Xbox owners: You have five days to start thinking of your lives and the lives of others in trivial, 140-character chunks. Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten has told Fast Company that the Dashboard update containing Twitter and Facebook integration will officially arrive on November 17.
If the date seems familiar, you're not losing your marbles: The specific timing for the update was revealed and reneged last month. Now, you'd better hurry up and beat the Chatpad rush at the store.

When I got into the preview a couple weeks ago, I was interested for about thirty minutes before I decided to go back to playing Uncharted.

my thoughts exactly minus the uncharted part. i checked facebook, twitter, last.fm and even browsed around the zune marketplace for a bit. i literally haven't checked any of them again since the day i downloaded them. this is the first update in a while that really adds only extra stuff that i probably won't use. i still need to rent a 1080p movie from the zune marketplace though.

Being in the preview as well, it is a little underwhelming, BUT:
I'm looking forward to this going live, for the Facebook + Xbox Live friends list crossover deal.
I would love to just automatically find people on my Facebook from forever ago who are on live.

As far as the facebook/twitter, I can take it or leave it. I was really impressed with the streaming 1080p however.
I rented one in the first week of the preview, and it worked way better than I thought it would. Started immediately with no download. It stopped and re-buffered maybe 3-4 times during a 2 hour movie ("I love you man"), but the rest of the time it really was full 1080p with great digital sound. Plus, in all fairness, I live in a small town and have a pretty shitty Comcast connection for my internets.
It's kind of pricey, though, which sucks. But it looks waaaay better than anything I've ever streamed on Netflix.
I like where streaming media is heading!!

In the preview as well, screwed around with it as well for only a little bit. Facebook was boring, but there really isn't anyone to link to yet. I loathe everything about Twitter so I didn't bother with that. The new Zune store seems cool, although they didn't have the damn Dexter episode I wanted to watch so desperately last night.
Last.fm is pretty awesome, I like that...

I second going back to Uncharted... Uncharted 2 is awesome, so is Demon's Souls for that matter (I've logged 55 hours on my DS save file so far and still lots to do and people to invade)... Anyway yea this update is not very impressive, especially considering I have been able to look at Facebook and Twitter on my PS3's browser for years.

Funny you guys mention the "chatpad" rush... I got the update a few weeks ago and I did rush to get a used one for $18... and I just realized my life has become that predictable.... :/

I bought a used one for 12...but it was before this update.
The only thing I use it for is typing in all those redemption codes. I mean, Dragon Age alone had six! SIX!

Hey, not to rain on the parade Prog and Brad, but did you know that any USB keyboard can be plugged into the 360, and used to type?
I'm stunned every time I hear about someone buying the chat pad - I just keep a spare USB keyboard plugged into the USB port on the back of my 360.

A good USB keyboard costs more than 12 dollars...

I got the chat pad for ZIP, sort of. You can get the 12 month Gold with the chatpad, headset and PGR 4 for about $10 more than the regular 12 month card. $69.99 CAD.

There was an ad on the dashboard yesterday that announced that date (the one about the Free Gold Weekend that's coming next week), so they didn't do a good job of keeping this date a surprise.
I hope they reworked the apps into more logical positions since the dashboard is getting really cluttered quickly. There's no need for a Music Marketplace tab if it's only there for Last.fm and to advertise more music videos that I can't believe anybody would buy.

Maybe I'm more of a music geek than most gamers, but I've really enjoyed having Last.fm. It plays a photo slideshow of the band that's currently playing, which is nice, and I like to just let it do its thing while I'm working around the house. Plus, I don't have to bother with setting my computer to output to my home theater receiver anymore.

I'm with you on that one... I've been playing Last.fm on my xbox daily. Love the fact that you can use the Xbox remote to control the interface as well.

Would be great if you can stream and listen to LastFM while gaming or browsing the menus.

If last.fm could play in the background it would be a great addition. At the moment I can't see myself ever using it.

Well for some reason, despite being an international site that allows content in Australia, the Xbox LIVE version is only in US and UK.
How awesome right?

I am very pleased with the new Zune Marketplace, the quality is fantastic! I'm still trying to figure out how they manage to do this Instant 1080p. Anyhow, I hope they will start providing a wider selection of movies to purchase (especially in HD). It's very random what films can be bought, and what format. The other features aren't bad, they're just not quite my thing.

Hulu is going subscription based in early 2010 so don't expect it free.
Oh, I heard that on Diggnation so I guess it is not a fact. I will look for a link but it had something to do with the parent company wanting to make MORE money.
Hooray for capitalism!

I know. I'm actually glad I am using the facebook via xbox a lot. I feel like the purchase was justified... even if it is just for a month or two ;)

People are overrated these days. I just canceled my facebook and twitter account after reading about how lead generator scams and stuff are on facebook. If you want to read about it, it is a tech crunch article (that I found linked from and IGN article).
No loss for me, the friends I have do know a computer from a box of dicker doodles.

Okay, now how about adding a USEFUL, REQUESTED feature, like making the friends list 200 or 500 names rather than the barely usable 100?
