Alan Wake will allegedly premiere in late May of next year on Xbox 360. MCV reports that "a source close to the game" gave the new release date and suggested that the title would be promoted "in the style of a Hollywood movie."
Officially, we know that Wake's drawn out development will conclude in "Spring 2010" -- around the 5-year mark. We've also previously been told that the game has been done since August and isin hibernation being polished over and over again. We've followed up with Remedy and Microsoft to see if either would like to confirm today's reported release date.

Wow I can't believe this game will have had 5 years of development. Hopefully when it comes out it'll be revolutionary. Either way if it sucks or not summers the perfect time to release a new IP.

I wouldn't build up expectations like that. The original Max Payne took a hell of a long time to develop, and while it remains one of my favorite PC games (more specifically, its sequel), it was hardly a revolutionary title.
Remedy spent a lot of time developing their technology (in-house engine, built for multicore). That, and they're a small team with big quality standards.
So the development time may not pay off in "revolutionary gameplay", but you can expect that it should at least have a lot of polish.

My guess is it will introduce some new gameplay ideas (like they did with bullet time in Max Payne) but grpahics / technology will be poor, simply because they started development so far back and you cant update the engine very late in the development cycle. It will probably play like a better version of Alone in the dark and the 360's answer or equivalent of Heavy Rain in some ways. Along with Mass Effect, the only two games I would really love to have on the PS3, hope this sells well and some of the people who lined up to buy ODST buy games like this as well.

Bluetev, they've done a fair bit of look at our physics engine tech demos as a hurricane literately rips a building apart board by board. The technology/engine looks really well done. I think part of the problem is they set the engine sights/goals too high and to perform well, they needed to wait for the technology to play catch-up a bit.

Nope. Anytime a game takes this long, it's a cause for concern. I was even a bit worried about Dragon Age.

me neither but i havent heard anything GOOD. The E3 demo was terribly underwhelming, "oh yeah we have this incredibly deep and psychologically story but uh, here some trees are gonna fall and your gonna kill ghost things with light" I'm so worried about this, but then again, like Bradwart said I was also expecting Dragon Age to be terrible, i thought it's extremely long development time had been a result of the EA buyout forcing them to start again from scratch to make it more EXTREME

There's probably a sense of "well, if it took this long, it'll be REALLY good!" in there somewhere.

Admittedly, I shouldn't have been worried about Dragon Age.
It's BioWare. They haven't let me down yet.
But Remedy isn't BioWare, and therefore can't be given the same blind expectance that the game will be good.

That's the same kind of thought I have when Nintendo keeps delaying Zelda games. It's Nintendo and it's a Zelda game. It can be delayed forever but when it finally comes out, you know that it's going to be good and you shouldn't have ever worried in the first place. Bioware knows what they're doing too and the gamers trust them. Remedy... not so much.
I really hope they can pull this one off.

Concerned? Yes. Still excited about the prospect of an exciting new IP which may end up being awesome? Yes also. Since Silent Hill went to a US studio and then down the shitter, this game is good reason for adventure/horror fans to get excited. It's one of the many reasons I got a 360.
Also, I do believe IGN gave it the console game of the show award for e3, or maybe it was action/adventure category. Either way it beat out Uncharted 2 which has gone on to be one of the best games of the year. Saying that, some other media sources were underwhelmed. Bottom line, I'm still pumped for it.

There's a new video walkthrough of it on gametrailers if you're interested. From all the gameplay I've seen of it so far I really don't have much interest in it.

And you're getting pissed off at them because of one game? That's kind of lame, man.

Five years is a lot of time for a new concept to get stale. I have not been impressed with any of the gameplay videos i have seen of the game, neither has the visuals held up to the rust of time. It looks inferior to many games when at one point, and i remember my reaction when i first layed eyes on the screenshots from the game: my jaw literally dropped, the graphics neared Crysis back then.
It's unfortunate that Remedy took this much time to complete the game. My only expectation from this game is to give me a good story experience because a good story never gets old. I am ready to overlook every gameplay drawback if the story is fleshed out and perfected for a can't-put-down experience of a book, as long as it is not annoying like that of Alone in the Dark.
I have fate in Remedy. I hope time has not taken it's toll.

Jesus also has faith in Remedy, and since I created them (along with everything else ever, except Haze, Free Radical can have that one) it's kind of like you are still under the same roof. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

F U Remedy. Where's that PC version? I remember watching the PC tech video a couple years back and drooled.
Hopefully this is a good game. Max Payne 1 and 2 were brilliant and I've been waiting for their next effort for a looooong time.

Of concern to me is not only the time spent in development, but the time it started development.
I find that these games that are disclosed when systems are in their infancy and take years of development end up looking like system release games. Their code is not as optimized as games that start dev'ing in a system's later cycles and thus all that graphical prowess is typically just in a few concentrated scenes, and is underwhelming at best.
Basically, something is going to come out NOW that looked amazing to us 5 YEARS ago.
Duke Nukem was constantly stuck in limbo partly because of this, as 3DRealms was constantly fighting to keep the graphics relevant to match the hype in an evolving graphical landscape.

My biggest concern about this game is that the action will be interrupted too frequently with cut scenes and "look at this, now look at that" moments. This was my beef with Gears of War 2. Every 5 minutes they were taking control away from you to aim your eyes at yet another dropship or some communication through your headset, blah blah blah.

This is what Sam Lake has been reduced to. He created Max Payne and those crooks at Rockstar basically weaseled the franchise from his hands. What the HELL did they even do aside from.... Remedy developed, 3D Realms produced, Rockstar basically printed the physical copies and now they own a franchise they had nothing to do with.
I know Max Payne 3 will be ass because the last few GTA titles have had stories thinner than paper. I wouldn't be surprised to see New York retconned into Liberty City. Hell, they already adapted the "Max Heat" fake TV ads into Manhunt.
And now Sam Lake can't even get his new game published properly.
