I always enjoy exposing my younger cousins to questionable games that my aunt/uncle try to shield them from. Mind you, I'm 32 and my cousins are 8 to 12.

I'd have to say my fondest memories of gaming togetherness was playing Guantlet II on the NES (way back in the day). No, I take that back. Super Mario Kart on the SNES. Good times, good times.

Ah yes, I haven't gamed with the relatives since the NES/SNES/N64 years.

Nowadays, I just game alone & wonder why the world sucks so much.

One Christmas, all my grown cousins got their nintendo DS lites for the first time and we had a 4 was DS grudge match going on. My two eldest cousins have always had a bit of a rivalry going on, so while playing mario kart they left my younger sister and one of our other cousins in the dust, until just at the last stretch of track my sister decided to go for an all or nothing gamble and just take the hills head on instead of weaving her way through like my two older cousins. She hit a mushroom and proceeded to fly over the heads of my two now slack jawed cousins and across the finish line.

I school my dad in Mario Kart every christmas. He would play dirty tricks when I was younger like unplug my controller or start the race, lap me and pause the game saying he accidently started. One year I thought it would be funny to have him start backwards and say I "accidently" started. When he found out what was up, he chucked the controller at the TV and broke the old school 27 inch tv.

And he said I had a bad temper.

This past Christmas I got Gears of War 2, and was going through a pretty rough time. It had been the first time I'd picked up a controller in a while, and I took right to it as my own form of therapy. While I was playing through one of the first few levels, my dad came into my room--and this guy hasn't enjoyed or capably weilded a controller since he worked a summer to afford an Atari--and watched me chainsaw a Locust in half with the Lancer. I paused it and said, "What's up, pop?" There was a look of pure glee in his eyes, and from then on I knew it wasn't hopeless to try and get him to understand the dual axis set-up. So far he's graduated to the gamecube controller, and my little brother had him playing Little Big Planet the last time I was home. I can't wait to saw up some monsters with my dad.

tl;dr Nintendo killed my grandma. RIP Granny Lily

Guess that kinda worked like youtube does these days huh.

The only Christmas I can remember where lots of family members were playing was when we got both Virtua Fighter 2 and SEGA Rally as gifts. All my cousins were there, and we just kept playing VF2 all night, passing the controllers around (Huge tangled mess). And there was nothing better than some split screen SEGA Rally.

When the Wii first came out, I thought of all the cool possibilities the motion control could offer and I bought one. I played Wii Sports and Zelda for a few weeks, then quickly got bored of the console. I waited and waited and waited for a good game to come out and take advantage of the unique control scheme the Wii offered. Waited for something, anything, to justify my purchase.

The next Christmas I finally found that justification... you see, you bring the wii out when your relatives are over... Wii tennis will keep the kids busy for hours, then you don't have to share your xbox.

My dad and I always have a game competition and we play different games to see who is better, or who can out do the other. Last holiday, we played COD4, FIFA 08, Warhawk, and AC1.

I tied with my dad at COD4 (we kept on sniping each other at the same time). My dad kicked my butt at FIFA 08 and barely beat me on Warhawk. AC1 didn't have multiplayer, so we did a timed assassination. I got my target in 5 minutes and my dad gave up after 8 minutes.

Well, back in 1990, when I was four years old, we had all the family visiting. My cousin and I were huddled around my dad's Commodore Amiga 500 playing the game "Aaargh!" I watched him impatiently for a while then tried to steal the joystick, shouting "That's not how you eat the people!" I still haven't heard the end of that one.

Playing Xbox 360 with my brother, passing the controller back and forth as we attempted to play through saints row 2, wishing that there was a couch co-op option. It was frustrating because while we both owned the game, and had xbox live accounts, we never managed to play the game together except by passing the controller. The game was a lot of fun though, and I helped my brother get past some of the levels that he was stuck on.

Family is fun to play with.
