We understand Square Enix's desire to branch out, but its latest move is just ... it's incomprehensible. To go from being the world's premier developer of RPGs to creators of shower paraphernalia? It makes no sense, but it's what's happening -- according to a recent Famitsu article, Squeenix is now working on a new Luffa. This is uncharted territory for the company, but we can safely assume that it will be a very high quality Luffa, designed specifically for people with soft skin and outrageously spiky hair.
Update: It's been brought to our attention that the Famitsu article actually reveals that Taito (which Squeenix owns) is working on a new installment in the Lufia franchise (known as Estopolis in Japan), which looks a lot like "Luffa," so you really can't blame us for getting confused. No platforms have been announced, but the team from the original Lufia & the Fortress of Doom will be behind the wheel, so it should be fairly reminiscent of the classic SNES RPGs of yesteryear. Also, it probably won't help you clean yourself in the shower. Sorry about that.

If the graphics in that star are in-game textures, you're probably right.

Put that frown upside down.
I bet it'll be on the DS. :)
A system where developers are still unafraid to use great pixel art, without the pressure to have to include all the latest threedee bloom and shader crap that the kids like. For now. Don't worry, soon all commercial 2D games will disappear and you can have your super detailed emo teens with every single hair in their spikey haircut rendered in perfect threedeeeeeee.

I understand if you don't like the Wii due to lack of HD graphics, excessive shovelware, & the like...however the DS is a great system for RPG's.

It's not hate of the DS, it's just that every Snes RPG is released on Nintendo DS, it end's up looking like the same as before (it looks better, but feels the same) and the franchise suffers, since it's not being ''upgraded'', you know ?

Appropriate how you put "upgraded" in quote marks. i.e. most modern sequels to older games are not being upgraded at all, on the contrary sometimes. Most of these DS games are better sequels than they would likely ever have been on the PS3 or 360 in THREEDEEE plus added linearity and hand-holding.

I have realized that joystiq is full of people hating Nintendo for "lack of HD grahpics" yet think PC gamers are elitists & 360 / PS3 fanboys are always at each other's throats.
Yep...that pretty much sums it up.

I could care less about HD graphic. However, I believe the DS should stick to 2D sprites and not bother with hideous 3D.

The problem with many a western gamer is that it tends to be a major GRAPHICS WHORE... in America!

I wish I had bought that (SNES) copy of Chrono Trigger @ the flea market a few months ago.
When I get the extra cash I need to pickup the DS Chrono Trigger sometime. Especially considering its like $20 now.
I picked up FF Dawn of Souls & FF IV Advance used @ Gamestop not that long ago. For $10/each I consider it a worthwhile purchase.

You have excellent taste, sir. Granted, Chrono Trigger is at the top of my list, but is closely followed by Terranigma, Lufia II, and Final Fantasy 6.
There's no question that this is good news, especially if this is given the care that Lufia II received. The last two entries have been pretty weak.

@ Darth:
I don't detect anything troll-like. Unless you'd consider the trolls I recently defeated in Oblivion. Fanboyism is a worldwide epidemic...no matter how much you try to combat it, it will never be enough to stop it.
Every system (PC included) has it's pluses & minuses in regards to games that are or are not available (or how crappy the port of the game may be).
@ hector:
I agree about the sprites. I have FFCC Ring of Fates...I think it would have worked better w/ sprites instead of 3D.

Hell yeah!
Loved the monster raising aspect of it, for some reason. Hope it's a little more robust this go around.

I loved Lufia II. It's one of my favorite classic RPGs. Here's hoping for some crazy difficult puzzles. I remember later Lufia games going with randomized dungeons though... hope they don't do that. I love the Ancient Cave in Lufia II but a whole game full of random dungeons doesn't really suit me.

Hope it's Wii, if not then DS, needs to stick to Nintendo. Please not 360 or PSP, ugh, it would sell like crap on those. PS3 would be okay though.
