OK, so you don't care about Age of Conan any more, but what if you could plow through the content you don't care about even faster? In an unusual attempt to win back subscribers, Funcom's offering double XP throughout November, allowing you to catch up with those poor mopes who had to play through the slow way. Other gifts on offer (depending on how long you subscribe) include a spot in the Secret World beta and a level 40 helmet with a 10% XP modifier.
This new promotion comes just two weeks after Funcom went on a price slashing spree.
Uh, Funcom, just between you, us and the wall ... you're starting to come off as a bit desperate. Just a skosh.

Funcom's last quarterly financial report indicated that Age of Conan had 300,000 subscribers based on their amount of external revenue coming from MMO subscribers. They've done a good job updating Conan with new content for current players, running ads on gaming sites and using promotions like this to keep it in the public eye. It's actually doing so well that they announced an expansion pack, Rise of the Godslayer, back during the summer gaming conventions.
Whether these promotions come off as desperate or not? Silence doesn't help MMOs. They need to aggressively pursue new customers. I think moves like WAR's endless free trial of the Tier 1 experience, or DDO going micro-transaction based, are also quite smart decisions.

What a retarded statement. That's like saying if you aren't a billionaire you should just kill yourself. There's plenty of room for the little guys, and AoC is a really really good MMO.

Well, in that case, I suppose I'll have to make an account and grind away in your "game"!

I think also if you subscribed a whole year, you'll get the coming expansion pack for free...

I tried AOC recently and thought it was great - the design is lovely, some of the areas are really amazing and the combat is better than any other MMO by miles and miles
2 things stopped me signing up beyond the first month tho.
One was that the server I'd chosen (in the EU) was very very quiet and a quick peek onto other servers showed they were also fairly short of players - there were times when it felt like a single-player game.
The other was that the monthly subs (in UKP) is a fair-bit more than WoW (and they're not discounting that) and I just think that WoW £8.99 figure is a benchmark you need to be doing something VERY special to exceed.
For me, it did create the world of Conan tho - and I didn't find the game got boring as I levelling-up either - in fact it was one of the least 'grindy' MMOs I've played.
I tried Aion after it and that felt like a massive step backwards...

Sorry - Aion felt backwards, a return to "kill X of these" and combat against 1 thing at a time gameplay which Conan moved away from quite well.
Aion also felt horribly, horribly generic wheras Conan had a real feel of the REH books - I genunely felt like a Barbarian and all that stuff

Just started playing this game about a month ago and i enjoy it thoroughly. I was going to play it when it came out but i had heard about all of the problems so i decided to wait. The only thing that sucks is that it's underpopulated.

I don't care what they do with Conan to be honest...just update Anarchy Online to the new engine asap so we can start bringing it back into the spotlight. That is still my all-time favorite MMO.

You were clearly not there at launch then - I still can't really think back to that without shuddering...
