Now may be the perfect time to come up from the deepest bowels of Torchlight's dungeons to take a breather from all of your greedy hoarding, as Shacknews reports the game's mod tools are now available. Runic Games originally announced the tool set would be a separate download following the late-October release of the game and the dev has made good on that promise, gifting us all with TorchED.
TorchED allows one to manage all aspects of the game, from creating custom levels to modifying skills right down to quest construction. For you budding quest composers out there, Runic offers a list of tips to get your mod on that you may wish to check out.

Honestly this game is very addictive. It's one of those games you can play half an hour-to an hour of and be able to pull away from. Or you can play it for hours on end.
Really good "break-time" RPG

Yeah, how dare a $20 budget title not have multiplayer.
The nerve of some developers.

Why? The game is fantastic fun as is, as has been echoed by both critics and fans. While multiplayer would certainly be welcome, it's not at all necessary, and the fixation with the concept is arbitrary at best.
As a matter of fact, I'd weight this kind of extremely open-ended edit tool much heavier than barely gameplay-changing multiplayer.

Yeah, but since when did we evaluate games by what they don't have? Standing on it's own, it's a great game. Sure there are plenty of things that *could* be added, but it isn't inherently missing anything.

No multiplayer. I can't go for that - no can do.

Personally, I think this game is a steal at $20. It's really good as a quick game for killing time, or to lose a few hours in while loot whoring.
Also, I really couldn't care any less about the lack of multiplayer. I mean, if I spent $60 on it, then sure, I'd be complaining, but it only cost me $20. It's $20 of really good single-player action, so I'm pleased.
I'll gladly give them my $20 now to ensure the MMO version gets released in a year, and it'll have plenty o' multiplayer.

Love the game to bits. Would still be infinitely better with multiplayer.

This is one of the best games I've played this year...
The lack of MP is sad...but...Not a deal breaker in the least. Plus, all of you people whining about multiplayer...The dev has already said the sales of SP version is fueling the development of a MP version. BUY THE DAMN GAME!

Exactly!
There are two scenarios in which Torchlight would have multiplayer. The online gameplay would be dodgy at best, and seem really pasted on, OR this game would be release Q2 2010.
Bottomline: It's a really awesome game, that you can pick up RIGHT NOW for under 20 bucks and be playing it in like ten minutes. The campaign can be solved in just under 10 hours if you blast through it, but there are side-quests and even some meta-gaming available. There's a ton to explore and with the editor, user-created stuff, too. I really don't feel the game is missing _anything_.
