Dante's Inferno anime remains faithful to Visceral source
We're pretty certain Dante Alighieri is rolling in his grave right now, as this anthology of multiple interpretations of Visceral Games' interpretation of the original epic poem is so very far removed from the source. But hey, it's Alighieri's fault for not having the foresight to write about someone's head getting chopped in half!
Expect The Animated Epic to arrive on DVD and Blu-ray in February, the same month as the game.

Dante wrote about much more violent stuff than merely chopping someone's head in half.
"I saw two shades frozen in a single hole
packed so close, one head hooded the other one;
the way the starving devour their bread, the soul
above had clenched the other with his teeth
where the brain meets the nape."
That's one guy eating another guy's head for all eternity (there's no redemption in Dante's Hell).

There's no redemption in no-one's Christian vision of hell as far as I know. You can only get moved from Purgatory. Once you get to hell, you better like it, because there's no going back!

Indeed, though in EA/Visceral's Hell there seems to be, with the option of 'saving' the souls of those you encounter. It undermines the one of the most hellish aspects of the Inferno: to be eternally denied Paradise - if you can get out, it's not that bad!
Anti-Villian @ Nov 13th 2009 9:12AM
Why do they keep making these?
Asmerom (PSN: neon6plz) (XBL: reo6) (Waiting for NMH2) @ Nov 13th 2009 10:40AM
Maybe because it's still popular.

Definitely interested. The Dead Space Downfall DVD was okay, not great. This seems to have more potential.

BlackRonin357 @ Nov 13th 2009 9:37AM

JNub @ Nov 13th 2009 10:14AM
im kind of disapointed by that,i think it should have had a much darker look to it than pokemon cheesy jap crap, even the ones from the game look way better

I can see why you've named yourself "nub." Japan's animation is currently the best in the world. There're some talented American animators, but if you're looking for something that isn't kiddy, the LAST place you're going to go looking is here.

Looks more like Aeon Flux than Pokemon
Discotheque @ Nov 13th 2009 10:27AM
Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are literally the only animes I care for.
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 13th 2009 10:33AM
You're so cool, can I be your friend?
Anti-Villian @ Nov 13th 2009 10:45AM
I don't care for any anime, I judge something by how entertaining it is.
Discotheque @ Nov 13th 2009 11:07AM
Oh great. WINterfang once again graces us with his useless comment.

While I agree with your taste, I find your limitations astounding:
Hellsing
Evangelion
Visions of Escaflowne
Bezerk
Outlaw Star
That's just to name a few, try watching something new, you may enjoy it.
Discotheque @ Nov 13th 2009 7:03PM
I enjoyed Evangelion. I should have said:
Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are ahead of the pack.

HARUHI!
WINterfang ( Now with the power to piss you off ) @ Nov 13th 2009 10:48AM
LOL he even talks like Kratos.
BEATUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUR!!!
Anemos @ Nov 13th 2009 11:27AM
*Sigh* "Samauri Champloo".
Out of the anime listed in the trailer, the spelled the best out of the three wrong.
mikeisthegreatest @ Nov 13th 2009 12:03PM
Is it just me or does this look awesome. :)
I can't wait to watch this next year.
gatotsu911 @ Nov 13th 2009 1:15PM
Wow, that looks surprisingly dumb. Not that I had terribly high expectations given the source material (the game, that is) but still, this looks terribly below-par considering the talent that is allegedly involved.
TheBrainninja @ Nov 13th 2009 2:07PM
It looks less anime-y, more like Western animation. At least in some of the character designs. I can see some parallels with the works cited, (at least Blood: The Last Vampire and Ghost In The Shell, the only ones I'm familiar with), but it does look decidedly...different.
kevinkyyro @ Nov 15th 2009 11:05PM
agreed, looks terrible
vhayste @ Nov 13th 2009 1:14PM
Wow, I'll surely get this when its out! :)
Supa_Mario @ Nov 13th 2009 3:21PM
I never expected so many Joystiqers to be such literature purists. I'm excited for the game and now this as well.
Leminnes @ Nov 13th 2009 3:41PM
I'm not sure about this, but if the directors of this are the ones behind those 6 anime listed at the beginning, the six should be:
Mamoru Oshii - Ghost In A Shell
Hiroyuki Kitakubo - Blood: The Last Vampire
Daniel DelPurgatorio and Mike Smith - Tales of the Black Freighter (Which I never really thought of as an Anime, but okay)
Shukou Murase - Ergo Proxy
Shinichiro Watanabe - Samurai Champloo (But because they say Samurai Champloo and not Cowboy Bebop, it makes me think it's not going to be him. I hope it is, though.)
Wait, that's only 5. Where's the sixth?
Either way, that's an amazing line-up of directors, ESPECIALLY if Shinichiro Watanabe is directing one because in my personal opinion, he is the best anime director of our time. I'll defiantly freak out of Yoko Kanno does the music for it.

Here's an idea: Lets get it jap voiced so it doesn't sound like shit.
