Crysis and Crysis Warhead just $15 on Steam this weekend
If you actually possess the fungible assets required to purchase a government-grade supercomputer -- you know, the kind with an actual human brain built right into it -- then we imagine you don't concern yourself too much with time-sensitive discounts. Still, we thought we'd bring this to your attention: If you own an impossibly powerful computing device, you can buy Crysis or Crysis Warhead on Steam this weekend for just $15 a piece. Well, you can buy them regardless of your computer's hardware specs -- but if you hope you play them, you better think about investing in some cerebral processing power.

...impossibly powerful?
I just built a computer for $700, and it can play Crysis at max settings at 1680x1050 with narry a hitch. I know it was pretty killer when it came out, by parts prices have fallen a lot since it came out.
Aerothorn @ Nov 13th 2009 4:37PM
How's THAT for a redundant sentence.
Rirath @ Nov 13th 2009 4:47PM
I'm planning on building a new PC soon - mind sharing your specs?
Courtney @ Nov 13th 2009 4:50PM
You...you know it's just a joke at this point...right?
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 13th 2009 4:57PM
I think the reason people keep saying you need a supercomputer to play Crysis is so they can justify why they dropped $5,000 on their computer.
Bloo @ Nov 13th 2009 4:59PM
Once you finally get the game "running without a hitch" you still need to deal with other glitches in the game like falling through the level (on a certain part towards the end) and a final boss you may or may not be able to kill depending what your resolution is set at.
Crysis really pissed me off. I spent a couple grand at the time to get it running perfect not knowing the game itself becomes broken. One of the few games I have ever not finished (and I'm at the last guy).
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Nov 13th 2009 5:05PM
Aerothorn, when you can run Crysis at 1920x1200 with max settings, then you can brag.
Aerothorn @ Nov 13th 2009 5:08PM
Rirath: Happy to share my specs, with the caveat that they're from around June and I haven't been keeping up with hardware updates since then, so you'll want to do some research of your own (as prices have either fallen on things or the parts have been replaced by newer versions). Might be useful for a guideline, though.
PS: Antec Earthwatts E380
Graphics: GTS 250 (Asus Dark Knight Quad-Pipe Cooling variant - no longer made)
Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
RAM: G.Skill 4GB (2X2GB) DDR2 1066
Case: Raidmax Smilodon (no PSU variant)
MB: ECS Black Series GF8200A
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940
CD drive I yanked from an old computer, ditto with sound card (though the latter is irrelevant when talking about what will/won't run Crysis, and intergrated sound is fine for most people these days).
Aerothorn @ Nov 13th 2009 5:12PM
To be clear, that's the 1GB variation of the GTS 250.
Aerothorn @ Nov 13th 2009 5:14PM
Oh, and apparently (not including shipping, including rebates) it was $600. Go me.
gonintendo @ Nov 13th 2009 5:28PM
our pc's are very similar with the exception of the video card (i have a 4850)
Rirath @ Nov 13th 2009 5:52PM
Thanks, appreciated. Yeah, I've got a bit of research to do. The last full PC I built was around 2001. That kept me at least mid-range for a few years, and since then I've been running mainly on a laptop. It's fine for most things, but not past low-range gaming. (That's went to consoles.)
Getting ready to get back into the desktop setups. I find it's always good to see what other people go for, if for nothing else than it's interesting.
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Nov 13th 2009 10:17PM
I'm sorry, MGS4 is not that good looking. :\
Chibi Chaingun - blackhivemedia.com @ Nov 13th 2009 10:21PM
Ruh roh. That was supposed to be a reply to the comment below this one.
Meh @ Nov 15th 2009 10:24AM
"To be clear, that's the 1GB variation of the GTS 250." If you're on a 32-bit system, that means you're not using 1GB of your RAM.
Alex @ Nov 13th 2009 4:39PM
People still act as if Crysis is the amazing graphics game still, it has great graphics, but now there are games with better graphics, and not only that but that take much higher requirements.
The Pirate @ Nov 13th 2009 4:41PM
Such as?
DamonTheMoney @ Nov 13th 2009 4:44PM
Could you name a game that looks better than Crysis?
Admittedly, Uncharted 2 had better animations, but no game (that I've played) has lighting or textures as good as Crysis.
Katana Master @ Nov 13th 2009 4:48PM
No, there is no game out there with better graphics. Uncharted 2 is the closest but still crysis is the best
Aerothorn @ Nov 13th 2009 5:09PM
Gonna have to agree with the other people - Crysis was the best, and Crysis: Warhead (by my understanding) edged it out a wee little bit in terms of graphics, but nothing else really compared. MGS4 is close, though.
