@warrenEBB

Crap deal? Are you kidding? The kit keeps people from duplicating XBL content and you think that's a "crap deal"? Like they would just hand out pirate kits for free or something?

This transfer kit copies EVERYTHING on the HDD. Using a memory card to transfer stuff over won't work for everything because a lot of content is not allowed to be copied through the dashboard copy tool.

This kit is the exact opposite of a crap deal. It's FREE, when available, and it solved a huge problem that came up when they announced larger HDD's. Why anyone would complain about it's existence is an absolute mystery in foolishness.

Nows a good time to sell your transfer kit for a lot of money on amazon or ebay.

Heck, they're less than $10 shipped on eBay...they used to go for $30-40.

Might be some coin in picking up a few and reselling them next month...for someone who wants to take the risk, anyway. Sounds boring.

ITS CALLED eBay! I sold my transfer kit for $35 when I bought a 120GB HDD - Just buy one and then sell it back to the next customer. The demand was definitely higher, though, cause game disc installs were just implemented.

Thank goodness I got one as soon as they announced the rebate for the Elite. Otherwise I'd be screwed with all my RockBand DLC.

Uh, because I transferred everything I wanted from my 20 gig HDD to my new elite 120gig HDD in about 2 hours. That's saved games and downloaded content.

Maybe you didn't read what i wrote (or maybe i failed you, by making it too confusing?).
penny arcade ep1 and watchmen games were too big, but their save games weren't. so i just redownloaded them. Only game that wouldn't let me touch it's save was Perfect Dark. oh well, i'd only played the first two levels.

for me, the mem card was a great solution.

again, as i tried to mention : i gave my old xbox to my girlfriend. It still has old DLC and saved games. So i can now log in when i'm at her house - and playrock band DLC. this is : better than having it all deleted by a one time use 7 hour transfer kit.

maybe you are joking?
I suspect we have wildly different interests in it. I was unaware it was free until now. But i don't understand what makes someone eligible. I spent a few months complaining about how I couldn't buy a new xbox because i didn't want to lose all my data, and all the transfer kits on ebay and amazon seems suspect. sooo.

I'm seriously happy with how a simple mem card purchase has worked out. i strongly suspect they want people to use the mem card to transfer poop. think it's weird the original article doesn't mention the mem card. seems like a lot of confusion about what can be transferred and how.

Well the problem now is that the higher capacity Memory Units are not supported by the 360. So transfering from a 20gb or 60gb to a 120/250gb using only a 512mb card will take some patience. Also if you read my last post, it will explain to you how you can fix that Perfect Dark gamesave.

it sucks that the MW2 bundle didn't come with one of these.

It also sucks that i am gonna have to dl the "whole album" track packs since they are bigger than 512k.

i just couldn't justify not getting the bundle, despite these drawbacks.

So I bought a new elite recently, I was selling my old 20GB.

I had one day left until I had to send away my 360 while still having all my stuff on it. I did what any man would have ...

I went to best buy, bought the damn 120GB hard drive, opened it ... used the transfer cable ... transfered all my stuff .... put the transfer cable back into the 120GB HDD and returned it ... I had no other choice, I would hate to do such a thing again but I blame Microsoft ... not best buy nor myself.

Well to answer everyones question, if u transfer once you cant transfer again, microsoft said you can, but i tried it and read alot of duty online and you cant, easy way is hook up the usb to your pooter, transfer data to ur pc put it onto new hardrive and bam! done, doesnt work on macs though, which sucks major piehole! gotta hook up that dusty old crappy xp to do the magic, so yes microsoft yet again fails to satisfy the costumers!! or you can do the memory card trick get all your saved data from games, and download all those rockband tunes and exclusive content over again which trust me if u got ur handy dandy fios, ittl take a nioce good night sleep, better than 7 to 14 hours of waiting, unless you sleep for that amount of time then your good! F Microsoft!!! :)

Just buy it on ebay. This is the kind of thing you are only going to use once. I dont know what people are doing with them after they use it. When I got my elite 2 years ago I sold the transfer kit on ebay for $50 after I used it. Seems the global supply of these should be fully saturated by now.

I'm guessing to transfer Xbox 360 data you HAVE to use this product, like the standardized HDDs?

Criss. How did you fact check this article? Who was the "Microsoft representative" that confirmed this?

I called the 800 number about two hours after you published and ordered one. They were not out of stock.

im sure eveRy xbox owner knew this already, this is for potential newcomers....people looking to buy one...maybe all your friends have got one....etc etc

wel mark my words,.....get a ps3, and after all your m8s xboxs break/blow up (dangerous isnt it) thell' all be jumping into a store to pik up sonys black beauty as well.. peace.

I'm still waiting for the backup-my-HD cable that connects to my PC.

Lock it down with DRM so I can't add/delete/change files that are not on my 360's HD, but for the love of God let me have some semblance of security that all my game saves are SAFE...

I was able to get one on eBay for around $30. I then sold it back for a $5 profit. Ordered one (for free) from MS, I also sold that too for $40. Not bad at all!

definitely not. I have purchased used transfer kits, used them, and then sold them again with no problems. Unless they changed them in the last year or so they can be used many times. Why would they not be reusable? How would you design them to prevent reuse? It is just a cord and a disc with software.

So I have a cable but not the software. I called MS to see if I could get a disc and let slip that I had a cable already. They asked me to send in my cable(Which I got off eBay) in order to get a new kit. I figured I was cutting a corner and saving money when I got the cable off eBay. Didn't realize you need software too.
