If they were special co-op challenge modes, I think that would be fun. Like Horde mode in Gears or Special Ops in MW2. I can't really see competitive multiplayer, though.

Smells to me like it'd be L4Dish, necros versus humans or something like that.

I was just about to moan about the trend of tacked on multiplayer modes on games made for single player experiences, then I saw that others had done it for me :D Save me time.

But its true, I wouldn't mind coop modes, but multiplayer for the sake of it makes no sense to me, I can see the fun of adding it to games like GTA, but it gets silly when Final fantasy has to have it, dead space has to have it, bioshock has to have it, your dog has to have it, you're school has to have it, the future has to have it, the past has to have it.....whats going on :/ Seems like a waste of valuable time and disk space to me.

I took a survey from EA about Dead Space and what I would like in a DS2. They asked about a million questions about what multiplayer options I would like, I said yes to co-op but no to everything else (it really sounded like they were going for some team deathmatch nonsense).

Now online Zero G basketball on the other hand, I could get behind.

I dont understand why people complain so much about multiplayer; there are different teams for each, single player and multiplayer, and if the multiplayer sucks, you're only gaining terrible multiplayer.

Well the general idea is instead of spending resources (money, time, manpower) on bad multiplayer no one will ever play, developers could be spending those same resources on perfecting the single player part of the game.

I saw this coming from a survey they gave me a while back. Asking whether an online multiplayer would increase the replay value and be more of a purchase point of the game. Modes I remember being in the survey were a Co-Op and a Versus.

Why? Survival horror should be one person only, and why do they keep throwing multiplayer in to games that don't need it? I rarely bother with MP at all.. Gears 2 Horde & Rock Band 2 I do occassionaly

I really doubt that Co-Op would work, In a game like Dead Space, having a partner would kinda ruin the mood (Too many opportunities to escape from certain death, one of the few mechanics which make horror games...horror).
But Versus, man, we're talkin' *now*. Dull lighting, scary mood of, "If someone gets teh jump on me, I'll probably die".
All in all, multiplayer could be kinda nice.

Depends on how they design your reliance on your partner. Co-Op in the Xbox version of DOOM 3 was brilliant in that regard, one guy holds the flashlight while the other fiddles with the weapons. Dead Space could work, but seeing as the game controls and mechanics are already purposefully limited to increase the sensation of fear, I couldn't think of a plausible way to cripple the players to force them to work together without adding to the design.

@Granger

Would it really be fun to just sit there and hold a flashlight for someone? Thank god the PC version had the duct-tape mod.

Depends on the intensity of the coop, if enemies were made more brutal, more eger to kill you and a lot more difficult to kill, there was suspence in every hallway you went down and even having 4 people at your side didnt stop you all from being savagely mauled to death, then yeah, it could be amazing, if it was just the same thing as campaign but a little harder, then no.

I wouldn't be surprised. In today's gaming community everything needs to have multiplayer to cater to a larger audience.

Even Super Mario has multiplayer now...

Okay, the first game was great and I'm just curious to what multiplayer would be like.

Since they're going this route, I'm hoping there's some 4player co-op added onto this. That would be fricken awesome!!

I couldn't give a crap about MP, but the fact that Dead Space 2 is in the works despite EA saying that they're going to back to their old philosophy of milking the cash cow makes me a happy Puchu. I just hope they don't bring Isaac back. I wouldn't care if they mentioned him in some form or another but leave him out of the picture as far as playability is concerned. I also hope that whatever EA decides they allow the character that you'll play as to speak. It sort of bugged me that Isaac never once said anything during the course of the game. Other than that, I am so totally stoked and can't wait to play it.

Of course, because no series can achieve greatness without deathmatch and team deathmatch

If it's anything like Resident Evil 5's online...do not want. Unless it's like Mercenaries Mode. Then do want.

If it's just Deathmatch, lame. I'd be all for a co-op or survival mode in Dead Space 2, though. And, yeah, playing as the aliens would be cool as well, similar to Versus mode in Left 4 Dead.

Or they could make it like Dead Space Extraction and just have you and you friends walk and talk to each other while nothing interesting happens for 10 minutes. >=[

I'd like to see something like CS:S zombie mod where someone starts out as a Necromorph against 4 other players, and every time the necro player kills a human, the human turns into a necro to help kill the other survivors.

I can't really imagine Dead Space with deathmatches and catch the necro-artefact.

I can however imagine a co-op mode similar to Horde, Firefight or Survival.

My initial gut reaction was "hell no" but what if it was similar to a L4D co-op and maybe versus would split players into aliens and humans.

I would love some GoW2 Horde-type modes or co-op modes like in Uncharted 2. Like one player has to fix an engine while the other two people defend them.
