weeks, so at the time I thought it still needed some polish, but I Iiked it a lot.
Hyams @ Nov 11th 2009 12:01PM
Oops. My bad.
Gemini Ace @ Nov 11th 2009 12:21PM
The whole MAG beta was crap. The "hours of operation" were so limited, I don't know how anybody go to play. Now, you have to pre-order to get in to the 24/7 servers? If there's one way to keep me from wanting your game, this is it.
sohcahtoa @ Nov 11th 2009 3:37PM
Hmm... i thought the purpose of "beta" was to test a game out, like stress test, making sure their servers are capable of the amount of players expected. Not to "play."
And if you think restricting hours for beta testing are bad practices, then sir you have never beta tested before, and dont know what it means to beta test something
M0N5TER @ Nov 11th 2009 12:41PM
Does anyone know if there are also more game modes unlocked now? I'm tired of playing the same mode (Acquisition?) all the time. I wanna see a 256 player battle.
And of course the timing couldn't be any worse, now that the new CoD is out. I'm really torn, because both games are very different, but great in their own regard. Two great games, not enough time to play both.
Confucius @ Nov 11th 2009 4:29PM
Well considering how MW2 is have it's own server issues, MAG's 24/7 servers couldn't have came at a more appropriate time, lol!
I read on the PS blog that they r planing to add more game types, but I'm not sure when.
Samael @ Nov 11th 2009 1:01PM
Anyone know of any stores near Toronto that is giving out the keys? I asked for one in Richmond Hill, but they did not get any. It would be great if I knew where I could get it.
P.S. The stores I visited were EB Games stores.
Arturo @ Nov 11th 2009 1:27PM
I just can't get excited for this game =/, so hopefully the final product changes my impression of it.
JoeStillLife @ Nov 11th 2009 1:33PM
i don't own a ps3. but idk how well this games gonna work. idk why the screenshot looks so horrible to me. maybe i just need to see an actual gameplay video.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 11th 2009 1:43PM
So, MAG, like SOCOM is expected to be terribly popular with our actual soldiers. And now soldiers stationed overseas can't play the beta because this is a US GameStop thing.
Seems like suck. Especially on Veterans Day.
Autobot (Now with Vitamin D)! @ Nov 11th 2009 6:00PM
You're better off getting CoD: MW2.
So much better.
Paul @ Nov 11th 2009 5:32PM
same here. i cant get excited about this game. ive played the beta about 20 times. the graphics are so so. kinda hard to see my opponents. Hate the spawning time. Im not crazy about the maps. very generic. I would love to play this with socom maps. it just seems like the devs could do soo much more with 256 players online.
atx1980 @ Nov 11th 2009 8:51PM
Beta Flawless! Day one PSN Down for lack of servers!
Welcome to the PSN Experience!
Slogan "Go outside and play!"
The Alex @ Nov 12th 2009 3:33PM
I got a chance to be apart of the beta. I played the game once, it wasn't that good at all. If you only own a PS3, then I can see it's appeal, but even then, it really doesn't offer anything that you couldn't get out of Call of Duty MW2.
I did try playing the beta a couple other times, one time I wasn't within there timeframe and the other time it asked me to waste 2gig's of bandwidth to "update" the game, I says forget that (I only get 60 gigs per month) and haven't bothered with it since.
Honestly, Uncharted 2 was a much better multiplayer experience. Go buy that instead.
