- Nintendo Dpad (85/100): "Overall, the game is just what you would expect from an HD game like Call of Duty 4 being ported to Wii. Everything is there, from the great multiplayer and single player modes, to Wii specific controls that really trump those found on other consoles. The only real bad part is that the graphics needed a major step down for the port, and we would have liked WiiSpeak support for those who prefer that, though it is not necessary."
- ONM UK (80/100): "Given the extra two years Treyarch had to squeeze every last drop of polish from the Wii, this is underwhelming visually. It looks okay for a Wii game - that's the dreaded caveat - but it's not even up there with Metroid Prime: Corruption. Having said that, Modern Warfare is still an excellent shooter packed with options and it should be a big player online so we can welcome it to the Wii family."
- IGN (70/100): "Unfortunately, Reflex Edition on Wii just doesn't cut it as a Call of Duty branded game or as a top-tier Wii first-person shooter. The framerate is jumpy, the pointer tracking needs some serious polish, and while most of the elements of COD4 are included, none of them are given enough fine-tuning to truly excel."
Metareview: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Reflex

When the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was announced for the Wii, we kinda had to do a double-take on the whole thing. Would one of the current generation's most popular games be done justice on the Wii? Well, according to what few reviews have made their way online, yes ... and no!

The is the WII, why is anyone surprised? To be honest, I'm amazed it looks as good as it does... did anyone see the side-by-side comparison? They at least seemed to do their best to match the gameplay, but I was never expecting the Wii to be able to pull off anything remotely close.

Exactly. Everyone's like, OMG the graphics are crap... but when you stop comparing them to the PS3/60 version (because that's blatantly ridiculous), all you're really left with is that games like Metroid Prime 3 look much better. Which they do, but that's very largely down to art design (and probably level design to ensure any necessary restrictions in draw distance, number of onscreen enemies, etc - something you can't easily do in a port), not poor technology.
The surprising thing about this game is not that the graphics are shite compared to the HD versions, but that the game itself seems to be actually pretty decent - and, graphics aside, doesn't appear to have lost any significant features in the process. In other words Wii (and probably PS2 for that matter) is capable of doing pretty much everything developers are likely to use on the HD consoles, except the graphics.
If this game were a Wii exclusive and the other platform versions had never existed, you can bet it'd get a higher score. As it is, releasing it a year later seems... er... somewhat pointless. But, hey, reducing the resolution/quality of a stack of existing assets is a lot cheaper than making new ones...

Hay I know trayarch was doing other thing in those 2 years. I said activison the owners of the IP not trayarch hire a other compony to handle a ground up build for the wii. I do think the controls are best on wii. I also don't agree with ign the only time I had experienced frame rate issues was like the first 30 sec while the level loads. But I am just wondering is anyone really experiencing a big frame rate issue? And If so when did you buy your wii?

Amazing game. I highly recommend it. Have put in about 20+ hours into it and am enjoying every minute.
The graphics look incredible, it's one of the sharpest Wii games out there. While the graphics are certainly not as sharp as those of the XBox360 or the PS3, they are damn good.
The entire game in all its glory is there. ALL the levels, ALL the online functionality that made it the best FPS ever made are intact. And it's made much more enjoyable because of the controls. If you are used to dual analog then it may take some readjustments, but if you are used to the Wii Remote it's a piece of cake.
You're aiming the Remote just like a gun. It's simple, basic, and extremely satisfying.
This version drives owners of the PS3 and XBox360 crazy. They argue, "our graphics are obviously superior, so why are you wasting your time on this piece of junk?!"
Because playing games on the Wii uses more than just your mind and thumbs. It involves your body. Incorporating the body into videogames is what got it out of the realm of the nerd. The nerd only uses his head.
The body is where it's at. That's why they named this version Reflex. On the Wii it is much more than just a mind game.
Feel it. Don't think it.

While I'm passing on this until a used copy is available (yeah, I'd rather give my money to EB for used than Activision as new, suck on on it Kodick) - it suprises me that IGN would be making IR comments.
We've seen this same type of complaint form many users, even here - it makes me wonder, have any of these people calibrated their system? What is their orientation between remote and sensor bar? Something has got to be up.
I'm curious, because in all the many hours of FPS gametime on Wii (aside from garbageware such as RS from poopysoft) I've come to love the remote interface as an input method for FPS - and have not had ANY of these issues. I have launch hardware as well. Granted I most always disable waggle controls and use buttons and IR only.
If this is on par with W@W, then it's going to be a great game. I thought Treyarch did a fantastic job with W@W.

if you want a good community full of people to play this game against, visit WiiUnite.org.
and the game looks good for a Wii game to me. I don't know why everyone has to try and compare Wii games to PS360 games. They are never going to have as good of graphics. It's the controls that make the Wii better for shooters. It's just too bad the Wii doesn't get many good shooters....

I really think that most of you that are commenting on this should try playing Reflex before trashing it so bad. As stated before they are using PRE BETA screen shots. And I'm pretty sure that any wii owner you will talk to did not buy the system for it's graphics, we knew the limitations going in. Having owned the 360 and the Wii versions of the game, they are exactly the fucking same. It's a port damnit its the same thing. All the campaign levels and all the online modes are the SAME. So how is the 360 version sooo superior to the wii version? Oh ya, the graphics. Seriously, do you fanboys have any other problems with the game? The IGN review is so far off there is not cursor problem whatsoever and I rarely notice a framerate dip. Unlike the 360 version I can jump in an online match with the press of a button rather than waiting forever to join. The controls are fully customizable which is great and it's really entertaining to point and shoot rather than trying to move a joystick around. When playing the wii version with my friends, their main problem is that they cant simply point the cursor steadily on the screen. Frustrated they throw the controller and say how awful the wii is and how the graphics are horrible. The fanboy views are so narrowsighted, compare facts please. And gameplay>graphics forever.
