While it may initially seem the only game releasing this holiday season is something called Modern Warfare 2, some titles -- like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed II and Nintendo's New Super Mario Bros. Wii -- actually have the guts to stand up against the most important game of all time ever seriously. Game rental service Gamefly recently gathered data on which titles its users are actually looking forward to this holiday season, offering the info in one convenient list.
For the all platforms list, the three titles mentioned are unsurprisingly present and joined by other popular recent releases like Batman: Arkham Asylum and Halo 3: ODST. On the home console side of things, the Xbox 360 and PS3's most popular title is obviously Modern Warfare 2, while the Wii's big hit is, also expectedly, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. For handhelds, gamers are ticking Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story and Dissidia: Final Fantasy for rental on the DS and PSP, respectively.
Overall, the list is fairly unsurprising, though we guess one could argue that it's surprising all of these people want to rent Modern Warfare 2 and haven't already purchased it.

You know instead of taking the time to see how many people are renting MW2 they could be getting more copies so I can actually play it.

dunno if your just trying to troll... but...
I really just cant get myself on the mw2 bandwagon. i played it for about 45min today... and its a good game. its pretty. but its nothing new. its just another tac shooter. in fact its gone backwards with the limitations theyve put multiplayer and the pc restrictions...
and certainly not "the most important game of all time seriously" .. thats like saying halo3 was the most important, then gta4, just because they took biggest day1 sales in their time.
whatever.. wont buy it.. not my pint o draft.

I agree, MW2 really isn't that amazing. I mean sure its good but you kinda feel let down, maybe its just because it was overhyped.

I made a big mistake on the first Modern Warfare, I played Killzone 2 first. After that, I couldn't get into Modern Warfare. Since I bought it, I completed it, but all the while craving Killzone 2 the entire time.
If MW2 is the same as the first, then it maybe a rent, maybe.

well yes...it's been built up so much that it's inevitable that you will be underwhelmed and it'll be impossible for you to be just whelmed

It's actually not on my radar. I'm sure I'll pick it up at some point, but with the billions of other games that have just come out or will be coming out in the next few weeks, my time and money is extremely valuable. MW2 doesn't really do anything to earn either of those from me.

Its really becoming quite irritating that every other story I read involves MW2. Dont get me wrong, I like a good shooter game every now and then but come on, is it really that earth shattering that another shooter game came out? Another game where you run around in linear levels and shoot enemys whether they be aliens, nazis or terrorists? It all the same old game underneath all the window dressing and storyline. Am I the only one?

No, you're not. But how is that different from every other game, hyped to oblivion or otherwise? A truly new game is a rare commodity (Team ICO's turnover is about four years anyways).
I've been playing splitscreen all evening - and I'm enjoying it immensely. So glad they allow you to build classes offline now instead of relying on stock classes (don't know how it was in W@W, never played splitscreen accept for Nazi Zombies). It's fun, and it has enough changes (many of which I've been hoping for, and I haven't paid a damn bit of attention to MW2 news) to warrant a play if you are even remotely interested in the series. HUGE maps ftw!
Am I the only one who's tired of hearing the same people complain about this game's persistent presence in articles lately?

I don't know how fair it is to say MW2 sucks, I haven't played it, but if it's anything like the first Modern Warfare I'm sure it's a good game. That being said I really don't give a damn about the game anyway for exactly the reason stated above. I've played games before where you run around and shoot things. I don't care if it's in the future, WWII, or James Bond. It's just more of the same. Next.

JeezWhiz87, as opposed to what? The games where you run around and hit people with swords and spells? the games that you race cars? the games where you jump on enemies heads? the games where you move people that do all of the above? The game where you build things for AI's to run around in/on? You don't like FPS, fair enough just say so, but don't make out the genre to be tired when so many other genres can be described the same way.

MW2 is quite possibly the most over hyped and over rated game ever. Even more so than Halo 3 was. They are both generic FPS games. Big deal. Get over it.

you guys may think that because most people that have commented have the same opinion that MW2 sucks, then maybe the majority of Joystiq readers agree, but you are wrong, most people think this game is amazing are too busy playing this game instead of complaining on the internet
i'm at class right now and i can't play during class :(

i'm thinking this blog shouldnt be called ps3fanboy dot com, well i suppose that it isnt, anymore, but even the joystiq name isn't appropriate anymore.
It should either be called ModernWarefareAnyNumberFanboy dot com, or AnyShooterCuzTheyEffingRawkThaHizzouse dot com, or I'veJustJumpedOnTheBandwagonOfWhoEverIThinkCurrentlyRulez dot com
I need to find a gaming blog that isn't such a fanboy to games that are supposed to be amazing, just because.
It sucks living in the USA and hating Shooters, it's all people effing eat sleep and breathe over here. I need to move. >.

I am sooooo tired of people complaining about too many articles on this or that subject, wtf! Read the post title, if you don't like it scroll down, it's not rocket science. I personally can not get enough Modern Warfare coverage right now, two weeks ago I could not get enough uncharted 2 coverage, these ARE big games. If they aren't to your tastes read the next post. Is there something you think is not getting enough coverage?
Posts like yours add nothing to the conversation, even a troll post is more entertaining to read.

Therefore you should be reading "I'veJustJumpedOnTheBandwagonOfWhoEverIThinkCurrentlyRulez dot com"
Posts like mine are posts just like yours. My opinion and my views. I am entitled to them just as you are.
You might want to figure out that it's a comment on a particular post, there is no "conversation" as you claim. It's a collection of posts relating to an article. There can be posts relating to posts, sure, but mine was not. It was a separate thought and not attached to another comment.
I'm tired of people complaining about things, too. Typically they don't have any substance to back them up. From what I can see, however, I'm not the only one sick of the state of gaming and the overabundance of shooters(and people/media outlets who think those style games are the greatest thing since sliced bread).
Aye yi yi.
So, does anyone have a decent gaming blog they could recommend that doesn't cover shooters as the greatest thing ever typically? It'd be pretty sweet for when this one is loaded with FPS coverage.

Rent-to-buy new games from GF and save at least ten bucks off the MSRP. GF's 'regular' price for MW 2 right now is $49.99 -- add your member discount and there's at least $12-15 in cash savings. Not bad.

I'm one of those gamefly'ing COD:MW2. Got shipped on Monday, should be here today or tomorrow (Austin to Denver). Hopefully I can finish off Uncharted 2 tonight.
I figure I'll play the single player, which is bound to be good, and maybe dabble a little in multiplayer, then send it back. Then I'll pick it up used next year sometime when there's a million copies floating around.
I don't get much time to game between work and my 16 month old, so there's no rush. I'll just play some COD4:MW multiplayer if I crave a fix before I pick it up used.

I use my gamefly account even for games that I plan to buy sometimes. If you can get them to ship your game on the first day it comes out so that you know nobody else has ever played it you can click "keep it" and have a brand new game with your membership discount.
I didn't want to wait even a few days for my MW2 although now I should have because I'm still playing through Dragon's Age and not starting MW until I finish.
