Just as Veteran's Day comes to a close, it appears Infinity Ward has finally been able to get the online infrastructure stable for the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2. It appears the third party-powered servers simply couldn't handle the overwhelming demand following the game's launch. Makes sense: it did sell close to a zillion copies. "We expect smooth skies ahead," IW's Robert Bowling stated in a recent tweet. That is, unless all of you rush to your PS3s again now that multiplayer is working yet again. Remember, though: this is simply a server-side fix that allows you to play multiplayer. The party system still won't work until a patch, planned for release on Friday.
Like many Joystiq commenters have pointed out, we're hoping this closure means the end of Modern Warfare 2 stories for a while. Hopefully we can keep this tag closed for at least a few days, before people start murmuring about the inevitable DLC to come.
Update: The PS3 patch for party invites has also gone live. More info can be found here.
[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

Excellent, time to get in on the REAL fun, i.e the multiplayer of course. Anyone else think the single player's story was borderline retarded?(Gameplay was hella fun, I actually had quite a few OMG! moments)

Haven't beaten it yet, but it definitely jumps the shark compared to the first game (so far). It's dramatic, but really over-the-top.

It's sort of like a Tom Clancy novel, except the conspiracies don't really make any sense here.. I'm getting tired of seeing Russian baddies in every war game I play too. It's either Nazis.. or Russians. Seriously can't we just leave the cold war days behind?

Infinity ward, god bless them, can make hella good games.However... their story telling ability is sub-par. This game is no exception. Lots of plot holes, twists, over the top situations and head scratching moments. I have beaten the game on veteran already and I didnt understand a lot of things that happened in this game.

it was like a tom clancy novel, if tom clancy had outsourced it to a 9th grader in a creative writing class. There were SO many plotholes, damn i really wanna discuss it in depth but i hammered through it on regular (did it seem harder than usual to anyone else? maybe it was that god awful blood spray that makes it impossible to see) but i know lots of people would just go to multiplayer and do SP later. But seriously, damn retarded in lots of places. Prisoner 627, Makarov, the general, the "truth", the submarine, fuck! it made no sense!

you said it Dark Wayne... all those examples are things that made no sense. I even asked some friends to explain them and they didn't get it either, or had little understanding of those plot events.

**Possible spoilers**
Yeah the submarine part made no sense to me at all.. One moment he's a baddie trying to launch a freaking nuke which basically blows up the ISS, disables countless American aircraft, vehicles and killing god knows how many innocent people in the process.. Next moment, its all cool and you're talking to him on the radio like he's your best chum and nothing ever happened..
BTW I had to read the story on Wikipedia to gain a better understanding of what the hell was really going on..

okay, fuck it, SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
I just wikipedia'd it too and NOWHERE AT ALL in the game did it say that shepard hired makarov, ever. He shot Roach and Ghost, and says "that's one loose end" that's it, there was nothing else at all to connect him and makarov. Fuck, in the next missions price even talks to makarov and and gets him to tell him where shepard is by remidning him he hates him! What the fuck?!

ZOMG SPOILERS
You're right the game never really tells you that Makarov was Shepherd's hired gun, but that's the only thing that makes sense. Like it said in the Wikipedia article, Shepherd did it so that America could take over Russia and become more awesome and.. oh god i feel stupid typing this already, seriously its like my 7 year old brother came up with this plot

I just got started and got through that airport scene. I need some explanation as to what is going on and how on earth: !!!!!!!!!!!!SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did they get into the US? and wtf is going on? Wish they fleshed the story out more. I think they spent a little too much time on the MP side of things. Now if you want to get to the MP, that is done brilliantly and I am loving everything about that.

Hopefully IW will hire a Hollywood writer for MW3. If not, then at least take a couple of classes on international affairs and screenwriting 101. Getting Hans Zimmer was the step in the right direction in making a more cinematic game.(Although the score seemed like it was recycled from the Dark Knight)

*SPOILERS*
As far as i'm aware the airport was in Russia. Hence the Russians getting so pissed off. If your discussing the mission after (Burger Town??) Then the ADS which you recover playing as Roach was cracked by the Russians and they disabled all the satellites. So the Americans had no idea they were coming until the close range scanners picked them up. It does tell you a little bit about it in the cutscenes if you watch them all.

**SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER**
Price launches the nuke over DC so that it will disable all of the Russians' electronic systems. Sure, it disabled ours too, and likely got a lot of our people killed, but now the Russians are fighting blind on our home turf, so the US would have home field advantage. That part made sense to me...sacrifice few to save many. All the same, I'm now on the mission where you're with Ghost while Price and Soap work a separate location. And yes, Dark Wayne, the SP seems a bit more difficult this time around...on CoD4 I could run through and knife baddies carefully on Normal...now it's like getting my nuts hammered with a meat tenderizer just to move from one area to another. All the same, I like it. I must be a dirty masochist.

Just to clarify on my comment above, a nuclear detonation generates EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) which disables all electronics within the immediate area which aren't shielded against EMP.

I'm aware MW2 isn't everyones cup of tea, but don't make statements for everyone else.

I started out by playing MP Free For All and just started the campaign. But I beat the first two missions in Hardened Mode in like 10 minutes each, that is extremely disappointing, the missions in MW1 were harder.
It feels like I'll beat the campaign in less than 2 hours at this rate. : (
I hope they will offer more Spec Ops missions in the future and why did they scrap Arcade Mode? I liked to reply the SP missions in MW1 with Arcade Mode!

Asian Mode: Actions per minute must be over 300, enemy numbers increased by 400%, headshots only, and must be playing DDR simultaneously.

Maybe IW underestimated the actual number of PS3 owners that actually play games.
IW: "PS3? Pfft, like they'll actually crash our servers. Yeah right..... " ad then BAM!
I'm sure 360 sold more copies, but i'm calling this a close race.

You'd be surprised how apathetic you can be toward one subsection of users, when you didn't get a big bag of cash from their representing company.

I respectfully disagree. I really don't think it will be a close race. Modern Warfare 1 certainly wasn't.And certain games tend to sell more on a certain console. Shooters on the 360 usually sell 2X the number as the Ps3' version. Or in some cases more (Borderlands)
