In the dilapidated, war-torn streets of the gaming industry, the Console Wars™ have taken their toll on not only the landscape, but also the inhabitants of this once peaceful land. With war mongerers Sony and Microsoft preparing their next wave of battle tech -- motion control devices like the "PlayStation Motion Controller" (rumored: 'Sphere') and Project Natal, respectively -- Nintendo's battle general, Reggie Fils-Aime, recently continued his criticism of rivals by commenting to wartime reporters at Gamasutra that Nintendo isn't really shaking on its Balance Board.
General Fils-Aime said that Nintendo will "applaud anything that will further expand the market of game players" and that the expansion of this kind of technology is really "in everyone's best interest," even though he admits Nintendo could lose some of its marketshare as a result. However, he does feel confident in Nintendo's "head-start of over 51 million controllers."

They have severely neglected the Zapper and the Balance Board (outside of that awkward usage in Punch-Out!!), but Wii Speak is getting a bit more support from them (Endless Ocean 2 will feature it), and Motion Plus has at least three more games lined up for it: Dynamic Slash, Span Smasher, and of course, Zelda Wii

we all know reggie is a cocky bastard :), but he's right..... If sony or microsoft can make better motion control tech (and games that fully utilize it) we're gonna be in for a fun motion controlled future.

What are these 'console wars' you speak of, Joystiq? Everyone on this site treats each other with respect and thoughtfully responds to each others comments. There is peace. Right?

Hello, my name is Shadowbender, and I come from the ruthless, war-torn world of 2078. Console Wars still rage on, and it is what brought the end to our world. Sony made these monstrous machines out if their Blu-Ray Drive, Microsoft sold families across the whole world rigged consoles that were set to blow up at a specific time, and Nintendo created a mind-control novelty that soon became a weapon for disaster. Only few survivors are left. Microsoft is trying to rob me of everything I have, and Sony keeps on spying on me with their wretched cameras. I have a feeling these are my last days. The Console Wars seem fun now, but it will bring chaos and madness.

Eventually Sony and Microsoft will release a wii-esque consoles that only use motion controls. Then Nintendo will release a console that uses only controllers- it will be revolutionary, and sell 100 million units.
Microsoft and Sony will go bankrupt.
Remember, no matter what you do, Nintendo WINS!.

While I think it's great everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon and I'm sure both parties will bring some fun action to the table, that Sony controller looks like one of two things to me;
1. some sort of a flashlight or mic for some kids game
or
2. Something that someone at some point is going to stick up their or someone elses ass. That bulbous sphere is just ASKING for it.

Once they start making bad pop songs, then you can say they are the new Disney.

Disney stopped being interesting to me after they went full steam into 3D animations. Didn't help that one of the composers (Howard Ashman) died early (in 1991). Loved the songs from Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Lion King [all theatrical releases by the way, the video sequels were just blah for the most part]. Toy Story was pretty much the last Disney movie I've watched in 3D (that I felt was any good) and my friends have been telling me to watch Wall-e.
I mean, come on, how can you NOT love The Little Mermaid's French chef going "Le poisson (fish), le poisson, how I love le poisson" as he cuts off their heads and makes a meal out of them?
There's also the awesomeness of Aladdin's "Friend Like Me" which had funnyman Robin Williams going on a roll.
Yeah, you can tell that I'm pretty old if I love classics like these.

Yea, Aladdin is definitely still one of the best films Disney's ever made.
And you should see Wall-E. The story is good, there's some clever comedy, and the visuals are amazing.

@melloncollie:
Good guess on my age. I'm 25, actually. Pinocchio, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmations, Jungle Book, Snow White, and Cinderella were Disney movies that I have on Betamax.
@Ashitaka:
Yeah, I know that Pixar made those films but it still doesn't change the fact that ever since Disney abandoned traditional animation, their movies haven't been that great.
Put it this way, I found Mulan and Hercules to be more entertaining than Finding Nemo. I mean, I liked how there was some sense of authenticity (i.e. Rescuers Down Under, Hunchback of Notre Dame) with the traditional animated movies, but the 3D movies were pretty much out there most of the time.
I guess it's just me because I'm finding it hard to enjoy the newer Disney movies, especially if they're in 3D. There's something about Disney's 3D movies that just makes me not care about any of the characters.

Not if done correctly. When the Revolution first came out, I dreamed of a Star Wars light sabre cutting game. Where you'd go around cutting things. With a light sabre.
That's a step forward with motion controls.

I agree. As add-ons, relatively late in their respective consoles' lives, they won't have that much impact. Not to the degree of the Wiimote itself
Now, if they could get Natal and the Sphere respectively to be as successful as the Balance Board, or Motion Plus, it would still be a win for them, and establish their presence solidly in the motion field, but i don't think its to the point where it could really threaten the Wii itself

What it all comes down to is how a game company USES it's motion tech. You can have the best motion controller in the world, but it means nothing when you don't use it's full potential by creating some ground-breaking games for it. Only 2 worthwhile Wii games that came out this year, that's just ridiculous. I miss the days of Super Mario Galaxy. What a marvelous game that was. I mean, is it really hard for Nintendo to put out more titles like that when Sony and Microsoft are constantly doing this?