The Pirate @ Nov 13th 2009 5:22PM
MGS4 and Uncharted 2 come close, but Crysis blows everything out of the water, graphics wise. This is coming from a PS3 fanboy!
JXCgunrunna @ Nov 13th 2009 4:46PM
So the question is should i get Crysis or Warhead? I have a 2.83 Ghz core 2 quad and GTX260 216 so I should be able to play either one but which is better?
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 13th 2009 4:49PM
My friend prefered the original. Said Warhead was shorter and not as pretty.
Kleptomaniac @ Nov 13th 2009 4:54PM
I haven't played Crysis but I've played about 4 hours of Crysis warhead and I'd say its a steal at 15 euro. It has a nice mix of gameplay you can go sneaky or just blast your way through those koreans. I think it comes with Crysis wars as well but I haven't tried that out.
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 13th 2009 4:58PM
Play Crysis before Warhead - Warhead doesn't make much sense without playing Crysis first.
kojo87 @ Nov 13th 2009 4:58PM
i snagged both and it appears that Steam gave me Crysis Wars too. not sure if that automatically comes with one of the two or if you have to get the bundle.
heres hoping my Phenom II X4 940 and dual HD 4870 1GB cards can handle everything at 1920x1200. never tried Crysis on this system.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 13th 2009 5:07PM
I would think you could run it, Kojo. My friend with a Core2Quad and a GTX 285 runs it on max settings without a hitch.
CaramelZappa @ Nov 13th 2009 5:07PM
From what I've heard Crysis Warhead is shorter, but prettier without being as hard on your GFX card. I have Crysis but I stopped playing it because there were a bunch of hacks for the multiplayer, allowing people to get kills while in spectator mode. Ruined the game for me. Last I heard decided not to fix it in Crysis so that they could focus on Crysis warhead, which apparently doesn't have this problem. So if you're in it for the multiplayer (Which is pretty damn good actually) I'd for for warhead.
Raffi @ Nov 13th 2009 4:47PM
Maximum discount!
HighFiveJesus @ Nov 13th 2009 10:59PM
yeah i gave in and got warhead.
DBuck_Eye @ Nov 13th 2009 4:50PM
"a government-grade supercomputer -- you know, the kind with an actual human brain built right into it"
How would that be powerful? I'm a pretty smart guy, and I'm sure that I couldn't render something like Crysis at top frame rate, even if I used the power of Imagination.
Duck4827 @ Nov 13th 2009 4:55PM
I don't think you understand the notion of what is being suggested, the presence of a human brain would provide the intelligence and logic behind finding a solution to the problem (outlaying high quality graphics), the b rain wouldn't actually be involved in the rendering process.......
baef @ Nov 13th 2009 4:59PM
Duck, I want to bite you
Meh @ Nov 15th 2009 10:29AM
"I'm a pretty smart guy, and I'm sure that I couldn't render something like Crysis at top frame rate, even if I used the power of Imagination."
Really? Because research on people who have hallucinations suggests that they can be pretty fucking realistic - from light reflecting under human skin to shadows blending seamlessly with the environment. Hell, look at your own dreams.
Courtney @ Nov 13th 2009 4:50PM
The more interesting deal to me this weekend is for Overlord, Overlord two and the expansion for $8.75:
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2464/
I had some passing interest in those games, but at that price, I'm not sure I can say no.
zero2dash @ Nov 13th 2009 4:58PM
I picked up the Overlord pack last night (already have Crysis).
I'd say the Overlord deal is a lot better than the Crysis one.
AoE @ Nov 13th 2009 5:05PM
@zero2dash,
Yes, simple logic dictates that a 75% off deal is indeed better than a 50% off deal.
Zephiel @ Nov 13th 2009 5:13PM
yeah i went for that deal too.
Anthony @ Nov 13th 2009 4:51PM
I tried the demo of this game..... I couldn't even get further than the menu's.
opifex @ Nov 13th 2009 4:56PM
Useless deal..
On amazon, you can purchase Crysis - Maximum Edition for £13 which comes with Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars.
Instead of paying £20 for Crysis and/or Warhead.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 13th 2009 5:08PM
Wha?
Crysis ME is 37 on the US Amazon store.
CaramelZappa @ Nov 13th 2009 5:11PM
Well here in the US amazon has that pack for $37. So with steam you still save $7, and you don't have to wait for it to ship or go through the trouble of installing the latest patches.
Slayer @ Nov 13th 2009 5:11PM
That's awesome.
JXCgunrunna @ Nov 13th 2009 5:13PM
Thanks guys. I think ill get Both. From what iv seen cry engine doesn't make Mick use of dual gpu cards.

Joystiq what about every Overlord game for $10 pretty much.

Can they play Crysis?

No mention of the Overlord series being only $8.50? Shameful!
